Interesting. It was recently published that people in cities are more likely to have it and mothers who do not get enough vitamin D are more likely to give birth to a schizophrenic.
Beth, a sincere question. Do you really give any credence to these health news blurbs ? Caffeine is good, caffeine is bad......cell phone radiation is dangerous, then harmless, eat kale, eat fish...dont eat fish, watch your carbs, or is it your fat intake that will kill you.
It used to be vit E and K that were the hot vitamin recommendations, then it was vit C.......now all you hear about is vit D.......your thoughts?
If you haven't guessed it yet, here it is. Since there isn't any verifiable biological tests for ANY mental illness diagnosis, the psychiatric industry can "link" whatever they want to ANY of their DSM diagnosis/billing categories. And they do. Convenient isn't it?
What would be a worth while study, as opposed to all those studies "linking" whatever to whatever, would be a study of the resultant boost in psychiatrist appointment bookings and prescription fillings after one of these "studies".

Even if it were true, that older men whose first babies are born after 30 have proportionally more schizophrenic babies, nowhere in the article is it speculated that perhaps this is because they produce more non-viable sperm, and, hence do not produce viable embryos often, and therefore do not have babies when they are younger. It seems that maybe they should look at those who ELECT to postpone child producing, vs. those whose babies just don't happen until they are older.
Actually, there are two very good tests for human disposition towards schizophrenia, which are highly reliable and seldom used.
The first one is whole blood histamine, either high or low, which is a genetic factor that can be identified at any age, and corrective measures taken. The blood test costs $156.
The normal range for histamine is 30-65 ng/ml for males. The normal range for women is somewhat narrower.
A level below 20 ng/ml virtually guarantees a serious level of dysfunction. This is the insensitive type of schizophrenic with a noticeably dark aspect that often scares people.
High-histamine people are typically less disabled, except at very high levels, above 90 ng/ml, where their extreme sensitivities make it impossible for them to tolerate the stress of ordinary living.
Test two is a finding of pyroluria, where the person excretes abnormal amounts of zinc and b-6, causes the aggravated quality in schizophrenia that can lead to actual violence. The urine test costs $36.

However, you may have to fight it out with the authorities to get the job done, if they have already made a diagnosis and certified the patient.
The important thing is to test kids with questionable symptoms at an early age, when something can be done pre-emptively. Then you know exactly what you are dealing with, unless the condition was caused by trauma or brain allergy.

Chemical imbalance could happen to anyone, but we have to focus in researches to prevent this, early visit to a professional will help to detect if symptoms could be present or a high risk of developing mental distress.
