I'm so glad I found this article. My husband is obsessed with wrestling and pushes our son to do this. Our son does not like it. He has won some tournaments and has learned the moves. But the practice is too much and he's already burnt out. You can't talk to him about it because he says he'll get a scholarship some day or if he pushes him maybe he'll be glad in the long run. But he's 10 and he's already burnt out and tells me he hates it but doesn't want to make dad mad if he tells him he wants to quit. I've told my husband he wants to quit and he pouts and gets his way. Any ideas??? He also says he doesn't want our son being a sissy.
This is so true. Kids are being forced to do things that they don't feel comfortable doing. Playing sports are suppose to be fun. Something that kids look forward doing. Now and days kids are looking at sports as a chore. Its becoming boring to them. Parents just need to set down and listen and hear what their kids want to do.
I'm glad to have found this page as i myself am a 16 year old sports player and i find that we do get pushed a lot by our coaches, parents and team colleagues. I have shown this page to my mum so she will not push me or my Two 11 year old brothers to do well in our chosen sports.
