BPA is estrogenic, so finding is not too surprising. However, these are the kind of studies needed to get attention and force a shift away from polycarbonate plastics (typically, the main route of exposure for humans).
How is this surprising? I'm sure people in the industry knew of the negative effects of this chemical many years ago and only recently has it been leaked to the public. I don't know why it isn't front page news, oh wait that's reserved for celebrity gossip. It makes me think about how many other chemicals are out there as harmful as BPA that we are totally unaware of. I doubt any heads will roll since chemical company's good relationship with goverment regulatory agencies. Makers of BPA will just say "Oops, we didn't know" and they'll get away with it.
None of this is new. It's been known for years. The chemical industry has been trying to suppress it. If I was a guy who had trouble getting my wife pregnant because of a related issue, now's the time to sue for big bucks. When industry knows there is a problem and tries to hide it, they deserve to get whacked hard. It's completely different if it's a new discovery, but this isn't.
Guess what. Once the Republicans get elected, there will be no attempt to reduce the amount of BPA in packaging. As a result, we can face all sorts of health risks. I'd suggest that voters think twice before getting rid of health care reform. The person denied health insurance and health care could well be you - especially if you can't survive without bottled water.
What I find tragically ironic is that the people who will be most affected by BPA are quite often the folks who vote Republican. It's like the GOP and the Tea Party are destroying their own followers.
I don't expect my words will sway many voters. But at least I've told the truth. Vote GOP and trust me, you'll die regretting it.
BPA is in the water supply...you get some in tap water. It has affected the reproductive systems of some fish in some waterways like the Potomac. Bottled water bottles (at least the ones I use) do not contain BPA...and so depending on the water source, bottled water may often be safer...even for other reasons, as well.
Remember those frozen vegetables that you put in boiling water, plastic bag and all, to prepare them?...A chemical nightmare, as BPA and other chemicals leach the greatest amount into foods/liquids when heated up...thus plastic food wrapping/containers that go in the microwave or the plastic baby bottles/liners that parents have been using for decades to warm up and feed babies their formula/milk from have all played a big part in this massive problem.
I am just glad that some researchers are finally showing the harmful effects in humans, and hopefully will be able to bring about a change in the use of plastics in this world...and ban the use of BPA completely, as even when not in food wraps/containers, it still finds its way into our water supply, contaminates our air and environment and causes health dangers. With this study's findings on it's effects on male sperm, how long do you think it will be before they show it's detrimental effects on brain development, precocious puberty, obesity, gender idenity/sexuality, and other conditions? Maybe they will ban it before any of that is proven, so as to protect the plastics industry from huge legal judgements against them.
What free market? We haven't had one for a long time now. Our free market today consists of Corporate America and it's lobbying activities, Congress and the credit industry. The consumer is no longer included in the equation. Quality of goods and services are not a consideration. There is no such thing as a maket based price, pricing is based on the availability of credit and sales are based on "how much is my payment?". We are so poluted by Corporate America and Congresses bared backsides it is pitiful. All forms of cancer, type 2 diabetes and such are known to be caused by exposure to dioxins. (China is included in the term "Corporate America", after all it is the new financial owner of Corporate America.) Cancers and type 2 Diabetes and others are now epidemic in the world as the result of the cumulative effects of dioxin exposure. BPA causes lowered sperm counts but it requires considerable exposure? When a person uses vitamins or most medications the effects are cumulative, the do not occur all at once, immediately and are usually not notice because it is so gradual. 5 generations from now the cumulative effect of BPA will be felt just like we are now seeing the cumulative effect of Dioxins. 5 generations from now, when birthing is rare the "nuclear threat" to the world will no longer be a concern. Corporate America, (incl. China), will have killed off the entire population as the result of these substances accumulating in the human system.

The problem will be trying to present evidence that BPA is the reason why your wife couldn't get pregnant. I don't think anybody stands a chance.

Miller...rest well. The free market will take care of your sperm count in the same way that it put the economy in the shape its in.
