Mental illness has NOTHING to do with intelligence! When a person with bipolar disorder, major depression, or schizophrenia are on meds for life it is no different than a diabetic who needs insulin every day. They are maintenace drugs. I have OCD and Major depressive Disorder. I've been on meds for 15 years, and am almost done with my PhD. I also have 2 Masters degrees. The general public needs to understand mental illness and have some compassion. I work with homeless, mentally ill persons. the vast MAJORITY of them have mental illness, not drug addiction. Homelessness is NOT a choice for these people, they are not treated and not equiped to make sound decisions let alone work for a living. Reach out to these people, and thank God for your mental health!
