What did you expect them to say? Typical survey where a predetermined result is achieved by how the question is asked! Did they ask them if they did it because it feels great?
You took the words out of my mouth. This is another example of confirmation bias. While I don't doubt there may be some common sense information here, common sense is pretty fudgy when it comes to data. Social sciences tend to be awfully soft, anyway. Measuring satisfaction and self esteem is too subjective, even worse if the information is being used in comparison. Tell me how this could be tested through double-blind experimentation or how one group's results even relates to the other group. What would they do, have a guy report on sex with his wife and then have him cheat on her and report on sex with a mistress?
Reminds me of something I once read on Gandhi, when as a an old man he would sleep with teenage girls to harden is resolve against temptations of the flesh. I could just imagine him lamenting to his wife the next morning, "Gosh, honey, I failed again. Looks like I'll have to test myself another night until I get it right."
The problem with most American women is nowadays they don't like sex as much as they used to; this is why American men are travelling overseas more to find real women who are both sexy and feminine. The new frontier and the New Rome as always in on distant lands and shores not too far away from our own southern border!
I have heard such remarks before ... as a man I could agree to a point, however it is also a truth that many women expect the man not only to perform ... but know HOW to perform. Few women take the time to articulate to the man exactly what she wants and how she wants it be done. Speaking personally I am only too eager to pleasure a woman in any way possible for as long as she wishes if only I can be blessed with a few verbal cues to tell me what she really wants. The beauty of is that the man may then get to enjoy the feeling of providing her with a number of toe-curling body shaking orgasms before he fires his one-shot cannon. The idea is that the man and the woman help each other to achieve maximum pleasure together ... if it is to be otherwise, then why even bother?
Those are the men that cowards and need to control women. It has nothing to do with finding them more feminine or sexually active. These are men that gravitate towards submissive women because they can't get laid in this country, let alone have a decent conversation with a woman.
A handful of engineers I worked with married women from Mexico when they were moving manufacturing lines there. Honestly - how does a man have a good marriage with a woman who cannot speak his language? It's sad. These women obviously prostituted themselves to have a supposedly better life here in the USA but they don't have licenses, are not allowed to work, attend school or have friends. They are just household slaves to them, nothing more.
3 of these Mexican women have now filed for divorce from the USA men. So much for them enjoying sex more than the American women. LOL...
The reasons for seeking, participating in and enjoying sex are as complex as the two people who actually engage in it. Even the motives can be different from event to event between participants due to their changing attitudes, feelings and modus operandi. As it is in physics, so it is with sexual activity ... to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. While it is arguably the most enjoyable of all human activities, it seems that it has always been the most misunderstood. I imagine all we can continue to do is practice, practice, practice .... 'til we get it right. :-)~~(-:
Generalizations can only go as far as the population group studied.
Very insightful on the college age subjects, unfortunately they are hardly the only sub-group having sex, and maybe less mature and experienced as an age group, certainly not in long committed relationships (not enough time)
"Why we have sex influences our enjoyment of it". Nothing like a run on sentence to start the week. My head continues to spin after reading that sentence. One must read it very slowly to make any sense of it.
Maybe they need to study people who have been having an enjoying sex for several decades. When you study children, you're not going to get a mature result.
Why I had sex as a 20 year old (conquest, perpetual horniness) is drastically differnt than why I had sex as a 50 year old (nothing on TV, wife took a bath). :).
What about guys that have sex just because they enjoy it? There are plenty of men who just enjoy sex, and all it's intimate back-and-forth, just for the physical and mental pleasure it brings. How satisfied are they? I didn't see that aspect addressed in the study.

If men were less selfish lovers, maybe that wouldn't be a problem.

romancaesar.........Maybe they just don't enjoy sex with you ! I have found the truth to be quite the opposite of your claim.
lol, yeah but those type of men are losers and they have to pay for it.. LMAO!!

"The researchers aren't sure why more factors influenced women's satisfaction than men's."
How about since we are less likely to have an orgasm, we have to have sex for other reasons besides physical satisfaction.
Call me............
LMFAO!!

No one else had trouble with it..
