Is political correctness blinding the WHO to the real ansd lasting solution to this problem?
As the article stated, the disease-carrying sand fleas thrive in unsanitary conditions; among garbage, trash, dung, etc. Perhaps if the Afghans wouldn't throw their trash aound where they live and cleaned up some of the pig sty most of them live in, the sand fleas, and so the spread of the disease, would be considerably reduced.

The disease has nothing to do with warfare. I posted below in response to another, the Afghanis live in a Dark Ages tribal society. The live like it's the Dark Ages. they practice Dark Ages sanitation. As such, it can hardly be surprising that they continue to suffer from diseases of the Dark Ages.
The ball is in their court. They can accept the age of enlightenment, stop using their hand for toilet paper, pick up their trash, and get rid of the exposed human and animal waste or continue to enjoy the detriments of Middle-Age diseases.
Maybe their beloved taliban and al queda will step up and fund the costs of the medicine and treatment. Oh, wait, that means a reduction in their arms spending and well, can't have that now can they?Hopefully we won't spend one red cent over there as long as the politicians there are funneling our aid money to these terrorist organizations. Another reason too to bring our troop home and get the hell out of there.

Bottom line is...when people don'y want to move forward from the Dark Ages; when they live like it's the Dark Ages, when theypractice Dark Age sanitation, they will continue to suffer from Dark Age diseases. It's inevitable.
Oops....forgot th reply to the second part. Actually, I couldn't care less. If the Afghanis want to live in the Dark Ages....go ahead. But then they have to accept the down side of that sort of living.
What does concern me is that our State Department, DPH, and others are going to take good taxpayer money and throw it down the dunghole that is Afghanistan to try to fix a problem that is unfixable given their current living conditions. What also bothers me (even more) is that they're too stupid to realize it.
