and Greg - AIDS isn't just a gay disease. Straights get it too. Straights also can't put a wrapper on it and keep spreading herpes and syphilis. Repealing DADT isn't permission to just go bang each other on the base - that is not allowed between any sexes at any time. It's just giving a man, for example, the right to say "My boyfriend and I visited France a few years ago" which they are not currently allowed to say in regular conversation for fear of being kicked out. You can even classify it as an infringement on the 1st amendment.

At the least, Gays in the military pose a security risk. Concealing any type of personal secrets be it lifestyle, financial, or sexual preference, under the right conditions can be used against any individual in the service. The higher up the food chain, the greater the liability. The DADT policy advocates keeping secrets. If it's not a secret any longer, then morale among heterosexuals must be considered. Frankly, I don't think the military is the place for anyone that could be considered a liability or security risk. And I don't think the military should be used as a test bed and barometer for social issues.

But the military has historically been the "test bed and barometer for social issues." They dealt with racial and gender integration and showed that they were non-issues. This is just another. And based on the Pentagon's report (y'know, the funny shaped building that RUNS the military) there is no reason to think it will affect morale.

As an aside, what exactly do you think the "gay lifestyle" is? I promise, aside from having sex a little differently, it is exactly as boring as your lifestyle. Get over yourself.

ubs, The Liberal mindset is to champion the rights of one person over the rights of millions. Liberals go out of their way to deem one thing or another unconstitutional. The American Criminal Liars Union fought to abolish curfew for minors, so now minors can roam the streets and tag private property until dawn because they have rights. Any wonder why Johnny can't read? The lefties are behind the repeal of DADT because Gays have rights too. What about the rights of straight military personnel? Having rights isn't always right when one person can dictate to millions. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be. Liberals are pushing their agenda in all walks of life and shoving it down our throats. What happened to the majority used to be a valid question. My rights and the rights of millions of drivers for example are secondary to the rights of one guy on a bike. I think that if heterosexuals in the military choose to resign in protest, more power to them. Being in the military is no picnic, why should they be afraid of not being P.C. enough with other soldier while pinned down in a fox hole? I'm tired of being told what I can and can't say to anyone. I'm an adult now, I know what's acceptable to say and what isn't. I don't need the MOPML (Malevolent Order for the Protection of Myopic Liberals) to tell me what I already know.

Yes, but the key word here is potentially. Just as some recruits are potentially uncomfortable serving with women or blacks. They have the choice to sign up; it is still a volunteer military. There are still bigots serving in the military. They don't get to say "I won't do my duty if I have to do it with THAT person." They shut up and do as they're told. I think that DADT should be repealed, they should have a one-time chance to get out of service, and after that they should shut up.
