PTSD is just another way for the MENTAL HEALTH community to make money especially TAX PAYER money from VA! No one can test it or see it so call it a disease and charge to treat it. Shrinks are useless and family and church associates can help these people more anyway. There was probably a reason that 1 twin went to the Service and the other did not & it was most likely a mental issue or a personal issue.
Your total disrespect for those who have fought for this country is DISGUSTING! Why don't you join the military and "put your money where your mouth is"? I'd be willing to bet you couldn't handle half of what these men and women have had to deal with. Until you've been through what they have been through you don't know squat! Let me guess......TEA BAGGER? Here's a message from all those that are suffering...."BITE ME!"
Well, Chief, maybe shrinks are useless to you; but they have helped lots of other people! I know several of them who would likely say that psychology and psychiatry have helped save their lives. I do know some who tried psychology and found it useless. The latter tried to get the former to say that they REALLY were helped just by reading the Bible; but the former would have had to lie to say that. So some were helped just by reading the Bible and so forth, but others needed to go to therapy and to take medications as well. Are you their judges? Would you also tell a diabetic just to read the Bible and talk to church associates instead of going to his doctor b/c it was just a money-making scheme?
CHIEF I have been suffering from PTSD all my life and did not know until last year. I am 50 years old and have been through hell and back because of trauma I experienced as a child. For you to make such an ignorant remark is exactly that IGNORANCE. Because of ignorance I was misdiagnosed all of my life until last year when someone who was not ignorant recognized my problems immediately. So CHIEF you and others need to know it affects so many people out there from abuse it would make your head spin. Not just the soldiers. My heart goes out to them in a huge way because I can relate.
No, PTSD is a valid diagnosis for people that have had very stressful events in their lives, just because you don't belive in it doesn't mean it doesnt exist.
Well "Cheif" I suppose you think that all the military people that are comitting suicide just had a "personal issue". PTSD is a very valid diagnosis. Obviously you had a perfect life and have never been objected to anything traumatic or you wouldn't feel that way. Believe me the mental health community does not get rich off it. Why don't you have a little respect. Veterans have fought for our freedom. Sometimes they have seen horrific things, and have to kill in order to survive. I know that would change me.
ptsd sucks the life out of you . take a young kid of 17-19 ship him off to viet-nam or any war. don't expect to have that kid back as they were when they left or that fact forever. things you do and see kills you inside like a cancer out of control.no one can repair the menories of the war . i know iam one !
This study was peer-reviewed by experts in the field. No one is getting rich off of this disorder but it has destroyed many lives and families. Believe me PTSD is a REAL disorder and it is unfortunate that our brave soldiers have had to endure this disorder on top of the wars themselves!! God Bless America and all of the braves souls who have fought for our freedoms!
I have been suffering from PTSD for 20 years. I was in the First Gulf War and worked in a Field Hospital. It is a REAL thing. I have been in treatment for ten years, with medication and counseling. Although I have come a long way, I am far from cured. As a matter of fact it is something that will never be cured, only managed. Despite the many meds I take, I still have problems sleeping, still have nightmares, still have anxiety, it has really strained my relationship with my children, and the list goes on. I always thought I was a mentally strong individual. The traumas that I have seen, changed that. I am 56 years old and I would not wish this on my worst enemy.
Interesting study. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and the symptoms are intrusive into my daily life. Therapy and mild anti-anxiety meds (which I fought taking for four years after beginning therapy) have definitely helped to alleviate the symptoms.
For me, my PTSD definitely centers around the trauma of childhood seual abuse. In most areas of my life I do not feel the affects of PTSD that acutely, however, I am triggered quickly by memories of the abuse. There is a direct correlation between the abuse and the increase in PTSD symptoms.

Chief, Stick your head in a toilet and flush more than once.

It takes guts to keep working on it. KNow that there are people out here who appreciate you putting yourself on the line. Wishing you all the best.
