Schools are doing these things to avoid possible lawsuits. I don't see what the big deal is. In our sexually charged society, what can you expect from our young people. Let's just let the kids have the prom and have some fun. Most of them are having sex already, anyway. As for drugs and alcohol, I don't think they should be tolerated. However, their use would be a boost to behavioral centers and rehab facilities. Face it, America. You did the same thing when you were young. Stop being hypocritical and just chill.
This is the natural progression of an excessively permissive non-judgmental society and it will only get worse since the “genie” is out of the bottle and it can’t be put back.
I don’t think for a second that this is a lost generation as the majority will outgrow this juvenile behavior but there are increasing numbers that will not. They will continue to do their own thing and for them the future will be bleak at best with teenage pregnancy, head to toe tattoos and piercings, etc.
They are relegating themselves to the lower echelon of society with no opportunity for anything but menial employment.
Everybody cut foot loose.lol,What a joke, what this says is they can not control their kids, and canceling a dance because of the actions of a few is far from fair.Have the dance make the rules, break the rules and you leave simple, any problems you are suspended or do not graduate w/ your class.
If someone seems to be under the influence, obviously of course, then set them down, and call the parents. Set your rules and say if you wish not to follow them then don't attend.Come on Montpelliore get control, you tell the kids what to do not the other way around, and where you are every one knows every one.
There is to be no grinding by teens at a school function anyway,I think they can keep to their hands to themselves for a couple of hours.lol Kids, teens want structure, even if they do not act like it.What kind of message do you send them as adults if you can not give them structure, just give up and walk away, wow, how sad you are, please reconsider, and show you can create structure.
Wow. Leave it to a public school to freak out over suggestive dance moves. It's not like they're acutally having sex on the damn dancefloor, so let it be. The drugs is another thing though, that should not be tolerated.
Ok I am not old fashioned or prude in any way but I have to tell you that chaperoning at one of these dances surely made my face turn red...guys grind on the girls. simulate sex moves and practically are dry humping all night long. Is this dancing in any way? No it isn't and I find it really disrespectful to say the least. I love to dance and had many crazy nights in the 80's but this is just insane and stuff like that should be done in private.Girls need to gain some respect for themselves and stop letting guys take advantage of them in this way....it isn't sending a good message at all.
As a chaperone you should have said cut it or leave the dance floor,if you need to get more than a couple of their attention, stop the music and you have stopped the grinding, remind them where they are and how they should be acting,it is a school function, not the club.We are all knuckleheads as teenagers, well most of us anyway.
This was at my daughters high school! The principal, vice principal and other staff were there, I was just helping out and thought that if anything one of them should have said something or stopped it, they didn't. This is how all of the dances are now so I guess I just have to take it or leave it. I keep my mouth shut so I don't sound like my grandma complaining about Elvis and his hips but It doesn't mean I like it.
No teens making physical intimate contact is never accepted or should never be accepted at a public school dance.Chaperones are just that, and like I said take charge, tell the principal to stop the music, how hard is that to do,make a joke to the kids but warn them gyrating against each other is not acceptable. The ones that cant handle it don't dance.Wow control.
Do not worry about how you sound, you are right and that is most important. It is not about being a prude, it is about respect of each others body.Young men do not need any more help getting their hormones in an uproar.
I have to laugh at this stuff as I remember my dad complaining about how rock and roll was so bad until my mom reminded him about a dance called the black bottom and he never said anything again about dancing
I saw a video on TV (Tosh.0) of young - I mean very young, some looked under 6 - kids doing this kind of dancing, although there was very little dancing, it was grinding, girls laying on the floor with boys on top, girls pressed up against the wall with boys grinding from behind, girls on top giving what can only be called lap dancing. The Brazilian move where you bang your butt against someone's face -- this is dancing? Obviously there were parents present at this dance (in the video), but something is wrong if you condone this behavior.
There was also a school who cancelled further dances after the janitors complained of having to clean up "bodily fluid" off the floors. The kids make a tight circle and you can't see what's going on in the middle. Add liquor and drugs to this mix, and these kids are out of control. If it takes canceling a homecoming dance to stop this insanity, so be it.
Well that will surely stop them from dancing dirty and doing drugs...lol....lol....lol.
At least it would not be school sanctioned.

It's too cold in VT. for anything serious to happen at a dance.

As Montpelliore you also need to take charge.
