Lets include diet soft drinks that are loaded with toxic chemicals, drug usage, alcohol, smoking, high obesity levels, dangerous food additives such as excessive sodium, sugars, trans fat and corn syrup.
robert, no one mentioned treating these women with antidepressants. We could just recommend support groups, counseling, and other means of support. Being a new mother, I can certainly understand the need for this kind of service. Many women do not have a very good support system at home, nor could they identify depression on their own.
Healthier mom's mean healthier babies and that saves all of us money.
That would be great if that is what this is used for. But make no bones about it. This is for funneling mothers into "experts" and "treatment". Those experts are psychiatrists and GPs. That treatment means medication.
Yeah, sounds like a great benefit to human kind, right?
One of the mainstay, staple, medications given to mothers is manufactured by GSK & called Paxil. GSK is defending itself in hundreds of unsettled birth defect lawsuits brought by parents (mothers) advised to take Paxil during pre-term trimesters. Paxil causes heart defects and lung defects in fetuses and new borns.
Which doesn't even address that the child CAN'T possibly be covered under the informed consent laws and they are born being chemically addicted and altered by such "treatment".
If I was a parent of one of these such children who happened to be "LUCKY" enough to survive, I'd make sure when they reach the age of consent they bring suit against GSK & the attending psychiatrist or OBGYN for violating informed consent laws and malpractice.
So let them be severely depressed and kill themselves and then you don't have to worry about either? Sometimes the anti-depressents are the only way to save thier lives. Are they over-prescribed? Just like Ritalin...YES they are, BUT that doesn't mean no one should take them.
Just like Ritalin...YES they are, BUT that doesn't mean no one should take them.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Those in charge of overprescibing ritalin will also increase the sales of antideppressants in the name of "we're just trying to help"
No one said that "no one" should take them. That is a false argument. Until proven otherwise, medical research is just a pharma mouthpiece.
Always ask. Who funded this study and what is the financial purpose of this study. Who benefits financially. You'll find that the vast majority of studies are junk.
And after all is tried and the personis still suicidal sometimes (as I stated before) the antidepressants are the only way to save their lives so that the counseling will work. The main point is to find someone who does not believe they are always a permanent solution. Not every medication is a Big Pharma conspiracy.
I have no doubt that some of these medication have helped someone. But on the flip side they have been shown to be no better than placebo and can cause an increase in suicidal and homocidal thoughts.
No they were attempting suicide...luckily not all are successful...with our daughter, you could always tell when she cycled through her depression, she always had her dogs with her in the car...She would kill herself, but not her dogs...She is totally different and can deal with life when she takes an anti-depressant e she needs it. The antidepressants had nothing to do with causing her depression but they have saved her sanity. Perhaps if there where effective anti-depressants back in the late 60's my husband's father wouldn't have killed himself and destroyed his family in the process. There is no single answer and an entire class of drugs cannot be condemned because some doctor over prescribe them. Unless you have lived through depression, suicide and the side effects of those you only know the propaganda. Do they work for all? Absolutely not, that wouldbe why patients need good doctor communication and information to make informed decisions. Patients need to take responsibility for their own health care decisions.
But as you can see on the linked site above IT DOESN'T WORK for THOUSANDS of people who have experienced violence THAT WASN'T PRESENT BEFORE THE PRESCRIBED SSRI.

Sure it can. It's called UNETHICAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST and the governing regulating agencies have fined pharma companies and psychiatrists BILLIONS for it. This year alone.
Taking any psychotropic drug will introduce poison into the system and CAUSES a chemical imbalance. This will happen to the fetus. This "recommendation" so prominently given media space is nothing more than a PR move by Big Pharma. Big Pharma's entire marketing plan is to create a disorder or problem, in conjunction with psychiatry (which is how we get the DSM) and then issue media to alarm us all about the problem created, and then provide a "solution." (Never mind that these solutions have never cured a single problem, and have produced toxic brain chemistry, that has resulted in hundreds of homicides and suicides.) http://ssristories.com/index.php
I say that of COURSE there are babies born to depressed mothers nowadays because there is a ton of depressed people in general nowadays - mothers are no different! This is why holistic mind, body, and spirit care (not to mention self-care in all these areas) is so important for everyone, most of all new mothers - they're caring for two, after all.

Brilliant marketing idea for big pharma.

And "medication" QUICKLY = pharma $$$

AMEN!
Quite often such, "medical research" is NOTHING more than a press release ghost written by a pharma sales rep and fronted by the "researcher".

Whatever they were doing/feeling BEFORE they were advised to take anti-depressants, they weren't killing themselves or others.
