i will take the gorgeous boy! i lost my beautiful chocolate lab Sienna a year ago this week at 11 years old from pancreatic cancer. i miss her every day. she was loved, cherished, spoiled and a wonderful companion.

i hope this baby finds a wonderful home and is hugged every single day for the rest of his life.

Here we go again! Just because someone has empathy for an puppy who was tortured does not mean they have no empathy for human life. I have already said this, but I'll say it again. This is not the place for your anti-abortion agenda. Do you turn every discussion into this? I think everyone can agree that what was done to this puppy was horrible. Not everyone feels the same way about abortion as you do. I do not think badly of you for your opinion, just take it somewhere else.

I would be more than happy to volunteer my services to make an example of this son of a bitch, male or female. I am more than capable of doing things to this person(s) that I guarantee will make every one of their future generations weep for them! They would be left alive and have to live with the scars issued to them, they would be unable to escape them, ever! They would be left praying for death! Just as this puppy was left at a bottom of a dumpster waiting for death this person would experience the same.

I am as cold as a day is long but when I hear about abuse to those that are unable to defend themselves; animals, children, and the elderly, something just snaps.

There is nowhere in my post where I deny punishment for animal abusers. Of course, should the culprit is found, they should be tried under rule of law. If found guilty, they must be punished. That's the law. But they shall never be found, for they are cowards, and their victims are mute.

Hate has no place in society or in law. Yours is a country of laws, codes, and rules. And justice is blind. Hate is a sin, and in some cases, a crime in and of itself.

Penalties in this country for animal abuse is a joke, they would think twice if the punishment would be harder and they actually had to go to jail. We need better protection for those that cannot speak! I just hope I never witness anything like this, I'll forget myself!

I am a long-time animal rescuer, too. Over the years I have seen it all...believe me. Legs cut off, tongues cut out, eyes gouged out. I've seen puppies and kittens that have been torn apart after they have been used as bait animals. I have seen animals that have been "euthanized" using heart sticks. And I even know of a sheriff that disposes of stray dogs by rounding them up, holding them down, and shooting them. To this day I am horrified by what many people are capable of.

In my area, a few years ago, we had a similar crime as the puppy in this story. A homeowner was at work, and left the sliding door slightly open for their dog to go in and out during the day. While the homeonwer was at work, someone came into the yard, and cut off their dog's ears. The neighbors said they heard yelping, but never found the source. The homeowner came home later and found their dog had bled to death. The police thought that it had been a witchcraft ritual. They never caught the people who commited this terrible crime.

I still cannot imagine a a more awful death for a beloved pet. And I cannot imagine the horrifying sight of coming home to find my dog dead, with blood everywhere and no ears. In fact, it makes me tear up just thinking about it. And whoever did that, will most certainly do it again, whether it's to children, or to a spouse. And you can rest assured, that person may very well murder someone, just for the thrill of doing so.

And THANK GOD for Sunny's foster home. I trust she will be one pampered pooch. I fully expect it won't be long before she'll have her forever home, and will live in the lap of luxury for the rest of her life.

We have a dog that was rescued by my daughter. Like Sunny, her ears were cropped; chopped is a better word. Apparently, someone had used scissors to cut her ears which were thoroughly healed by the time she was found. At first look, I thought she looked pretty ugly but now that she has been with us for 3 months, we don't even notice anymore. We now think her ears are cute. The staff at the vet's office called her beautiful!

I just cannot understand why someone would do that; could even have the stomach for it. Just plain sick.

I explained how wonderful they were and how loving they could be with "weaker" members of the household. She then related a story about her four year old granddaughter who wanted to "reshape" the dog's ears. She heard a terrible scream from the dog and ran to see what the problem was. There was her granddaughter with scissors trying to cut the dog's ear. The dog did nothing to retaliate or harm the child. I think that scenario should have answered any questions right then and there.

I'm Praying for a good, loving family for this dog, as well. Animals are wonderful.

Seeing as the child was four, it is probably more likely that they saw the dog ears as hair, not meaning to harm the dog maliciously.

My guess is that this four year old is not sick or demented, nor does she need therapy. I would guess that she goes to someone with scissors to get her hair 'reshaped.' She thought that her dog's ears being covered with hair could be reshapen also.

That is why dogs will ALWAYS be better than children.

Sorry - problem there is not the kid, but the grandparent who 1 - left the child unattended long enough for this 'scenario' to occur, and 2 - left the scissors in such a place where said child had easy access to them. Way to go Grams!!! Jack@$$!

The essence of communication is intention. My son, when he was 10 years of age, said something (I don't even remember now) to me and I followed him to his room, chewing him out about his poor use of english...he let me rant, and when I ran down, he calmly asked me if I knew what he meant. I learned a great lesson from that little boy. BTW: I am sure you grammer police will find errors in this post, please forgive me, I don't do so good now that I am old.

Doxie, I agree with everything you said. So many people do not think about how their food gets to their plate. It is a very cruel and awful process. The animals usually live in complete darkness, are shot up with drugs, have their babies taken away immediately and then go thru botched slaughters where they feel excruciating pain and hear the deaths of their fellow animals all around. I'm sure I will get tons of backlash for my view but when will people think about the "process" of getting meat?

Many people would not eat meat if they could see how the slaughterhouses are run and they get that smell of death up their noses that doesn't go away for days.

This whole system needs to be improved and a better one put in place to insure the animal feels no pain.

bklynj, the system is slowly improving, with head gates to hold the animals still so the bolts don't miss. As for the sickos who get off on killing the animals and deliberately miss: this is where the boss needs to be trained and on the job and fire anyone who pulls that crap. Even a food animal deserves respect - and gratitude for the sacrifice of its life that others might eat.

And I thought I was different, I have no children of my own so beleive me they do give love, Labs and other breeds as well. I have a red nose Pit, she showed up at my door one night, I took her in and I must say she is the best Dog I ever had, God does have plans for every living thing. At the same token he didn't have any control over this poor puppy being tortured.
