My doctor told me, a retiree, to lose weight or get diabetes. I try to do 1000 calories a day of activity. If I'm not cutting the grass (40 minutes 250 calories front and back yards) or vacuuming the floor 300 calories (70 minutes upstairs downstairs and the steps) or standing up or driving when I go shopping with my wife (3 calories a minutes) for my present weight of 225 lbs, then I walk 5.4 miles a day 650 calories and ride my bike another 6 miles 350 more calories to achieve my daily goal. I used to weigh 260.9 lbs. The problem with getting exercise in the California town in which I live is that the cops believe that bicycle riders are criminals. Several years ago I had my picture taken for legally riding a bicycle down the street and a couple of weeks later had a decoy car placed in my walking path, parked on the wrong side of the road with the driver's side door blocking the sidewalk pointed in the direction I was walking. Being a retired nuclear engineer and 13.5 gallon blood donor that p'd me off. Just in the last 6 months, the minister of propaganda for the police dept. Herr Gerbels put a front page story in the paper that said "If you see bicycle riders in your neighborhood call the cops." At least he didn't say to shoot them. Then when I was on my daily bicycle ride, a path I ride every day, there was a domestic disturbance 1/2 block from where my path took me and I heard a plainclothes cop yell "There's a bicycle rider". Needless to say 5 blocks later, I had my picture taken again. One reason people might not exercise is the Barney Fife Dick Tracy wannabes driving around in their cop cars on their FA's. That's my theory and I 'm stickin top it.
What's wrong with the cops taking your picture, you might say? Well in Northern California in the last year two people were arrested for robbing 2 different banks because they matched the description of the bandit. One had a video showing that he was in Washington State when the robbery occurred. The cops even said as much on that one. The other was a lawyer and he took like 6 months to clear his name even though his fingerprints were not on the holdup note given to the teller. They eventually arrested the person whose fingerprints were on the note. Then I could go on about fingerprints. This Muslim in the Pacific Northwest was told his fingerprints were on bomb debris from the Spanish mass transit terrorist attack. 3 FBI experts said it was his print. He knew it wasn't so he hired his own expert who told him it was his print too. Eventually Spain arrested someone else whose fingerprints they really were. Then there was the time I was in college and a kid came up to me and started talking like he knew me. I said "Do I know you?" He replied "Yeah, you are my high school chemistry teacher." I still hadn't graduated from college yet and I was his high school chemistry teacher. Do you want the cops to have your picture to flash to people that had crimes committed against them. I think not.
My brother and i came from Australia as teens. We are now in our 60's and run, lift weights, surf, play tennis, hike, sail, and pursue happiness with all of our might. Both of us have had back and shoulder surgeries. I have also fought in a war, had two brain and cancer surgeries and treatment. Each time we worked hard to recover so that we could return to work and play. We love the USA but wish people would give more energy to just become themselves and not images on a techno screen!
I work as a Heavy Equipment Operator for a small city now. While it is work it is not exercise so when i get a 15 minute break at 10 and 2 i walk and on my 30 minute lunch break i run.
I do sneek in a sandwich while i am on working though.

Wonder how many Stimulus dollars went into this study and if it counted as a " Job saved "
I don't know about everyone else, but as a pharmacy technician in a hospital I get about 20,000 per 10 hour shift and I work 4 shifts per week.
sureeeeeeeeeee lol
It has come to the point where they've to say this, "
Bassett said research has shown that just putting one foot in front of the other can help prevent weight gain."
That's just disgusting. Have we really become that lazy?
