If you're a guy and still going at it after that much time you have to choose to either hurt the woman (physically) to actually get off, just stop sex and admit to a lack of orgasm, which hurts the woman's ego/emotions/pride, or to lie/fake an orgasm. I've always chosen the latter.

Nola, rest assured that I guarantee more taxpayer money is wasted on water in the dorms that goes down the drain while kids brush their teeth than was spent on sending out surveys (likely online) and tallying the results. This isn't some long, protracted study with large amounts of resources being devoted to investigating and analyzing complex data. It's a survey. Seriously.

It seems as if you do not know either. I do suspect that in the overall scheme of things it was not a significant amount compared to the $1billion they churn through a year. Nonetheless, it is a useless, wasteful study.I also do not know how you define "meager" but do know that I would not justify a waste by saying bigger wastes exist.

I'm a little curious as to why you consider this study "wasteful"? It seems the study covered numerous aspects of sexual health, and I don't believe, in this day and age, that sexual health can or should be ignored.

Studies like this help in the combating the transmission of HIV and other STDs. They provide backround to pyschologists and psychiatrists who use them to help the mental health of others. Perhaps this study or others like it will prevent a person with a sexual problem from becoming a sexual predator. As this appears to be just a survey, the cost would have been comparatively minor - getting a group together for a few hours (possibly paying them - which goes right back into the local economy) the cost of paper, pencils and having some grad student tabulate the results. A few thousand dollars at the outside.

And if it saves just one kid from a sexual predator, well, how much is That worth to you...? Still a big waste?

As a forensic psychologist who has performed studies with public funding, I have some experience in this area. What blows me away is that people seem to think that only applied research is worth being funded at all. Many of the greatest discoveries of physics, biology, and human behavior have occurred as a result of "blue sky" research funded by the public. We should be proud that, as a nation, we have all played a part in bettering our understanding of the human mind and behavior.

The fact is, this type of research would be extremely cheap. It helps us understand human beings. That is what psychology is about. If you need more, then consider the number of people with sexual dysfunctions or other problems of a sexual nature. Studies like this help treat those people and help them lead healthier sex lives.

If you think that this still isn't worthy of public funding, please consider that some murders happen as a direct result of a feeling of sexual inadequacy. Ask any profiler who deals with sexual homicide. Helping people have better sex lives can literally save lives. We shouldn't need something this serious, though, to do research that can better the lives of others, particularly cheap and easy survey research.

There is a whole other aspect that everyone seems to be leaving out of this. Sex and orgasms come much easier when you are finally with the right person. If you are not relaxed and enjoy everything about the person your are with sex is never going to be good. We with out a doubt know we where meant for each other and are best friends. Sex 3-5 times a week. It is great every time, it is not work and no expectations and orgasms every time. What's worse is biologically, a woman should orgasm second. Scientists have looked at the mechanics of the female orgasm and found that the mouth of the uterus dips down into the vaginal canal. This mechanism helps pull the man's ejaculate into the uterus to increase the odds of fertilizing the egg.
