I am a breast cancer survivor..had double mastectomy's, chemo and radiation, within 1 1/2 years. I think this is just a fun way to get women involved and let the men wonder. It helps keep your mind off all the sickness even if it is just for 1 month (alittle laugh) sure does help.
Hang in there Dawn, I love your spirit!!! My grandmother had cancer and passed away las year. It took a toll on all of us!!! But she sure loved to laugh and she would have got a big laugh out of this.
I think it's on the low end of the conversation-starter spectrum as far as class, quality and overall comfort (read: not shock) value are concerned. I was afraid that all my friends had lost their minds and collective sense of decorum. But here I am talking about it; however, I've little to do with solving the problem. So, I'm in no way a barometer by which the success of this little campaign can be guaged.
I have a feeling that if breast cancer caused erectile disfunction, it would have been cured ages ago. And probably with something as revolutionary and painless as one tiny blue pill.
In my town someone came up with the great idea of a "Bowling For Boobs" fundraiser.
What a time my wife and her friends have and they raise alot of money as well!
One of their challenges is to come up with a team name. This year, my wife's team was called the Pointer Sisters.....as in pointy.......you get the picture.
Anyway, if it helps the cause I see no harm in any attempt to help you and anyone else who suffers. It certainly is a breath of fresh air for those surivors come to the event as well. Always smiling in all of the pictures that I have seen! Who knows, tomorrow it could be my wife, one of my sisters, or my sister in law in the situation that so many are in.
Nice to see the NFL show their support last weekend as well. I never thought I would see some of those monsters in pink!
Thanks, Dawn for posting your positive thoughts. I can only say that we that made posts/remarks about our purses, the last thing we ever thought or wanted was to offend someone that had survived/fought breast cancer. We are doing this in support, nothing more.
First I understand that cancer treatments in any form is a notch above what could only feel like torture. I can see how the carefree design of the campaign is handled seems like a a slap in the face. I also see the loss of cofidence one would have, which again is a kick when down.
But. I am a female who at the age of 15 was in a horrible car accident and suffered severe permanent damage to my the left side of my face. My mother died, and so did the drunk that hit us. They offered the best in plastic surgery the area had to offer. At 15 I opted out of all that and decided to keep the scars. I believed then and still do 23 years later that it was the right choice.
It may not be the exact thing as surviving the treatments and losing the breasts but in the end its the same result...permanently aultered visually.
I decided to use mine as a walking ad for my cause. Breast cancer, granted after some time, should be treated the same attitude. My (ad) is noticed by everyone and asked about by half of them.
If there is awareness in any form it should be accepted. Yes the answer has nothing to do with cancer, however ever woman that gives an answer did so because of the inbox they received about the "I like it" campaign.
I am a 6 1/2 year survivor from breast cancer. I had so many other problems that they could only do 6 weeks of radiation and no chemo. I think this way of passing the word to other women is great. It gets other women to think about breast cancer and maybe will get men to investigate to what they are talking about. My husband and my 33 year old son are well behind me and have been. It makes us more aware of donating for a cure for cancer. If you have never been through it don't critisize how the word gets out.
I agree with you, I lost an Aunt, 2 Cousins and 1 Cousin who is winning the battle. Most recently I lost my husband Dwight to undiagnosed Gastric Cancer in a little over 6 mos, leaving me with a then 2yr old and newborn, they are now 4 and 2. However the message is received, the Word is out. Don't we want AWARENESS? I believe the responses positive or negative verifies that they are Aware Now!
breast cancer sucks, but so does life in a world that thinks everyone is supposed to be better than others. Those of us who don't get a race are supposed to suck it up.
I have a feeling that if breast cancer caused erectile disfunction, it would have been cured ages ago. And probably with something as revolutionary and painless as one tiny blue pill.
" And that's just assinine.
The not so subtle implication is that breast cancer is allowed to fester because it simply isn't very important to men. Unfortunately for Nathan, while this seems to be a popular sentiment, it doesn't line up with reality at all. Breast cancer research receives far more money than prostate cancer research. Breast cancer receives far more publicity than prostate cancer. And while 49 states require insurance companies to cover the costs of breast cancer treatment, only 28 states require similar coverage for prostate cancer.
So Nathan, the next time you're letting nonsense spew forth poorly disguised as actual thoughts and attributing the awful scourge that is breast cancer to misogny, know that you're speaking only for yourself...
I agree that making cancer awareness top priority, but that company only donates 25% of the product cost to breast cancer fund which means they put over $2,000,000 in their pockets while giving $515,000 to breast cancer fund. If they were really into breast cancer it would be the other way around. $2,000,000 for breast cancer and $515,000 for their profits.
It spread like wildfire on my page as well. What an uproar, and I can't tell you how many times my girlfriends sent the message to my "in" box. I think it's a hoot! it can easily be misconstrued as something vulgar, but people are talking about it, and even if it's for a split second, people are becoming aware.
In the email I received concerning this "stunt" it mentioned nothing about "cancer" or cancer awareness. It just said to not tell the guys what the "answer" was all about.
I think someone WAY over thought this little Facebook Fun stunt.
I think the original (as far as I'm aware of) began on FB. Not sure where or when it began, but it kept us men guessing. Posts from my female friends were of the sort, "On the pool table", "On the couch", "On the bed", "On the bathroom counter", "On the clothes hamper"...... I must say, it interested us men until we found out it was about, "Where do you leave your bra at night?" We were suddenly thinking our wives and girlfriends were pretty freaky for a little bit and gearing up for some interesting times.....Turns out the joke was on us.
Then came the next one, "Leopard print", "Pink with bows", "Black and tied in the back", "Red with flowers". We figured that one out pretty quickly....once again the joke was on us. The wives and girlfriends weren't out to turn us on, just talking about the color of the bra they were wearing.
We're just dumb, dumb, stupid creatures.......Next thing you know, you're posting things like, "Under the bar", "On the kitchen counter", "Barstool", "Backseat", "On the desk after a night out". We get all <pant> <pant> <slobber> <drool> <ready>...... You just laugh at us and say, "No silly, I'm talking about my pocketbook." We think, ("Pocketbook.....is this a new word??..... Okay, I'm cool with that. I like pocketbook. You put important stuff in it...")
"No, silly." She says, "I'm just talking about where I put my pocketbook."
"Aaaahhh.....CRAP!!!", we say....... "She got me again." "Ahhhhhh....CRAP!!! They all got us again......"
In our own defense, all you had to say is "BOOBIES!!!"
I find the chainletters in my mail box and the status updates of "i like it...." to be annoying and just one more thing to junk up my inbox and news feeds. it does nothing to help breast cancer
Um yeah it does help awareness for breast cancer. It inspired an article that made it to the front page of MSN didn't it? And now all the curious people who didn't know what the status updates were about read this article and may learn a thing or two about breast cancer- including some great organizations that they can go to for information and maybe even a donation. Any little bit helps :) Just wait til you or someone you know gets breast cancer and you'll change your attitude.
My aunt died from breast cancer, Saraxx, and I think this "I like it" crap is the worst campaign I've seen. My aunt wouldn't want the horrible fight she went through to be lightheartenly joked about through sexual comments. Breast cancer isn't cute.
I hear ya, Allison! My mother also died of breast cancer and just today I went in for my annual mammogram. I cannot see how telling people where I put my purse in a provacative way would have saved my mother or will keep me or anyone else cancer free. What I should do instead is update my status to say I got my mammogram and remind my female frieds to so the same. But I hardly ever use Facebook anymore and I value my privacy. Besides more people might read this than on Facebook, so, ladies, go to it (you, too, Allison, especially since you have a family history). Mammograms aren't fun and they're not sexy (unless you're into weird stuff) but neither is breast cancer and it's worth a few minutes of discomfort for your health and peace of mind! :)
l think both previous posts are missing the point. l saw the 'l like it...' post on my daugher's facebook...was curious what it was about, called and talked to her, found out what it's about. This is NOT making light of or exploiting breast cancer sexually. THIS IS A GREAT & FUN WAY to open the doors to our children so the subject can be discussed. l'm a breast cancer surviver!! And proud to say..."l like it Anywhere l can lay it!!"
Personally, all "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" does for me is highlight the fact that no other cancer gets anywhere near the attention of Breast Cancer. I've stopped donating to Breast cancer, they have a stranglehold on the cancer fundraising. I now give my money soley to other cancers - of late ive given to Colon, Prostate, and pancreatic.
And while i feel for people with breast cancer (my Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt are all survivors) it does bother me that only breast cancer gets the attention and hype and it really does seem like there are no other cancer's out there. So like i said, with all the attention breast cancer gets, they dont need my money as much as the other less-posh cancers.
I am fighting breast cancer as I'm writing this...I am constantly harping on my girlfriends and nieces to get thier mamo's and do self exams. Honestly, if this FUN "where do you like it" campaign reachs even one of them, then I think it's worth it...since they're probably tired of hearing my speach...and to be completely honest, laughter and humor has gotten me through this with my sanity intact!!! Go girls, get the world talking about breast cancer, and get this conversation out of the closet and into the main stream!!!!!!!
Paradoxically, if breast cancer were cured, all those people down at Susan G. Komen for the Cure would suddenly find themselves out of their very well-paying jobs.
Polio was cured because it was profitable to find a cure for it. Seems that things like breast cancer and HIV/AIDS are far more profitable as hellish deadly diseases, which may be the reason why no cure has yet been found. What would AIDS and cancer researchers do for a living without all the donations and federal grants flying in the door?
facebook is the biggest social networking site in the world right now and they're trying to do a good thing for breast cancer AWARENESS. what does aunts, moms, sisters, second cousins twice removed that got breast cancer have to do with what facebook is trying to do?
women care more about breast cancer than men do, one of your male friends sees your "i like it..." status and looks into it more. you just may have educated a man on the fact that its national breast cancer month (if the nfl didnt do it yet) and gave him a few websites to learn more or to even donate. the nfl doesnt put any websites on blast during halftime of every game. but the players wear pink stuff and i havent heard one person call out the nfl for bringing awareness. why is that, allison?
Agreed. No one is saying breast cancer is funny...just a way to remind people that it is there. Check out brahaha.org. Another way our area has gotten people to talk about a serious subject! The more you think about it the better you are at keeping up with exams :)
someone posted a comment that its been going around for months. It has, and its not just now started. and to Saraxx......someone very dear to me was diagnosed last week with breast cancer. she's 32 and a mother of 2 young children. Im supporting breast cancer in every way with the pink ribbons and joining talks about it. But i just dont see how this particular one has anything to do with it. "where do you like your purse?" !?!? i mean, really!? YOUR PURSE?! i understood the Bra one last year, but a purse!?
and yes, im just mad cause i didnt think of it! ::rollseyes:: how immature to be jealous of something like that!! i have more important things in my life than to make up a silly game to travel through FaceBook!!
There will always be more nasty deadly diseases to be researched and cured....as a survivor of breast cancer although Im aware not all the money always goes towards the finding a cure...and the big drug companies do profit nicely.....never the less the treatment for my breast cancer seemed barbaric and its miserable beyond discription and I thank anyone who can actually make it easier on those patients battle the disease.
Look at the sponsors of the Komen foundation! Do you think eating meat & dairy will cure cancer? They are the cause of the cancer in the first place. These companies are killing our loved ones with their foods. If you truly want to save lives stop the BS and give these foods up.

My mom and aunt are both breast cancer survivors. I also lost two other aunts to another form of cancer, and just last year in November my father passed away to a different form of cancer. One important thing I learned from these special people in my life who were affected by some form of cancer is....LIFE IS SHORT. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN....People who are getting upset about this FB campaign are overreacting. I'm sorry but its true. Relax. Laugh a little. Life is not meant to be taken so seriously all the time. My mom and aunt don't have FB, but I know that if they did they would have joined in on this campaign and they would be laughing about it. My other two aunts and my father would be doing the same also. My aunts and my father were cracking jokes and making not only themselves laugh but others laugh as well the whole time they were sick. They knew that they were dying. And instead of being so serious and sad about it the whole time, they enjoyed the time they had left here with their friends and family. If you can take a serious situation like cancer, and find some fun way to bring more awareness to it, then do it!! Have some fun!! And if you actually read this article, you would know that this FB campaign has brought attention to Breast Cancer Awareness. It says in the article that during last years FB campaign, the Susan G. Komen site had a high volume of viewers. So this is actually helping. I supported the campaign when my friends sent me the message on FB. And in May I will be doing the Komen for the Cure 3 Day Walk with my aunt who is a survivor. After the 3 Day Walk is complete they have a big celebration. And all of us who participated are going to have FUN during those 3 days. I'm sorry for everyone else who has been affected by this horrible disease. But you really need to lighten up a bit. Because all we have is today. Tomorrow is never definite.
I'm a breast cancer patient. I have a sense of humor but I don't think the I like it thing or the color thing was funny or helpful in the long run. I think that everyone is well aware of the disease and that there are also many other diseases including other cancers to be aware of. One of the healthiest things I have done for myself is to identify with wellness, with celebrating life and not identifying w/ the disease via FB or pink stuff .I love october . I wish it was "go out and get fresh autum air awareness month"
ok yeah we will just all stop eating and that will help everything. Give me a break.
It took a live human being who loved her sister dearly do make the Susan G Komen foundation what it is today and she started with $200 and some friends and family! If the other poster thinks that other cancers are more important by all means donate to them, but don't claim its because this organization is sooo big and full fo money. Maybe those other cnacers just need someone to stand up and start giving to them like Ms. Brinker did!!
It raises awareness, and is cheeky but not lewd. I don't see what's wrong with it. The first poster has gone through breast cancer and she finds it a positive campaign.
peoples republic of seattle- awareness is great but it is not enough. I take issue with you about saying a scientist would pour a cure down a drain so that they would be able to sell treatments. There are alot of truly hard working scientist who got in to research of cancer because they themselves lost love ones to cancer. You have to understand the complecity of a cell that has bypassed it's self destruct coding. Add to this the millions of protein folding patterns.
You and everybody on this thread can help actually speed up research on curesfor all types of cancer. The world community grid helped the Chiba institute in Japan to complete over 100 years of research in just 2 years. They went from very little data to having compounds ready for evaluation in just 2 years---this is staggering what we can do as a collective, not only that but by doing volunteer computing we free up the much needed funds for the actual lab work, staff and equipment that would other wise have to be spent on very expensive super computer run time.
Here are the links, please join us and pass it on. Tell others. YOU can make a diffrence.
You can go to the research tab and find the Chiba website that will verify the 2 year time table. Though the pictures the children drew who later succumbed to Cancer still makes me cry, and I'm a 265 lbs 6 foot 2" hard ass.
I find the I Like campaing to be SO annoying. Who cares where you put your purse, what the frak does that have to do with breast cancer? Asnine stupid status updates.
This this the stupidest publicity stunt ever. It does absolutely nothing to promote breast cancer awareness; a simple status update saying "October is breast cancer awareness month" would be a hundred times more effective then this nonsense.
I have had 3 different people ask me what I was talking about, so I explained it to them. So yes it is promoting and making them aware of the need to find a cure for Breast cancer. Just you reading this article is proof in point, you wanted to know what was going on ... right? Well now you do. October is Breast Cancer Awarness month. Go to The Breast Cancer site and click daily, you may save the life of someone you know ... like your mother, wife, sister, girlfriend, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and so on and so on, even guys for that matter NICK.
Whatever, it is something fun to do rather then do the same thing every year when its breast cancer awareness month. Putting "its breast cancer awareness month" isn't going to grab the attention of so many people like this does. Society is today is driven by sex and if this is how they want to get the attention of the general public. I say go for it.
Well Nick, you may find this idea silly and a waste of time but it DID get YOU interested enough to not only find out what is was standing for but also got you to read the article and even take the time to post. So YES, it does work
Like it or not the repression of human sexuality by our nation creates a certain taboo about something that is so natural and so beautiful. The resulting taboo further creates curiosity which is then used to generate more of an interest at first glance. It's not a difficult concept. This method is obviously working since its generating so much controversy as if it were anything less it would've been long since forgotten.
Your simple, yet direct, suggestion lacks the creativity and originality that is needed in today's society to capture the attention of the people that take the time out of their day to read the news or blogs or any other form of media that helps spread such awareness. "October is breast cancer awareness month" is plain and over used. These controversial ads are getting more people to read about an important subject that would've been otherwise ignored due to it's extensive existence. Everyone knows breast cancer is a problem but it doesn't affect everyone so why should everyone pay attention? These campaigns are grabbing which is what the cancer society needs.
Well, would you think that honestly more people would step up and spread the word faster if it was merely a boring statement such as "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month"? That's no fun! D: The obscure meme is a lot more fun and it makes people even more curious that they bother to look it up, and lo and behold your research directs you to Breast Cancer Awareness sites.
Something obscure like this catches people's attention a lot better than some obvious generic statement. I bet you were probably one of the people that though it was dirty and was disappointed it turned out to be for Breast Cancer Awareness :P
While its not the greatest stunt ever its dumb to say that this doesn't promote Breast Cancer Awareness. You have to realize that EVERYONE is attracted to something in a different way. I'm not the biggest fan of "Save the Ta-Ta's" but you know what? It gets people talking and it gets people buying products that benefit cancer research.
Just putting "October is breast cancer awareness month" is boring to most people. Most people would skim over it and never think about it again. When our brains become saturated with seeing the smae stuff over and over, you have to mix it up to create a buzz. and every comment left on this is proving that it's doing its job.
@ Nick 248.. Maybe it's stupid to you, but you don't speak for the majority. Why are there always some people that are so uptight about things? Who cares how it gets out, as long as it gets out!
Why is everyone all over Nick just b/c he said it was stupid? He's right-it IS stupid and suggestive and muddies the waters about the issue. I guess when it comes to certain topics, dissent is NOT tolerated. Oh yeah, and before you admonish me to "get involved" and "imagine it was someone you loved," let me say I've lost 3 cousins to breast cancer, another 2 are survivors, and 2 aunts to BC. Not to mention my father (lung cancer) and an uncle (prostate) and have another uncle who is a prostate cancer survivor. I AM involved -I give to ACS and Relay for Life. "Save the Ta-Tas?" How about if I refer to my testicles as a slang term-would that help the cause?
I love how everybody says "It does nothing to promote breast cancer awareness" but it got aaaaaall of you to click on a news link, and talk about it! And it CERTAINLY in NO WAY makes FUN of breast cancer!!! It spreads the awareness in a fun way. The article even says, last year, foundation web sites saw a spike in visitors. It may not find a cure, but I'm fairly sure that wasn't the point. So, everybody, relaaaax, and go get your mammogram!! <3
Bamcubz, things like this make something as serious and life-threatening as breast cancer and reduce them to trivial, everyday things. You should see the comments that are posted after someone posts "I like it on the..." It devalues, and demoralizes the entire cancer fight. I'm sure breast cancer foundations are enjoying the attention now that MSN (and other news outlets) picked up the story. Had it not been picked up by a news organization you would just have a Facebook feed where all the girls seemed horny.
If you look at the comments not only in this feed but in other blogs, websites, and what not, you will see that most people who've survived some form of cancer find things like this demeaning and insulting.
BCSurvivor, your vote may count for more, and I'm sure cancer has given you a very unique perspective on life and how to live it. But the fact you (and breast cancer awareness groups) are reducing your struggle to a joke is sad. Especially when we are laughing at struggle that many don't make it through alive.
But I actually do leave it in the car since the car is in the garage and we have the garage door. If I'm going out the next day and I don't need it, why would I take it out of my car?
In my neighborhood (Car+Purse)+ Garage=SAFE
So mine's is a legit response to where do you put your purse.
Putting Breast Cancer Awareness in the subject stirs the reader and maybe some interest in what breast cancer is all about. As a survivor, early detection was key and so many women don't even know how to examine their breast. Hopefully it will promote awareness and sexiness!
I have a great sense of humor, and I can enjoy silly off color humor....BUT I also was diagonosed with breast cancer last November, and I have had four chemo treatments, two surgeries and 33 radiation treatments. I take offense at the Save the Ta Ta's ads and at sexy humor directed toward breast cancer awareness. I had a lumpectomy and of course have a left breast now that is no longer whole, and its not funny. It hurts to know that a portion of one of the parts of my body that signify femininity is now somewhat unpleasant to the eye. The Save the Ta Ta's campaign makes me think...a portion of mine couldnt be saved so Im less of a woman. Dont get me wrong, I m contintue to enjoy my life and live it large, but I dont find the humor in breast cancer...or any cancer or illness for that matter.
I am not less of a woman because I had to have a radical (total) mastectomy. If anything it showed me how to become more sexy and womanly. I am for anything that gets people talking about breast cancer and takes away the embarrasement everyone feels. I am no less a woman than a man would be if he lost one of his body parts! My breasts do not define who I am!
I couldn't agree more. I don't think that people who have not had this horrible experience can identify with the gravity of it. It's not a sexy joke. It shakes you to your core. Good luck, Diana, I'm with you! There are better ways to promote a life threatening illness.
Sorry you had to go through that. My Mother had to have both breasts removed due to cancer. She actually loves the save the ta-ta's shirts and is also glad that talking about "boobies" is no longer "a bad thing to talk about" I like to quote her words on this subject.
everyone is entitled to their opinion, glad your mom can joke about it. However, to just see people randomly posting 'I like it on the floor' and then somehow figuring out it's related to cancer awareness is really pushing it.. Again, please do something meaningful, but be sensitive about it.
I understand your pain, Diane, because I also have the scar from my lumpectomy. I also have a sixteen year old daughter whose girlfriends are more aware of this disease because of the save the ta-tas campaign. The campaign brings the discussion into areas where it would never have been before. Because they see the bumper stickers, etc., they are more willing to discuss the disease and it's prevention, and hopefully will understand that you are never to young to take control of your health
I'm not crazy about the save the "ta tas" and "second base" campaigns because I think they objectify women as if the purpose of a woman's breasts are mainly for the enjoyment of men. I don't consider myself a strong feminist either, but on the other hand, like shannons angel says, these campaigns have also helped bring the subject out of the shadows which is a good thing. If other people want to wear the t-shirts and put the bumper stickers on their cars, that's their business. But I have a 10-year-old son and I want to emphasize to him that the appropriate term is "breasts."
I'm sorry you had to go through that...but because you caught it early...you not only saved your "Ta-Ta" but your life. Anything that gets women talking about their health and taking care of themselves is good thing. My grandmother had a double mastectomy and this has always been such a tabu subject and now with these things, no matter how dumb do bring attention to the fight against breat cancer. I wish you only a happy, healthy, long life...a little piece of missing breast DOES NOT make you any less of a woman...it makes you a SURVIVOR!!!
I'm so sorry that you feel yourself less of a woman due to a lumpectomy. I'm horrified that breasts would be the sum of a woman or even part of a sum. I'm for ANYTHING that gets folks paying attention to preventative maintenance or the fact that foundations need money to support themselves.
I will hope for you that are able to place this notion behind you that you are less than due to a procedure that could have saved your life. We are much more than a breast.
I don't think any of us think of breast cancer or any cancer as a joke. But having some fun while promoting awareness is not a bad thing. Sorry for what you have gone through. I know others that have gone through the same or worse and attend pink cocktail parties and wear save the ta ta's shirts to help raise money and promote awareness. No one is making fun of the situation, just trying to maybe have a little fun while promoting awareness and raising money for the cause.
I am deeply disturbed that women are valuing their breasts as the main proponant of their femininity and sexuality. My cousin is a breast cancer survivor who had a radical mastectomy and my sister is also a survivor who had a partial mastectomy and neither of them feel any less feminine or sexy even without reconstructive surgery in my cousins case. We were raised to believe our attitudes towards life and our minds are what make us sexy, not our bodies or attributes, or lack thereof. Their respective husbands agree. I had a benign tumor removed a few months ago and I would like to believe that had it been malignant and I needed more invasive treatment, I would hold the same positive outlook of these other incredible women in my family. I am not belittling anyones health issues but really aren't we perpetuating the idea that only women with perfect breasts is sexy. For the record, we all enjoy the frivolity of the Save The Ta-tas because it is a way to bring awareness in a non-scary, clinical way... but that's just my opinion.
Couldn't agree more, Kitty. My "ta ta's" do not define who I am or have anything to do with my femininity or sexuality! I'm a sexy woman and I don't need my breasts for that! If I have to have surgery to save my life, so be it! I'll be just as strong as my mother and grandmother!
Boobies, testicles, breasts, penis -- they are all the same thing. They are body parts and those words depict the meaning regardless of your stature in society, or your level of education. They certainly do not depict a demeaning tone, connotation or any less of respect.
I have an 11 year old son who proudly wears a "boobies" bracelet HE bought at the skateboard shop to promote awareness for breast cancer. We have several family members who have died from cancer, one who suffers significantly from leukemia and my co-worker who has had a mastectomy.
I am very proud to be the son who touts a boobie bracelet on his right hand and spreads the word about this horrible disease that hopefully some day will have a cure and stop subjecting wonderful people to such pain and sadness.
@ KittyBoo you are absolutely right that breasts do not define the woman or her sexuality. I am a cancer SURVIVOR and I opted for the double radical mastectomy and no reconstruction. I welcome anything that leads to furthering awareness of this cancer because it so often doesn't get caught until too late. Women don't want to talk about it or about suspected problems until its too late. Take care of your chest Ladies and Gentlemen, Breast Cancer is not a joke but laughter is better than hiding it in the shadows.
As for the idea that Breast Cancer gets all the funding any research that comes up with a cure can help cure more than one kind of cancer. Ovarian and Pancreatic cancers are both linked to Breast Cancer. My heart goes out to the cancer patients and their families especially since Breast Cancer has such definite genetic links.
I'm really sorry you find it so offensive. But, I think all of the organizations have the same good intentions. Save the Ta-Tas and I love Boobies is just another way of grabbing the attention of a different demographic. I do truly honor you and your strength. Stay healthy <3
So glad that all of you were saved...pity your sense of humor died!
Darned near everyone on my facebook page, has either asked or commented about my 'purse' post. Do you want results with raising awareness? Or are you so boxed in with your puritanical response that you would rather make another serious commercial, for everyone to ignore, so you don't 'offend' anyone.
I am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed October 2008 and finished my last treatment November 2009. I am truly sorry that there are women who feel that their TATA's define them as a WOMAN!!. I had a lumpectomy on my left breast and 17 lymph nodes removed. I also underwent 6 chemo treatments and 27 days of radiation treatments. My TATAS used to be the size of grapefruits...Now I joke that I have a Grapefruit and an Orange. My smaller left breast does not make me feel any less of a woman then if I had both removed. WIll I have an implant done....OH HELL NO. I am PROUD that I had the CHOICE to SAVE THE TATAS. I am proud that I survived...I am proud that I was able to see my youngest daughter graduate high school in 2009. I am proud that I am going to be able to dance at my daughter's wedding in 2011. And yes there are some foods out there that are BAD for you but DO NOT CAUSE CANCER. Every single person on this Earth has some form of cancer cells in their body. These cells decide if they want to effect you or you or you. If all the foods that were listed on an earlier post were the cause of cancer, then don't you think that EVERYONE WOULD HAVE some form of cancer? I have a PINK RIBBON on my car and I also have SAVE THE TA TAS on my car. You can not imagine the number of honks with thumbs up I get EVERY DAY on the freeways of Southern California.
To those of you that have lost a mother, sister, loved one to ANY CANCER I do understand the pain you must have gone through. My grandfather died of bone and prostrate cancer when I was in junior high. Don't be upset because there are people and companyes out there trying to promote awareness to Breast Cancer. Yes, of course there are other cancers, I personally have not seen a campagn for any of the other types of cancer as I have for Breast Cancer.
To those of you that are undergoing treatment or have family/friends undergoing treatment, be there for them when they need someone to hold them, to talk to. I have 4 great children that were there for me every step of the way. One of them lives back East. She called me almost daily to see how I was doing. It is hard to talk to friends with cancer. I know this to be true. It's hard because you don't know what ot say. You don't have to SAY anything, just being there for them when they need someone SAYS IT ALL! GOOD LUCK...<3<3<3
Diana, my husband had a mastectomy several years ago, I've NEVER liked the "save the ta-tas" campaign. I cringe for HIM whenever that one is mentioned.
I find it funny how this has changed. when i first recieved the messages for this new game it specifically said it was NOT for breast cancer awearness, but just to mess with guys and see if it could get on the news again. Not sure if that was the original message or if someone changed it along the way.... Apparently whatever the case, it worked and has made national news again.
yeah thats how I received the message too was just to mess with the guys, nothing towards breast cancer awareness. It did mention the one that went around last year with the bra color for breast cancer awareness but said just to mess with guys.
SO, I am a 34 year old woman with 5 kids, the youngest just turned 2. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. My cancer is HER2NU positive, which means it is very agressive. My tumor went from 2.2 cm to 8.6 cm in less than 3 weeks. My oncologist said that had I not found it myself, I was literally weeks away from it spreading to lungs and bones, therefore deeming it untreatable. ANYWAYS, anything that brings awareness to breast cancer, whether it be calling them ta-tas or boobies or stating where you put your purse, still does what it is intended...bring awareness. You all complain its stupid and has nothing to do with b.c. but, here it is, on the front page of MSN, talking about breast cancer, again promoting awareness. If this whole thing saves one life, then who are we to complain about it. If you don't like it, don't play the game. Otherwise, let people spread awareness however then see fit. Maybe it was a save the ta-tas shirt that made me find my tumor that night, just maybe that is what saved my life. So, complain all you want, its selfish. And the one of you that posted they dont like to have to explain it to their children when they see the ta-tas or boobies slogan, grow up. Are they going to be 16 and see a baby and you don't want to explain how to avoid that happening either? Ta-tas and boobies is not offensive, it provides light to a hard sitution. I know, I'm living it. And Allison, your Aunt would have loved the current campaigns!
So, that is my take. Don't like the facebook game, don't play!
It's been going around for months and the 'main' letter said "lets get the minds of your friends wondering......"
then the beginning of this month, which we all know is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the wording of the letter change to try to make it about breast cancer
I love it! evidently we did something good! I had no idea it was for Breast cancer tho but I REALLY like it on the kitchen counter so when I come down stairs it easier for me to NOT forget it YAYYYY LADIES
I do NOT like it. As a survivor of lung cancer, and having a relative facing a very grave stage of the same disease, it find it trivializing and not funny. If people really want to do something to increase awareness of cancer, please get involved in things that will change legislation so that people can get the care they need instead of having pharmaceutical and insurance companies control their health!
Judy-1998169 - First I would like to congratulate you. Second I would like to say that I agree with your comments about the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Sick people that can afford the financial burden the least are targeted for financial ruin and death by the pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Only those of us that have been through it and had to use their insurance know the truth about what's going on. Most everyone is one illness and/or surgery away from being put on the street by the costs. I have lived a nightmare trying to care for my husband that was born with a lung disease, and trying to pay for healthcare costs..................UGH
hey whatever works lets do it. it's fun and not hurting anyone and maybe someone who normally wouldn't get a mamo will. it's up to us to keep the awareness going. if it saves just one woman it's worth it. now go get those boobies checked.
I totally agree. Sex sells everything nowdays. It's unfortunate that people think they are being so clever trying to raise awareness this way. The boys at our local high school are wearing the "I love boobies" bracelets and I'm sure they are not thinking "wow I am supporting breast cancer awareness!" Most of the girls are offended and don't know why the bracelets are being worn and they boys are not explaining the real purpose behind them. For the boys it's an attention getter and sensationalism. The bracelets are not serving the purpose that was intended. I know this because our school has called the parents and reported that the bracelets should stop being worn because they are offensive. At least they made a few bucks off a few high school boys!... Sad.
We need to raise awareness for the people affected by the disease, the person is who we really care about, they are who we are trying to save, not just their "boobies". The world in general is so concerned about whether women have breasts and the size of them that it is devastating to womens self esteem, cancer or no cancer. It's the person that's important not just their breasts.
Posted my reply a couple of days ago. My friends know that I participate in the Mall to Mall ~ Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and some of them even support me with donations. Having had to be tested 3 years in a row, its nice to know that I can get mammograms and ultra sounds done as needed. I want it be that way for all women, so I click daily at The Breast Cancer site. You never know if you could be saving the life of someone you know ~ your mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, wife, girlfriend and even guys. Its time to find a cure for Breast Cancer so please help to support their research.
When I was approached with the "I like it" game it was not represented to me as a cancer awareness tactic at all. It was just forwarded to me from a friend saying that we should do this to keep everyone guessing what we are really talking about. Unfortunately I do not keep up much on current event, so I never knew about the bra color game either. Either way due to the society that we live in I think these tactics are extremely effective. It's obvious by now that sex sells no matter what you're selling it for, or how insensitive it comes across. With an increased focus on vanity and a decreased notion of awareness why wouldn't it? I would say it has become fair game that we can use sex to get people to a place where we can educate them, is this wrong? That is a moral question and morals have taken a very different form from thirty years ago. I think every chance we can take to raise awareness and promote education is a step toward social improvement. Morals or not isn't the whole point to protect our society from a very prevalent disease by raising awareness, and promoting scientific research in hopes for a cure? Heck, than I like it everywhere.
Go for a walk ... sure the Mall to Mall Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is on Saturday October 30th in Pensacola, FL. Registration at 7 am and the walk begins at 8 am leaving from University Mall going to Cordova Mall. Put your feet where your mouth is and we'll SEE YOU THERE.
Four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. 'There is fecal contamination on the handbags. This is copied from a site that did testing on the handbags that women take everywhere.
So I would think twice about where you set your purse when you get home.
Maybe you should send that out to make people aware that when you set your purse on the floor in a public bathroom, you walk out with a lot more than your purse.
DH- I love your point! That is so true and let's be honest, this whole "I like it on" thing is all relative. It's geared toward the younger crowd and it's getting them talking which seems to have served it's purpose.
I know I'll think twice about where I place my purse from now on:)
it annoys to no end to see women put purses on kitchen counters and on bathroom floors! Or when people sit partial "indian style" on chairs. Your shoe is disgusting. Just spreading bacteria! Thank you for your comment.
It's stupid and offensive to some. My aunt who died from breast cancer, leaving behind her 4 and 6 year old daughters, would not like for the misery she went through to be referred to as cute or flirty. Breast cancer is NOT cute! Sexual innuendos and comments don't raise breast cancer awareness; real-life personal stories do. Where you put your purse when you come home has nothing to do with breast cancer awareness. Many of my friends and I didn't feel comfortable even reading those comments, let alone actually participating in it, especially when some of those sexual status posts are coming from 14 year old girls. How about every girl who knows someone who's had breast cancer or died from it put, "My mother," "My sister," "My daughter"? That would get alot more participation, prompt alot more relevant questions, and have a personal impact.
Thats the most logical idea I have read yet.... I am a cancer survior as well and have no desire to participate in the provacative sexual comments... I also don't feel comfortable even reading them...It's crude and isn't there enough crudness in the world already.... Have we stooped that low, where this is the only way we can get someones attention... and to encourage our young sons and daughters to engage in sexual humor? where do you draw the line?
I don't think anyone meant to offend anyone over it.. and it did exactly what it was supposed to do - get people involved and raise awareness. I do understand you don't like the way it was positioned but instead of complaining about it... start a new trend. You have a good idea... and challenge yourself to see if it sticks.
Sure but teen girls dont respond to that. They respond to the cute and fun. I happily posted this hoping it would get news coverage...which was the real goal all along may I add. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and I am a teenage girl and I can't tell you how many of my friends saw this read the message which explains what This was all about and posted. Enjoying something alittle fun and becoming alittle more aware at the same time. I'm sorry if it upsets you but you to understand it from the point of veiw of someone whois trying to reach the younger generation. And do you have any idea how many of my friends imed eachother after this hit msn and spread the word that this had made news. I think our goal was accomplished even if you think it was silly and stupid. Girls my age are alittle more aware today then they were yestarday because of this silly little campaign. And my mother is proud of that.
Im sorry Allison, Breast Cancer is never a joke and each person who replied were replying from a email sent to them requesting them to react for raising BREAST cancer awareness. Trust me my mother had breast cancer and my father died of cancer, so if we can teach a child to respond in a manner that is easy for them it takes the stress out of it, some have probably lost someone they love to cancer and that they NEVER forget. This is not a joke or is it poking fun of anything only people with a closed mind would react like you are. Why don't you take a poll of people with cancer, they prefer being able to laugh and be lighthearted about there situation. GROW UP ALLISON!!!!!!!
Well put Slater, I don't know anyone who has personally died from breast cancer or what it does to you and it is campaigns like this that make me look into other sources and learn more about breast cancer which may save me in the long-haul! Allison, stop getting so mad about what people are updating their facebook status, the fact that your Aunt passed away from breast cancer is very unfortunate, but these little facebook status updates do help raise awareness! And might save more woman in the future!!
And your response would be "I like it flying high" I commend you and your response.
For those who object to the "I like it...Poll my father who layed beside my grandfather as he died from cancer; or better yet, why don't you poll my co-worker who watched her mother-in-law go through such pain the last two weeks of her life that made it so unbearable that death was truly a blessing. Laughter is the best medicine and anything to raise awareness is a great marketing event.
If you "don't like it" then go out and buy a pin and wear the pin with pride. No one is making you respond on facebook, but for those of us who want to, what's it to you? God Bless America and I say that while holding my right hand over my left breast which is unscathed. Some women can't say that and my heart pours out to them.
The only reason this was done the way it was, is because it catches peoples attention. THAT is how it raises awareness because people ask about it and you can mention it. There is different ways of promoting breast cancer awareness and some cater to others more than some. You can't reach everyone with just one pitch and this is a way to get out there diversely. No one means to offend anyone, but if it saves one more person because they read it, and mentioned it, and learned they had a history of it in their family, and decide to get checked out which could save their lives. Isn't one life better than none?
No, but would your aunt have liked her daughters, sons, and all of your relatives to have strong bonds, well after her passing?
This article is not very good at explaining all of the real reasons that people post things like this. It isn't about where you drop your purse, what color your bra is or what color underwear you are wearing. It is giving women, and some men, a little inside joke to create a bond in a time of need. Many women, including myself, have experienced loss to cancer, to car accidents, to crimes. And for many of us, in ways you wouldn't imagine. It would break you to hear my family's story, because there are some that were unnatural deaths that were so tormenting it would have half of the world in an uproar.
And you know what my family did in our time of loss? We joked with each other, we celebrated our family members' passing, because there was nothing we could do. And it keeps us strong still today. I am not giving up my history, it is who I am; I am not letting it defeat me. I AM STRONG, WE TOGETHER ARE STRONG. Ask people in the military about bonds. There are numerous bonds we share, because we are together in times of need. There is a reason we are called "Brothers and Sisters" in Arms.
By creating this bond, we open ourselves for conversation and for emotion. I talk to a lot of friends and families that through cancer; some who won the fight, many who didn't. Everyone remembers Farrah Fawcett right? She laughed in the face of cancer, even though she didn't win. This should inspire all of us to bond with other women and men. For those of you who haven't seen her video-biography, go rent it, go watch it with friends. Someday many of us will face the same problems, and will be faced with the decision to either be miserable through our trials, or forgiving and full of LIFE and JOY. I participate in cancer awareness, I wear the ribbon for others before me. Isn't it time that people open their minds to everything around them? We are extending our hands and offering our prayers, and many people that reacted to the post were reacting because THEY CARE. Delete the post if you don't want to be surrounded with outstretched arms and people like you, but don't bash on us that care, because we have given so much to everyone, and we have made our difference.
First off I am terribly sorry about your aunt and her daughters. But i am sixteen and some people my age if they have not had anyone close to them or themselves get breast cancer some of them just don't care and I know thats bad but thats how it is. So putting "I like it on the kitchen table" some of them may ask about, and also your idea is good too, why not just do both of the sayings.
I am sorry for saying but its to help Breast cancer. Why should you care if it is sexy or cute, you should be happy that people are supporting it some of them do not even have to. Whatever sells more stuff should be the way to go. If you do not like it that much why not open a company yourself and start making those things more personal and serious. I am sure that some other people might start buying your stuff too. Do both!
I mean does it really matter if they are supporting them one way or another?
I agree with Married. I have worked in the medical field for 20 years. I have held the hand of people as they die with no family around from all kinds of cancers. I joked with all them. Most of us in the medical field use humor as a way to cope with what we see and deal with on a daily basis. If you are serious all the time it would kill you, or me at least.
I had several family members die and 5 close friends who are currently in treatment. I am sure they would hate me if I reminded them on a daily basis they were in pain or how sad and sorry I felt for them. They love the humor.
Seriously folks, lighten up. Breast Cancer is serious - I have had many friends die of it and they had only reached 32 years of age. but here's the thing....posting on our walls where we are placing our purses, truly does get people's attention and when stories like this get posted in the media, it brings attention to the Breast Cancer Cause which is exactly what we wanted in the first place. When i rec'd the email message (6 October), I immediately sent it out and it did mention to do this for Breast Cancer Awareness month. By the time everyone figures out what it is for, they will actually smile and then remember who they have lost to the disease.
Allison, you have some sort of bitterness inside of you that you need to get a grip on. You need some help that no amount of seriousness is going to help.
That Is Very Touching..... You Worded It PERFECTLY......I Totally Agree With You.... Words Can't Even Describe How I Feel About What You Just Said.....
My mother (RIP) had three types of cancer (one of which was a very rare type of breast cancer that grew very fast, so fast the Dr.s were reluctant to call it breast cancer) and several of my other family members have had different types of cancers. Your suggestion (which is a good one and shouldn't be ignored) would reach a different demagraphic of the population. Not everyone thinks as you do. If this is what it takes to make some feel more comfortable talking about it and it saves even one life. Then I say so be it! Especially for the men, if this is what it takes to get people talking about any type of cancer, then it is rasing awareness to go get checked! It is not our place to judge what makes someone else more comfortable to talk about such difficult topics. Especially with our sons. But guess what, our sons need to be talk about this too. It effects everyone.
i agree breast cancer is no joke, and think who ever came up with this awareness stunt could have done something different. sorry u got hurt by this, there is another cancer known as pediatric cancer help them all
I got this e-mail in my facebook inbox over 7 months ago, it never said anything about it being for breast cancer awareness. After getting the e-mail I noticed people were posting for like a week and saw nothing of it again until now. People need to stop making such a fuss over things that take place on the internet, and start focusing more on real life. This is a dumb and sick way of trying to make breast cancer more aware.
As this might be a "cute" way for people to be involved in checking out further the Brest Cancer Awareness website. I believe it also is an open invitation to anyone, with access to that persons home, the location of their, purse, wallet, keys, etc.
Why do you want to provide anyone that information.
It's like putting on Facebook that your are leaving to spend 10 days on a Tropical Island. This information give the "bad guys" 10 days to rob your home.
Oh, come on! Do you really think saying where you put your purse in your house is going to invite burglars? If you are diligent about your facebook privacy, you are certainly not publishing your address.
How stupid can you be? Like I'm really going to tell people that I actually hide my purse in the shower? Anybody who can argue with this movement on the basis of "letting prospective burglars know where you like your purse," are beyond redemption. Just one more straw-man argument from people who must be incredibly paranoid. I pity the fools....
From the point-of-view of a man who is married to a breast cancer survivor, I hope it inspires women to seek exams, but some part of me can't help but find it trivial, this has become a fad. I feel that maybe there is a disconnect with pink ribbons and shirts and the actual cancer, but if it helps one woman then mission accomplished. As I see these fly around facebook with the overtly sexual context I can't help being turned off.
I don't know how well it promotes breast cancer awareness to post where you keep your purse, but it isn't too smart to post for everyone to see where you keep your purse it tells any perspective thief exactly where to go if they can get into your home. Not a good thing.
"It's like telling people I'll be out for a two-week vacation..." Yeah, right because a facebook vandal is going to hunt down your home to grab your purse from the table.
If you use privacy settings, and are selective of who you accept as your "friend" on FB, then you shouldn't have to worry about the silliness of posting where you like to keep your purse. Lighten up!
Your opinion is the one that counts the most.
Keep laughin Dawn. It is the best medicine!
Wow, now I get it. Some girl just posted she likes it in the car. I asked her if I could do her in the car...... Guess the joke was on me......
Congrats to you!!! and always keep up your spirit, beacuse only with a happy attitude challenges in life become easier.
Dawn:
I agree Dawn. So happy that you are a SURVIVOR!!!!
Thanks, Dawn for posting your positive thoughts. I can only say that we that made posts/remarks about our purses, the last thing we ever thought or wanted was to offend someone that had survived/fought breast cancer. We are doing this in support, nothing more.
I see both sides of the fence here.
Men can get breast cancer too. Why would you want them to wonder? O.o
I like it emptied, on the bank floor.
breast cancer sucks, but so does life in a world that thinks everyone is supposed to be better than others. Those of us who don't get a race are supposed to suck it up.
Nathan Hughes says:"
Actually, this was started months ago and didn't catch on very well. It wasn't to promote anything except just to get a raised eyebrow or two...
Interesting, I hadn't seen that. I wonder if it then morphed into an "awareness" stunt?
It brought out everyone last night on my facebook. My friend posted something as a joke and over 80 comments in less than an hour.
Sorry..
You have our undivided attention.....
You are an insult to masculinity.
Actually, it started September 20th.
I find the chainletters in my mail box and the status updates of "i like it...." to be annoying and just one more thing to junk up my inbox and news feeds. it does nothing to help breast cancer
Couldn't agree with you more!
Yet another reason why Facebook is lame.
Maybe they are survivors because of awareness!!
Since breast cancer is one of the leading cancer's then finding a cure for this will help find the cures for other cancer's.
It does make it alittle fun..helps take your mind of what us people with breast cancer are going through!!!
What would AIDS and cancer researchers do for a living without all the donations and federal grants flying in the door?
i A G R E E with Saraxx
people getting upset over this is just RIDICULOUS
these people are just mad they couldn't come up with
such a great and creative way to raise awareness.
facebook is the biggest social networking site in the world right now and they're trying to do a good thing for breast cancer AWARENESS. what does aunts, moms, sisters, second cousins twice removed that got breast cancer have to do with what facebook is trying to do?
women care more about breast cancer than men do, one of your male friends sees your "i like it..." status and looks into it more. you just may have educated a man on the fact that its national breast cancer month (if the nfl didnt do it yet) and gave him a few websites to learn more or to even donate. the nfl doesnt put any websites on blast during halftime of every game. but the players wear pink stuff and i havent heard one person call out the nfl for bringing awareness. why is that, allison?

You are absolutely correct. giving up mreat will drastically reduce your chances of getting cancer.
YOU can make a diffrence.
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ also check out Youtube video for world community grid
You can go to the research tab and find the Chiba website that will verify the 2 year time table. Though the pictures the children drew who later succumbed to Cancer still makes me cry, and I'm a 265 lbs 6 foot 2" hard ass.
Just so you know I am also a member http://allprojectstats.com/showuser.php?id=177029
I find the I Like campaing to be SO annoying. Who cares where you put your purse, what the frak does that have to do with breast cancer? Asnine stupid status updates.
yayayayayayayayayayayaya us
Klisaaaa
what
This this the stupidest publicity stunt ever.
Go to The Breast Cancer site and click daily, you may save the life of someone you know ... like your mother, wife, sister, girlfriend, daughter, aunt, grandmother, and so on and so on, even guys for that matter NICK.
hater
Whatever, it is something fun to do rather then do the same thing every year when its breast cancer awareness month. Putting "its breast cancer awareness month" isn't going to grab the attention of so many people like this does. Society is today is driven by sex and if this is how they want to get the attention of the general public. I say go for it.
Well Nick, you may find this idea silly and a waste of time but it DID get YOU interested enough to not only find out what is was standing for but also got you to read the article and even take the time to post. So YES, it does work
Gosh Nick, I bet you only like vanilla ice cream too.
nick, you're the most boring dude ever.
Sorry Nick - unless you are a breast cancer survivor like me, my vote counts for more. AND I LIKE IT!!
I leave mine in the trunk.... raised a few eyebrows when I posted 'I like it in the trunk'
:-)
Life is short, have fun! Be silly, eat dessert, laugh.... help one another.
I Like The Way You Said That....
yayyyy WE DID IT
Putting Breast Cancer Awareness in the subject stirs the reader and maybe some interest in what breast cancer is all about.
Again, please do something meaningful, but be sensitive about it.
devine - I don't think you're changing anyone's mind. Animals are yummy. :)
all - Isn't this yet another way an intruder can find easy access to your personal goods, I mean, now that they know exactly where you put your purse?
I understand your pain, Diane, because I also have the scar from my lumpectomy. I also have a sixteen year old daughter whose girlfriends are more aware of this disease because of the save the ta-tas campaign. The campaign brings the discussion into areas where it would never have been before. Because they see the bumper stickers, etc., they are more willing to discuss the disease and it's prevention, and hopefully will understand that you are never to young to take control of your health
Thanks for the perspective, Diana.
No one is laughing though, it was just a cute way of saying it. Serious subjects can be lightened up with something more delicate.
Elle,
Boobies, testicles, breasts, penis -- they are all the same thing.
Karen
*Good grief*
Mine said the same thing - that it was just a stunt to see if they could get on the news. I deleted them all after that.
yeah thats how I received the message too was just to mess with the guys, nothing towards breast cancer awareness. It did mention the one that went around last year with the bra color for breast cancer awareness but said just to mess with guys.
the message I received said it was for breast cancer awareness, just like last years bra colors...messing with the guys is just an added bonus ;)
The one I got did say it was t raise awareness of breast cancer.
If just one person takes potentially lifesaving action as the result of these efforts, then it is worth it.
I love it! evidently we did something good!
As a breast cancer survivor....I very much agree!!
It is hurting people who have cancer by making it a sexy joke. Let's find another way to raise awareness.
Facebook is a trap to lift information and you hand it over like willing lemmings with each keystroke. Go for a walk and get over the addiction.
Four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and
that's not the worst of it.
HA! Fantastic point!
ewww who would sit their purse on the floor of a public restroom? Icky.
DH- I love your point! That is so true and let's be honest, this whole "I like it on" thing is all relative. It's geared toward the younger crowd and it's getting them talking which seems to have served it's purpose.
I know I'll think twice about where I place my purse from now on:)
Thanks for lightening up the controversy:)
it annoys to no end to see women put purses on kitchen counters and on bathroom floors!
GREAT idea, Allison! THAT I would prefer.
I agree with you Allison! Well said.
It does because every purse has a person... Why can't people think outside of the box?
I don't think anyone meant to offend anyone over it.. and it did exactly what it was supposed to do - get people involved and raise awareness. I do understand you don't like the way it was positioned but instead of complaining about it... start a new trend. You have a good idea... and challenge yourself to see if it sticks.
you started it allison-1248 with "My Aunt" i'll add "My very good friend"
Take your butthurt crap elsewhere.
That Is Very Touching..... You Worded It PERFECTLY......I Totally Agree With You.... Words Can't Even Describe How I Feel About What You Just Said.....
Allison,
My mother (RIP) had three types of cancer (one of which was a very rare type of breast cancer that grew very fast, so fast the Dr.s were reluctant to call it breast cancer) and several of my other family members have had different types of cancers.
Aww, come on.....
It's about boobies!!!!
How can we be mad about that?!?!?!
i like it on the floor of passenger side of pickup
see what I mean?
Could someone please share with the rest of them the joke?!?!?
From the point-of-view of a man who is married to a breast cancer survivor, I hope it inspires women to seek exams, but some part of me can't help but find it trivial, this has become a fad. I feel that maybe there is a disconnect with pink ribbons and shirts and the actual cancer, but if it helps one woman then mission accomplished. As I see these fly around facebook with the overtly sexual context I can't help being turned off.
Turned off, yes, but at least it has the attention of the general MALE public.
on the passenger side floor of pickup truck
I don't know how well it promotes breast cancer awareness to post where you keep your purse, but it isn't too smart to post for everyone to see where you keep your purse it tells any perspective thief exactly where to go if they can get into your home. Not a good thing.
"It's like telling people I'll be out for a two-week vacation..." Yeah, right because a facebook vandal is going to hunt down your home to grab your purse from the table.
If you use privacy settings, and are selective of who you accept as your "friend" on FB, then you shouldn't have to worry about the silliness of posting where you like to keep your purse. Lighten up!
