I can see why the doctors would do this. If they have a terminally ill patient and they think this trial drug may be able to help them they are doing what they can to get the patient in the trial. It's with good intentions to save a life no doubt but because of the skew in numbers and stats for the trial it may actually cause the drug to not pass when it could have benefitted many more lives had it passed and been put on the market for all patients. The docs mean well but that doesn't make it right. However if a patient is dying anyways and a trial drug may help they should have a choice to try it regardless of their blood levels. I mean they are dying anyways if they are willing to risk dying faster when theres a chance it could slow their death or save their life instead wheres the harm, just don't mix their data with the trial people that have the required blood levels. Personally if it were me I'd rather risk dieing sooner for a chance to save my life than suffer the slow painful death alot of patients with a terminal illness have to.
