Marriage is 'passe' to many. And most of us had forgotten about Will, and never knew who Kate was. But any of us like to see the spectacle that the mass media can turn anything into, and at least this is a kind of happy story. (Though it should be mentioned that the British taxpayer may not be as happy about it.)
Do we adore them? I'm so busy trying to keep a roof over my head that I don't seem to have the time to energy to really care about the British royals, let alone adore them.
Too busy to give a damn. They have no place in my life. They have no effect on what I do so they have no relevance. This is a non-story. This is the media trying to get our minds off of what is really going on in the world. I want to know why I should care, someone please tell me.
sorry OhMy999999, not all men want to be in William's shoes. Speaking for myself the only thing he has that I want is money, I would dread having to live under the microscope he does, where every move, no matter how insignificant, is scrutinized to death. Not my idea of fun. He can keep the limelight.
Women, absolutely yes they want to be in Kate's shoes. Why? because women love fairy tales, or at least what they think are fairy tales. It's women that are going to eat up the media blitz on this story. It's women that are going to scoop up the endless rags looking to make a killing on this 'story'. It's women that keep the gossip rags in business. Men couldn't care less.
"Hate to burst the ol' bubble, but "we" don't adore William & Kate anywhere near as much as the media would like to believe..."
I have adored William & Harry since I first saw them as babies. I also think Kate is a beautiful young lady.
I am happy for this young couple and I do look forward to hearing about their wedding plans and watching this wedding on TV. I wish them all the best as I do other young couples who want to start their lives together.
To those who do not wish to hear about or to watch this wedding...you have other options to choose from without seeing or hearing about it.
Because marriage is not passe', maybe? We've got 31 years invested in it, it is working for us, and we're not British royalty, either. Good luck and best wishes to Will and Kate. I'd bet they would be a happy couple even with a simple courthouse wedding.
With unilateral divorce, in which one spouse can force the other into divorce without any justification or reason for the split, marriage doesn't really exist. The best thing for marriage would be to tighten up divorce laws.
Yeah I only clicked this article for the "what the hell???" factor in the headline. I don't know anyone who thinks marriage is "passé" or who adores Will & Kate. I didn't even know who those 2 were before this week. I thought it was really weird seeing some other headline stating they were using Princess Diana's ring.
Marriage should be a life binding agreement only made after each person has made sure they have finished their "fooling around" or single life. I personally think society should wait until they're near 30 before even thinking about it. Anyone in long term relationships or who has been divorced can tell you that you don't REALLY know a person for at least a year or 2 of being together anyway.
The numbers of people getting married right out of school then divorced shortly afterwards leaving kids with split parents is just diminishes the value for people around those cases a little more every time it happens.
First of all William is Princess Di's first born, why shouldn't he give her ring to his wife, and secondly they have been together for over 8 years (since college) and both of them at 28 years old. So your rant about being "close to 30" or together for more than two years is DUMB!!!
uranidiot-1942934... Thank you. I agree. The only thing I wish to add is IMO " Whenever I have no interest in a story or if I feel it is a useless news piece ,,, I never waste my time to read it, let alone comment on it "
I am so glad I am not the only person that caught this. I came here only because of the ridiculous headline.
My view on marriage, been there done that there will not be a sequel.
Will & Kate, like they are close personal friends of us all. Why on earth would we care let alone "adore" this couple? Aside from the headlines about their engagement I haven't been in a discussion where these two were brought up. I would think that if the public adored them so we would all be talking about this every chance we got, right?
I am seriously considering dropping msnbc as a news source because these stories are just getting out of hand.
The goal was accomplished though, another BS headline on MSNBC to get the people that normally would not read the story to read the story. The problem, they shouldn't need smoke and mirrors to get people to read.
Hal - when I saw the "Will and Kate" bit I also thought it was a new reality tv series, which is one of the few things I could claim to be more ambivolant about than the happenings of British royalty.
Same thing here. Thought, what another sit-com or reality show. Who cares about marriage? If folks want to marry they should and if not---not. Having never tried marriage---but not for wont of trying---can't say if I'd like it. Been involved with same person 25 years and she and I are both happy, why spoil a wonderful relationship with marriage.
All the best to them. And to that Neanderthal who wants to restrict divorce, guess he thinks women should be kept bare-foot and pregnant. Those religious types are the worst, want women to be subservient and bow and scrape or they are beaten. Nice Christian thing to do.
Personally I think the fact that the head line read "Will and Kate" is rude....I'm not British so it really does not effect MY life but he is PRINCE WILLIAM and americans have been infatuated with him since the day he was born, our reporters need to have a little more respect!
Are we talking about the same nation who so wanted to be free of royalty back in 1776? If I live forever I doubt I will ever understand why this country is so fascinated with British "royalty". How can the ability to lead and govern be a birthright?
I blame Hollywood for romanticizing the crap out of it. Oh look...a princess! Bah. Looks like a snobby elitist who still believes in "royal blood" and other crap like that to me. They can all stayin their castles & fly around on rugs while kissing frogs and eating cake all they want, just don't expect me to be impressed.
They do that for so many subjects. Even Hallmark cards always show these cute innocent looking angels. The Bible itself never mentions angels without words like "fear" or mentioning how ferocious and strong they are. The only "beauty" ever mentioned is the voices. Believing in them is another subject, I just bring it up as another "rewrite" of things for entertainment purposes.
we are enraptured with their engagement? Here you have an example of someone who cannot tell the difference between the media blitz telling us what is wonderful and reality.
In reality we don't give a crap about thier engagment it's jsut another story the media has decided to put up as an excuse for something to read.
PEOPLE:JUST BECAUSE IT'S IN THE NEWS DOESN'T MEAN IT'S TRUE OR RELEVANT
I check most of the major media outlets. It's mostly the liberal leaning ones running these stories. There isn't a single story about it on the Fox News front page.
What is funny is that Fox News is running a story on the Democrat Senator that wants to shut down MSNBC and Fox News both and I don't even see it here.
A powerful Democratic senator(Jay Rockefeller), pointing the finger at cable news for a politically toxic climate in Washington, unleashed a stunning tirade in which he expressed his desire to see the Federal Communications Commission shut down Fox News and MSNBC.
Funny, I read both and I see stinky feces on both sides. What's wrong is the # of people who refuse to read one, assume (incorrectly) what the other "thinks" without reading their stories, and believe whatever they see on the other.
I must agree with Christine-1902719; "we" don't "adore" Will & Kate as much as "you" would like to think "we" do.
They are an entertainment curiosity, and not much more. I've never paid attention to him at all and I'd never even heard of her before the grand announcement. So I'm not in a position to "adore" either one of them. But I hope they'll be happy.
We DON"T!!!!!!! It is the media filling up the front pages with this crap to take up space. I didn't even read this article - I only clicked on it so I could scroll down and leave this message to stop wasting space with this crap!
Who is 'we'? It don't include me. And that 40% that thinks marriage is obsolete is probably the same group that needs the government to look out for them because they aren't capable of looking out for their own best interests.
You can at least include all of the mothers that gave birth out of wedlock. Apparently, they did not need a marriage for the best interests of their children. 40% of US births are out of wedlock.
The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that "Probably, 40 or possibly even 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce if current trends continue.", which is actually a projection.
Gee, how ironic the #s match up. In other words, around 40% rushed into marriage with someone before they knew what they were getting into. Bad choices in partners keeps leading geniouses to make statements like "all men|women suck". They never think that they're the common denominator in all those failed relationships. Blaming marriage for their misuse of it is just dumb. My parents have been happily married since '71.
Its not the people its the main stream media stupid. The media will be force feeding the American public with this slushy event for the next year or so. The majority of Americans, white, black, brown and yellow could care less about these stuffy people that look weird with bad teeth.
I don't believe "we" are. I believe NBC is since that's been the bulk of their news ad nauseum. Actually, if they've been living as man and wife for 9 years, what's the point?
People adore them because they are rich and that has some sort of hypnotic power over people to lose any sense of reason. It's the same thing that has people drawn to Cruise and his current wife, Jessica and whomever she's marrying, the people with 8 kids...pretty much everyone on TV that has had a child, gotten married...breathed in and out - people are drawn to it all like flies to sh!t.
We as a nation (generally speaking) have simply lost our minds to the celebrity antics and it's almost scary how much time/energy people are willing to spend to read about them, watch them, and be like them.
I do hope that people will re-learn that there is a life above and beyond "celebrities" and that maybe...just maybe, then there will be a sense of order about things...when people STOP buying every magazine and tabloid to catch up on the latest "facts", stop reading about magazines paying millions to get a picture of the newest baby born to a celeb, and stop putting them on some sort of pedestal.
They're just people...and in the days long ago, they would be the court jester purposed to amuse the people with their antics and nothing more.
The American public isn't as enamored with "Kate & Willie" as the media seems to be. NBC had an hour long special "Dateline" on the couple last night. What's the big rush? This man won't be "king" for another 20 years probably, at least. Hopefully, the marriage will last that long. Regardless, it's all immaterial to the majority of Americans.
Marriage is 'passe' to many. And most of us had forgotten about Will, and never knew who Kate was. But any of us like to see the spectacle that the mass media can turn anything into, and at least this is a kind of happy story. Why do we adore them?
Because all women want to be in Kate's shoes.
And all men want to be in William's shoes.

"Hate to burst the ol' bubble, but "we" don't adore William & Kate anywhere near as much as the media would like to believe..."
right you are buddy!
A better question is "if marriage is passe, why does gay marriage consistently make front page news"?
I have adored William & Harry since I first saw them as babies. I also think Kate is a beautiful young lady.
I am happy for this young couple and I do look forward to hearing about their wedding plans and watching this wedding on TV. I wish them all the best as I do other young couples who want to start their lives together.
To those who do not wish to hear about or to watch this wedding...you have other options to choose from without seeing or hearing about it.
DadooS.... Very well said.
I had no idea who either of these people were honestly, and I still don't give a damn.
Because marriage is not passe', maybe? We've got 31 years invested in it, it is working for us, and we're not British royalty, either. Good luck and best wishes to Will and Kate. I'd bet they would be a happy couple even with a simple courthouse wedding.

Yes. And the ensuing 200% increase in cases of domestic abuse and adultery would just be awesome too.
What do you mean, 'we,' Kemosloby.
The only people making any noise about this is the media. I don't know any normal person who could care either way...including myself.
Ditto.
Besides, they are already living together.
ROYAL FORNICATORS!!!
>:(

Who is we? and who the hell is Will and Kate?
Will and Kate?
At first I thought it was a new TV series.
Honest.
I am so glad I am not the only person that caught this. I came here only because of the ridiculous headline.

@ mad2002mad---- "nice Christian thing to do"?? The Bible teaches us to love and respect our wives like our own bodies....Do we beat ourselves up???
Eph. 5: 28 & 29
Once again someone can't tell the difference between Christ and Islam.
Are we talking about the same nation who so wanted to be free of royalty back in 1776? If I live forever I doubt I will ever understand why this country is so fascinated with British "royalty". How can the ability to lead and govern be a birthright?
That is just a British concept. Americans cant comprehend because it's complete garbage to be honest.
I blame Hollywood for romanticizing the crap out of it. Oh look...a princess! Bah. Looks like a snobby elitist who still believes in "royal blood" and other crap like that to me. If marriage is passé, why do we adore Will and Kate? We don't so get over it....
pretty simple why they care ... they live in fantasy land watching idol , dancing , etc ...
We DON"T!!!!!!! It is the media filling up the front pages with this crap to take up space. I didn't even read this article - I only clicked on it so I could scroll down and leave this message to stop wasting space with this crap!
My thoughts exactly Frank.
Who cares?
.
Adore Will and Kate? The media trying too hard to create news. Move along, nothing to see here.
Who is 'we'? It don't include me. And that 40% that thinks marriage is obsolete is probably the same group that needs the government to look out for them because they aren't capable of looking out for their own best interests.

We dont
Its not the people its the main stream media stupid. The media will be force feeding the American public with this slushy event for the next year or so. The majority of Americans, white, black, brown and yellow could care less about these stuffy people that look weird with bad teeth.
At least it gets them to stop talking about O.J., Michael Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, & Tiger Woods for awhile.
Who says "we" adore them? I dont, and dont care if they get married, when they get married, etc.
I thought the Queen was broke? Bet they cough up plenty for this over the top extravaganza. Ridiculous!
Because humans have propensity to enjoy a good train wreck to which this will be one of.
I don't believe "we" are. I believe NBC is since that's been the bulk of their news ad nauseum. Actually, if they've been living as man and wife for 9 years, what's the point?
We is not me. The media always puts words in others mouths. Take the We out of Me and you have nothing.
I could give a rats ass about these two getting hitched!!

No body ever said marriage was passe except the writer of this article. Who the hell are Will and Kate?
The American public isn't as enamored with "Kate & Willie" as the media seems to be. NBC had an hour long special "Dateline" on the couple last night. What's the big rush? These stories are helping to keep media people gainfully employed. You don't have to like them, just read them.
I (not "We") would slap him and show her my "adoration."
It's become passe' because it's become so easy to get out of.
