Smokers should definitely pay a much higher premium on their health insurance than non-smokers to counter the cost of their pulmonary/cardiac/cancer care in the future. We pay about 12% extra on everything we buy because of "security costs" by merchants trying to control shoplifting. Anyone out there object to paying higher premiums because of those who need extensive medical treatment based on a decision to smoke most of their life?
Had you done any research on the subject you would be aware that those who smoke are commonly already charged considerably more on their insurance premiums. Now then. Just what misguided concept leads you to believe that you might somehow live forever and never acquire some form of ailment that could lead to extensive hospitalization? As far as I know everybody eventually dies. Some sooner, some more quickly than others. Even the oldest woman in the world died in France recently at the age of one hundred thirteen. Perhaps she would have lived longer had she not started smoking at the age of eight and continued to do so until the day she died. So... good luck with your ranting and have a most pleasant evening.
Smokers are just weak minded individules trying to be somthing thier not (that's how they start) then they get addicted and do everything in their power to "prove" that they could stop anytime they want. It's amazing how they will do anything in their power to "protect" their drug pusher (Philliip More-Ass). And WOW yes one lady lived to be over a 100 that smoked! What about the other half million a year in the US alone that don't? And what about that quality of life? Sucks doesn't it?
Weak minded?? Trying to be something we are not??? I LOVE smoking, I truly enjoy it. I love my life and there is nothing I would change about it....except one thing....I would completely remove people like YOU from the Earth.
all the bull@!$%# about smoking is enough to make me puke, WHAT ABOUT ALCOHOL ? it kills more more innocent people a year than smoke, how do they start drinking, are they week, did they do it in school or is it because someone in the family drank themselves to death and it is a "disease" ? alcohol is worse than smoke any day, if I dont want to be around smoke, I LEAVE THE ROOM !!!!!, but if I am driving down the street I dont have the option of leaving the road before a DRUNK takes me and my family out,
anti smoking laws and those that push them can leave the earth any time now,
The world's drowning in Cocaine, Meth, heroine and pot. These clowns are working on tobacco. Why? Because tobacco users are law abiding and they don't kill 50,000-100,000 people a year.
Agreed. Tobacco users may not kill anyone (I can't believe I'm even partially agreeing with "proamerica's statement), but tobacco COMPANIES kill MILLIONS.
Make tobacco illegal and watch what happens. As an ex-smoker i can confirm that the switch to the black market would be a swift and easy one. As a sidenote I wonder if the additives agitate health risks; when American Spirits were still pure tobacco (late 90's?) they tasted great -the argument about additives being flavor enhancing doesn't make much sense.
My point is if I still smoked and it was made illegal i and many people I know would get cigs on the street without a second thought. Its unbelievably addictive and laws against it would inevitable create a black market demand.
My point is if I still smoked and it was made illegal i and many people I know would get cigs on the street without a second thought. Its [sic] unbelievably addictive and laws against it would inevitable [sic] create a black market demand.
That process you employed is called reasoning. The fact that you used to smoke was not required for you to use it (reasoning) effectively.
Make Cigarettes illegal? I love these people who whine and complain all day about the government staying out of their life, but as soon as someone-else does something they don't like, they want the government to produce laws to stop them. Sigh, self-righteous boneheads...
WHAT ??????? WORLD WIDE THEY ARE GOING TO WORRY ABOUT TOBACCO?
THAT'S BECAUSE THEY ARE SPENDING BILLIONS ON THE 'LOST' - LOST BEFORE IT STARTED 'WORLD WAR ON DRUGS' - AN INTERNATIONAL FARCE THAT BREEDS EXPENSIVE PRISON SYSTEMS! THEY WANT TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO THROW AWAY GI ZILLIONS

NOW ATTACKING TOBACCO - MORE VIGOROUSLY ? What is this about? TOBACCO PRODUCTS ARE THE HIGHEST TAXED ITEMS IN THE WORLD base on weight, size, weight, and type of product
ALL VERY LOOSING ISSUES!
The USA - world wide is 26th in math & 25th in English Grammar - OUR COUNTRY IS 3rd WORLD - and we are still going after the inane with the inane!

You were trying to make a point? Better start over, that is just rambling with no objective what so ever. And, what does tea bags have to do with the entire world being addicted to something?
I switched to additive-free tobacco a couple years ago and I find they give me far less congestion and I think they are better than those brands with the additives. I find the taste much better and have come to dislike the brands with additives far less. I think all tobacco companies should remove all the additives from all tobacco products. I think it's the additives that are so much more harmful than the tobacco alone.
Can they change to plant something else? Tobacco causemuch more money for just to taking care tobacco related diseases than the benefits of the grower/merchants.
EXCEPT: it really causes one deep pain to watch others (including one's family member) suffer from debilitating lung disease and all because they were addicted to the worthless substance. Send these execs to Guantanamo and throw away the key.
Some recent research has shown that developing cancer from smoking is due more to genetic disposition than the habit itself. Many people with record setting ages were smokers.
what i dont like there are people out there suing tobacco companies because they are being diagnosed with all kind of cancers because they smoke. well know one told them they had to smoke. i didnt put a cigarette in you're hand so it should be all on you. yes, i am a smoker. i chose to do so. so get over it.
You don't choose to smoke... YOU ARE addicted! You couldn't stop if you tried. I dare you to try for 3 months... OHHHHH.... just the thought sends chills down your spine doesn't it? Funny how the addicted always claim "I choose to do this... I enjoy this... I could stop any time I wanted"... LOL it's the same argument everytime... You're just an addicted drug addict!
SOOOOO, we are addicted before we CHOOSE to smoke the first cigarette???? Think about what you are typing before you open the flood gates of stupidity....
I see the ate up liver of an alcoholic, I watched as they died, what about alcoholics ? what about the family out on an evening drive that looses their lives to a drunk driver, I wish people like you would @!$%# off and live your life and stay out of mine,
you pick and choose whoes life you want to pick on, and its none of your business, and go ahead, throw in the cost of health care, alcoholics cost as much as smokers, and illegal drug cost more than cigarettes any day, and there are the fast food joints, FAT ASS, UNHEALTHY, ARTERY CLOGGING FOODS, just go away and eat another big mac and fries that are super sized, and bitch about me smoking a cigarette that doesnt even effect you, and if it does, LEAVE THE ROOM
And McDonald's isn't, let's tax the crap out of that and see what happens. Probably one good thing, all the lard A$$'es would have a coronary when they got a look at the new prices. And let's not forget to raise their insurance rates also.
Now, go tend your garden that's growing in PCB laced soil.
I'm just amazed that we allow (and people want) something like tobacco. After knowing what it does and stuff. I'm not a smoker so I don't understand that thrill of it. Well, I know government-wise it's all about money, but I can't believe we let tobacco keep going after knowing all the horrible things it can do to people. I know a lot of people that smoke and cough and feel like crap so I wonder why they even do it (knowing before starting they were going to feel like this). Oh well. I choose not to smoke and that's my choice so if people choose to smoke, that's their choice.
I just can't stand the people that bitch and complain when smoking is banned indoors and stuff. "I have a right to smoke" well I have a right to clean air and I think that trumps your bad air. You choose to smoke and smell bad you can do it outside. I can't have a beer on my lunch break at work, even one, because they don't want anyone with alcohol in their system here. So it's just the way it is.
And while we're on stupid smokers. I'm so sick and tired of smokers walking down the busy streets blowing their second hand smoke on me, my children and my dog! They just don't care and they through them on the ground and in the streets and even out of moving cars on the freeway...! They just don't care. They stink and have rotten breath and are always coughing up crap all over the place... When are they going to outlaw smoking around other innocent people? Why don't the smokers just hurry up and die of lung, heart and throat cancer already so we can be done with them!!!
when one smoker dies, 4 more young children start! look around you and see the young are still picking up the habit! maybe our state can sue again to help collect some more death money.
Way to look at freedom and personal choice rationally, seattleeye. I guess Seattle should get rid of cars. All that pollution also cause lung cancer. Do you suggest we get rid of all the "car addicts" too?

I worked a Haunted House last month and had to sweep up a ton of butts all the time because people failed to see the cigarette ash tray stand things we have every couple feet right next to them in line. And I hate the flicking out the window thing - if your car has an ash tray - use it. Or put a cup or something in your car to put it in. "but, but, I don't want my car smelling like smoke?" Well, then don't smoke in your car.
I don't understand why people need to do all this to tobacco, I mean come on really? banning additives that make it taste better? It's a product used for taste! We should be focusing on real things here, not freaking smoking, people can make their own decisions. People who are so set on banning it are stupid. The world is drowning in stupid. . .
Obviously some people care about the health of others. You most certainly don't. Why don't we just make other drugs that are killing people just "taste" better so they'll consume MORE... Wait... McDonnald's is already doing it.
But REALLY? You think that smoking is just a simple decision. People decide to have to stand out in the cold in the middle of winter sucking down cigaretts like it's giving them oxygen to breath? Tobacco is not what law makers should be concerned with right now, or actually ever. There are too many other things more important going on in the world that need attention.
Ok. Smoking is bad. I started at 16 had the habit reinforced with "smoke breaks" and even free cigarettes with my c-rations in Vietnam. In tracing my family history I found that my first American decedent survived growing, selling and dealing in Tobacco, way back in St. Mary's City in the 1600's. (Guess I wouldn't be here if it weren't for tobacco.) Is it bad, yes. Are there ways to stop, yes. try this link you can still get your cigarette hit without the carcinogens and second hand smoke:

Let's see. Prohibition of alcohol worked out really well. Drug cartels are killing everyone in sight in Mexico. California wants to legalize pot.
Let's restrict those dirty tobacco smokers.
Good to see we're learning from experience.
Prohibition: Does not, and will never, work! Learn from History, people. That is why you were suppose to learn it in high school.
It would be good if people took the inititive to quit smoking tobacco, it kills.
any way you look at it , it is harmful, it's even harmful to those who don't smoke.
there's not one good thing about it. except others making a buck at the expense of the lives of others.
people get addicted to them, and i wish the tobacco didn't exist.
they're making ..a killing.. from them.. i've often thought, the governments are aiding people to kill themselves.
So don't smoke. Problem solved.

I was quite surprised at their finding. but, It's not McDonalds food making children Or adults obese.
World health officials debate new tobacco controls
********************
Why?
Oh, I get it. It's another way for all of these potentates to squeeze some money out of whomever (preferably the USA) to steal for themselves.
Actually tobacco kills more people them alcohol and drugs combined and should be be regulated, plus it is a nasty, gross and expensive habit.
I'm just amazed that we allow (and people want) something like tobacco. After knowing what it does and stuff. I'm not a smoker so I don't understand that thrill of it. they won't just that on their hands PAP.. if the tobacco is taken away, they'll all be in foul moods.

who knows what will happen then...........
altho when a smoker is incarcerated, they have no choice but to quit. it could very well, be being snuck in. so............

Tobacco is not what law makers should be concerned with right now, or actually ever. There are too many other things more important going on in the world that need attention.
the smoke that comes from your car
could that not be classed
as passive smokeing
or the chemicals you spread around your house
could that not effect your childrens breathing
or the chemicals in your fridge
that you feed to your kids
could that not effect their thinking
so could you please explian
why you complain
about something
that has no meaning
