You are so right!! After some serious health issues, my husband became extremely depressed. He went from the life of the party to a diagnosis of "antisocial" which most of our friends found quite funny.
It was not funny! He not takes 3 drugs which cost $525.00 a month. Our insurance pays 50%. That is only the beginning, for the other conditions we end up with $2,500 a month in prescription bills. How do we pay them, I am driving a 16 year old car with 250,000 miles on it. I work every day, at a good job, and haven't had a dollar for a luxury in years, but I still have him.
Unfortunately, it is called "Corporate Greed", "Corporate Slavery", "Corporate Elite Benefits", and "Corporate Judicial System for the Elite". They could care less about the workers, except that they show up for work spending long hours at work.
There is nothing funny about depression. After all this time you'd think people would be at least somewhat educated about it! Unfortunately, I know many people who cannot afford talk therapy; it is expensive, and insurances do not always cover it. That, on top of meds...well... Let's just say it's no mystery to me why people aren't getting the care they need. There's also the cultural thing of having to be strong or macho, the stigma of mental illness, and religious people telling other religious people they have to just rely on faith (I'm REALLY sick of that one! And I'm a "person of faith.")
When you go for therapy or counseling you will be on record as depressed and find that you are no longer insurable for life or long term disability insurance. It will only become worse as the medical records are centralized, computerized, and placed in the governments hands (just like the governments diplomatic files)
Insurance companies won't be able to omit these patients. If they were covered when the depression was found, all they need is a letter from that insurer when the patient leaves describing it as not pre-existing. With this, then insurers are screwed. God, it's great to say that... they are screwed. I HATE insurance companies. Big ripoffs.
You guys should stop complaining because, one the health care we have now isnt as good as it was supposed to be. also the law has just been signed so give it some time. so if u want to say u have the right to choose tell that to ur congress men or state official. If you do not have insurance and need one You can find full medical coverage at the lowest price check http://ow.ly/3akSX .If you have health insurance and do not care about cost just be happy about it and trust me you are not going to loose anything!
There is a strong link between vitamin D deficiency and depression. Researchers have confirmed this in several recent studies and a relationship between falling vitamin D levels, especially in the grey months October-March, means many people will develop symptoms.
To maintain vitamin D health supplement to raise circulating levels to a range of 50-80 ng/ml. Bear in mind the oft cited level of sufficiency, 30 ng/ml, does not achieve a state of vitamin D repletion and is therefore insufficient. If you are not already supplementing vitamin D then you will be deficient, or at the least insufficient in circulating amounts, no question.
Vitamin D comes in two forms: Vitamin D3- the natural occurring molecule and vitamin D2, the artificial form available in an expensive prescription from your doctor. Vitamin D3 is the only type that should be supplemented and is cheap and available over the counter in any store.
Vitamin D3 is a steroid hormone, not a vitamin. It has links to every cell in the human body and is now recognized as the master key to the human genome, as well as the key to immunity and reduced cellular aging. Educate yourself about its deficiency and see the links to early onset chronic diseases. Also vitamin D3 is the human body's natural antiviral, antibiotic. As the flu season approaches note that those with healthy levels of circulating vitamin D will get fewer, if any, colds and flu.
Too often people are misdiagnosed with depression, especially in the U.S.A. where prescription drugs is such a huge industry. I thought I was depressed but made some lifestyle and mental adjustments and have never been happier
There are actually reasons for "misdiagnosis", not the least of which is a diagnosis being required in the first 30 minutes of speaking to a patient. In any case, to assume the psychologists/psychiatrists are in league with pharma is a drastic misconception. I am very happy you were able to make lifestyle changes, however no psychiatrist intends for you to take medication (if needed) without doing so in conjunction with actual therapy. Just like cigarette companies require a surgeon general warning, so too do pharmaceuticals for mental health come with a "take under doctor supervision" label. The difference is the latter is a warning of what you SHOULD do, not what you shouldn't do.
Weak? Of course it is. This is pharma's fault.
Still, you can go right to the psychological literature and see for yourself... there IS no medication that is MOST effective without therapy. People aren't meant to be medicated and forgotten... they are meant to take medication (if applicable/helpful) in conjunction with therapy (the pitiful disclaimer 'take under doctor supervision' is supposed to mean take in conjunction with therapy). Therapy would have assisted with what you describe as lifestyle and mental adjustments.
Im sure the panacia now for depression will be being on line ...the next study will say those who stare at the pixels ofr a computer screen suffer from less depression...That and Big pharma now handing out Seroquel to go with anti depressants of the SSRI nature...Nice..Think Seroquel like about 500 bucks for a typical months supply...CHA CHING
I believe that alot of people are not getting the mental care that they need through therpy is because even IF they have health insurance..and that is IF....they still cannot afford the Co-pays..and even then finding a GOOD doctor is another problem, there are to many Quacks out there to count, all willing to take your money, the truth is Most people cannot afford to be Depressed.
Is there an inherent emptiness in your life which simply will not go away? You can keep it from awareness for a time. You can distract yourself but it always comes back.
Do you feel that you are spending your whole life just barely getting by? You may look OK from the outside. Are you hiding it? Do you yearn to touch life more fully?
You pursue a good job. You fall in love. You win the game. You say to yourself, “OK, now I’ve made it; now I will be happy”. But that quickly fades and is replaced by a vague awareness that something is wrong.
Another realm of depth and sensitivity is available in life. You are just not seeing it. You feel cut off.
What is wrong with you?. You’re tense, you lack of compassion for others, your feelings are being blocked. We built a whole culture around hiding from it, We distract ourselves from it with goals, projects and status. “Better, more.” The same theme is then repeated: jealousy, suffering, discontent and stress.
You can learn to control your mind, to step outside of this endless cycle of desire and aversion. You can learn to not want what you want, to recognize desires but not be controlled by them.
The overdeveloped the material aspect of existence can fade and be replaced by a deeper emotional and spiritual aspect. The place to start is within ourselves. It can occur in a single instant.http://mindfulminute.wordpress.com/
How can they afford it without work?
