Can't ANYBODY out there build a baby crib without it being capable of killing those who sleep in it. Crap, every other week it seems to be baby cribs or car seats. Do they scrape the bottom of the barrel for designers or what
cribs and children's furniture and toys didnt used to kill our children and babies ... until they were made overseas in Asia. Perhaps we need them "made in America" again to ensure our children's safety. I see why big business takes their production jobs overseas ... slave laboer is against the law here in the USA - not there - and safety standards demanded by regulations here arent elsewhere. Why do we Americans support the businesses that defy our laws by bringing their jobs abroad and then support the slavery and near slavery employment conditions and sub-standard manufacturing practices used abroad by purchasing these items?
Ethan Allen used to stand for one of the highest qualities of furniture in the USA ... and was a long tradition founded by one of our founding fathers. Now it is a name bought and paid for by foreigners with no commitment to the tradition of quality it sprouted from and embodied.
Yepp...blame China for all these American-design cribs...win-win situation...Design cheap crap cribs and pay ignorant Chinese manufactuers peanuts to make them, and make massive profits. When there are design faults, blame China...
At 60+ years of age my wife and I have no clue how we made it this far! By this I mean our crib bars were too far apart, our cribs had drop sides that did not work, our cribs were hand-me downs, blablabla. BTW we sat in the front seat between our parents if both of them were in the car NOT IN A CAR SEAT. I asked my father (86) how he made it and he just laughs at some of the ways government interferes with lives today.
I couldn't agree more! :) If you read some of these recalls and safety standards now, it's a shock that the human race even exists now!
So much of these new standards are SO over-the-top. (Possibly a result of too many lawsuits?) I'm a Pediatrician, so I definitely want safe and happy kids, but even I think part of these recalls are just bananas!!!
I purposefully looked for a drop-rail crib when I had my baby this past spring, and I have no plans of getting rid of it. All of these fixed-rail cribs are SO tall -- if you're 5'3" like me, there is NO way you can put your baby down for a nap unless the crib mattress is at the highest setting. As soon as you have to drop the mattress, you can't reach over and put your baby down anymore!!! All of you lucky tall mommies out there may have the luxury of these new "superior" cribs, but leave a few drop-side options out there for the rest of us!!
I completely agree. I am 5'2" and I the rail on our crib when up goes to my armpits. I have a friend in a wheel chair and they had to find just the right portable crib that did not have too tall sides so she could reach in, forget about a regular crib. If they are required to be fixed, then they should make some that are lower to the ground for those of us that are short.
My drop-rail crib is SO much more sturdy than some of the cheap cribs I came across at Babies-R-Us and Target. Go to a good furniture store and buy REAL wood, heavy oak or cherry furniture, and it will last longer than any fixed-rail crib made out of kindling (which is what some of them feel like.) I've been so pleased with it. It is built to last for YEARS to come

people have been making cribs for years,,,,,,,, GET IT WRIGHT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf its a crib!!
I just don't understand why anyone would buy a drop-side crib. They are dangerous and it is not that difficult to lift an infant out of a crib.
