The first person I personally knew who developed aids was a monogomous father of two, happily married. He got aids from a blood transfusion.

How do I know he was monogomous? I sang in a group with him. When we would travel, some of the guys, married and not married, would screw around. He would almost run from females that approached him in an inappropriate manner. He never sought out casual relationships.

Because at least in 2005, over half of new HIV infections were among gay men, even though they are a much, much smaller percentage of the population. Also up to 20% of gay men in cities were HIV positive.

Well for starters HIV can be up to 100,000 times more (no @!$%# on this one) potent when injected through male semen. Seminal plasma carries lots of hormones and other chemicals that are meant to be absorbed by the soft tissue through the vaginal wall into the blood vessels there. This allows the virus an easy way into the body. The anal wall while being a bit stronger works much the same way.

Going in the opposite direction (vaginal secretions through the penis) is much more difficult for the virus, but still possible. Point is that the virus is mainly spread through male semen.

A large proportion of black males are in prison. I'm sure many who are not gay decide to become "bi-sexual" to satisfy sexual urges. Also, drug usage is disproportionately larege among blacks. These are large contributors to aids transmittal, IMO.

Why do these two conditions exist? They range from an unjust "justice system", to reactions to disenfranchisement in society, to poorer economic status, to irresponsibility, historical education and employment deficits ... a myriad of factors have made it more likely to see more blacks in the criminal justice system.

Richard there is a very good biological reason why male / male sex tends to spread HIV. Only 5% of ejaculate is sperm, the other 95% is seminal plasma and is composed of lots of different hormones and chemicals. These hormones are designed to go through the vaginal wall and be absorbed into the blood stream by the blood vessels nearby. Yes semen contains lots of interesting chemicals most of which cause that warm feel-good reward mechanism in the female.

That mechanism provides a very easy path for HIV to enter into a female. Now the reverse process isn't nearly as easy. Vaginal secretions are designed to provide lubrication not carry chemicals into the male blood stream. And while its possible for the virus to spread through female secretions into the male penis, especially if there is broken skin, it has a significantly smaller chance of happening. The rarest would be female on female as there just isn't an easy way for the virus to jump partners. This mechanism also works through the anal wall into the blood vessels near the anus. And while the anal wall is tougher and there is less chance, the spreading mechanism (seminal plasma) is the exact same. HIV can live inside seminal plasma nearly indefinitely so it has many many chances at breaking through.

As you see, its not the gay lifestyle, its the fact that you have two members both capable of producing the perfect medium for HIV to spread. And those members are inserting that medium into the most unprotected area's of their body's.

Problem with these numbers is they didn't mention the methods of the study nor differentiate between sex's. A male who only has sex with females has a pretty small chance of getting it from the females. A female who only has sex with males has a moderate chance of getting it. A female who only has sex with other females has a near zero chance of catching it. And a male who has sex with another male or allows infected seminal fluid to get anywhere near unprotected soft tissue has a very high chance of acquiring HIV.

I'm pretty sure part of the reason for their AIDS rate being higher is also environmental. More blacks live in run down poor cities where opportunities for a better life are extremely limited. This type of depressed living often leads to increases in disease. I would expect if you based the research off of economic and environmental factors instead of race, you would see a less drastic difference between Blacks, Whites Asians and so on. The two categories of people who have the most contact with seminal fluid from a possibly infected partner are straight females and homosexual / bisexual males. Seeing as women can't produce seminal fluid, nor have a means to inject into places with soft tissue, it would then lead to the homosexual male as having the highest possible infection rate.

In short, it does matter what your sexuality is. It matters alot.

Unfortunately, in our society blacks don't have the same access to education and resources, so it is not surprising that any disease, AIDS included, would be more prominent in this population. Lack of education, a "live hard cause there might not be a tomorrow" lifestyle, less access to medical care, hopelessness, apathy...all can help explain these findings.
