Well...I think this study is a bunch of BUNK! I have FOUR kids; have eaten LOADS of Peanut Butter while pregnant with ALL of them and only ONE has a peanut allergy. Now...that in itself does not disprove this theory BUT the ONE that has the allergy is a TWIN.....and the other twin.....has NO FOOD ALLERGIES WHATSOEVER. Obviously, since I was carrying them both at the exact same time; they injested the exact same amount of peanut product - so wouldn't it make sense that they would BOTH be affected similarly? But yet....they were not..... I have no idea what is causing all these peanut related allergies BUT, I am more inclined to think it's something that we're adding to our foods (preservatives or something...) as I know that it's nothing "new" for preggie mom's to crave peanut butter, however, when I was a kid (30 years ago..) I never knew of ANYONE with a peanut allergy! Now I can name 10 kids without even stretching...... :(
we are too paranoid about peanuts in this country. i stuffed myself with peanuts and peanut butter with my first pregnancy and my child has no food allergies. i didn't have any peanuts during my second pregnancy and my second child is severely allergic to peanuts. there are cultures in this world that feed peanut products to their children before they turn 2 and they have no peanut allergy problems whatsoever. why are we so paranoid about everything little thing related to children in this country??
mine would too, but that doesn't mean that i think that peanuts are so evil that they should be banished from the earth, which is exactly the way many people act.
the paranoia that i'm talking about is the kind where a person or group of people try desperately to find the root cause of every little thing so that they can avoid them in the hopes of never getting sick. i'm not happy that my child has a peanut allergy but i'm not going to demand to know why she has it and to expect the world to bend over backwards to accommodate her.
our society spends too much time demanding every little thing rather than just dealing with what we have.
I don't know about others, but I ate a lot of peanut butter during and after my pregnancy. My daughter was born with a life threatening peanut allergy as well as asthma. She suffered greatly and was sick all the time. I was nursing her after eating peanut soup and peanut butter (vegetarian). I gave her peanut butter for the first time at the age of 12 months, that's when she had her first reaction, after that I quit eating peanuts.
I did not drink, smoke or take any medication other than vitamins. I didn't even have pain medication when I delivered- au naturale.
No one doctor has ever asked me about my family's medical history. How can you find answers to questions when you don't talk to the people who are closest to it? I am happy that there are people trying to find answers, but where are these studies being done and with whom? Did you ever think to ask us, the ones in the trenches? I might have something important to add!

I am paranoid because my daughter will DIE if she injests peanuts, isn't that good enough?
