DeCoster doesn't give a rats a$$ about the FDA, they have no power. He will sell the eggs to processors to be cracked. The cracked egg product is irradiated to sterilize it.
The FDA is worthless, and is trying to look like it's on top of this problem. YEAH, right!
Nothing like being retroactive. DeCoster will be in the news again one way or another. He has a long history of flaunting the laws of this country for the sake of his profit. Several years ago they had to shut down temporarily due to the INS depriveing him of employees, some making over 60K a year.
It's all about Business v. Humans. You guessed it. Business wins out every time the FDA gets involved. However, I would check out your egg supplier dealer. I did mine and it's strictly north east.
Joe, I do not want to scare you, but you need to be aware that DeCoster is associated with a large operation in the state of Maine. So, check out who actually owns and/or controls your egg "farm."
I use only local eggs, none from grocery chain stores. Who knows where they buy from. I would never trust this producer after he blatantly ignored safety procedures at his businesses, and no one in their right mind should trust the FDA to monitor him, or any other production operations, for that matter. They did not do so before this situation occurred, why would we trust that they will do so now? The FDA is implicated in poor monitoring of meat and other food product producers as well with disastrous results. No eggs for me that do not come from our local, scrupulous small businesses. They are clean, carefully monitored, and display their inspection records to prove it. I buy beef, pork, chicken and vegetables only from area producers I know to be reliable, as well. We are clearly our only safeguard. We simply cannot rely on those who monitor food producers on our behalf. Sadly, they do not do the work they are paid to do.

Excuse me but isn't this half ass backwards ? Shouldn't they be CLOSED DOWN until they CLEAN UP ???

How much money has this guy shoved down the pockets of his politicians to protect him? Follow the money.
Eggs have been off the menu at our house since this story broke. They will remain off.
Besides being too high in cholesterol, descriptions of the conditions on mechanized egg farms have completely repulsed me.
