Sadgie, tell me how a person who lives in a country can live a comfortable life when they get absolutely
no support from their gov't because the gov't pockets the money
no jobs available because the gov't don't care to make some for the people
lives in a 1-2 room house with no electricity or running water, a couple of buckets, pots and pans, a chair or two, one bed, no windows, etc..
no food to the point some are eating dirt cakes
sells what they can find to make some kind of money
Now let's throw in an earthquake and cholera
this person has lost there home and very little possessions
no lives in a tarp tent
family members crushed in the earthquake
family members dying of cholera
etc...
So yes, they have been "sitting on their butts" waiting for a "handout" just because they have nothing else.
What don't you get? If you do not have anything because the gov't is corrupt and taking your money, what are you to do?
it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Judging by your ignorance, I can make a lot of assumptions about who you are and how little you are aware of the world around you. But that will only spread ignorance, not solve it. Next time you decide to "spread your wisdom" do a little research into the matter at hand. There is nothing worse than a fool who wants to spread his/her ideas. It's unfair to people who have something intelligent to say
The evidence indicating that Haiti's ongoing cholera epidemic was introduced to the area by the U.N.'s Nepalese troops is strong and compelling. This evidence has been cited in numerous articles posted on msnbc.com as well as elsewhere. The basic evidence is:
1) Haiti has never experienced a cholera outbreak before.
2) The strain of cholera currently in Haiti has never before been seen in Haiti.
3) The strain of cholera is common in Nepal.
4) The Nepalese troops were not fully tested for cholera if they showed no outward signs of having the disease.
5) A person can carry this strain of cholera without showing outward signs of the infection.
6) The epidemic in Haiti began only after the arrival of Nepalese troops.
7) The epidemic in Haiti originated (geographically speaking) downstream from the complex in which the Nepalese troops were housed.
8) Haitians had complained about the foul and unsanitary sewage output from that complex.
Further investigation will show that the health organizations which supplied the U.N troops neglected to take prudent steps to assure that there would be no transmission of 'outside' diseases into Haiti, where it was already known that sanitation would be problematical because of damage caused by the earthquake.
A conclusion that could only be made by a Frenchman--the same way the French courts decided it was 100% Continental's fault for the crash of the Concorde some years ago (despite the 10-year knowledge of metal weaknesses in that aircraft's design). But that's OK; it'll give the Haitians yet another reason to riot.
Sounds like the UN Troops have been pooping upstream. UN can't do anything right anyway. I wish the US would disassociate itself from the UN. Whatever the US does can be by themselves or not at all. Don't have to pay the UN anything then.
BMette, Your reasoning is flawed. First of all the records only go back to mid20th century. Second your first point conflicts with the second and if there has never been an outbreak ever how would that strain have been seen in Haiti anyways. that comment is irrelevant if you believe your points anyways. The third point is that that strain of cholera is common in Nepal is true but skewed. it is more common in North and South America. So your reasoning is again flawed. The fourth point stated it began only after the arrival of the Nepalese troops. Well again this is flawed too for it arrived after the CURRENT rotation of Nepalese troops. The Nepalese have been there before. Lastly the Haitians werent the first to complain about the foul odor it was the Nepalese who complained. Where do you get your facts? The Haitians doing the witchhunt? I believe this to be true. Do a bit more research and you can help prevent panic. The UN have stringent regulations about sanitary facilities near drainage systems and rely on in-country contractors to do the final disposal after it has been treated. Some burn it some bury it and some anrent too fussy what they do with it. The contractors are Hatian citizens and by the UN mandate the contracts must go to local residents. The UN excels in waste water treatment and is led by Canada in this field, they for example can turn a glass of disease infested pond water into Perrier.
Where is this strong evidence. I read every thing I could about this and guess what it is just their theory?
Been to Haiti have you?

Seriously, let's hear your solution.

Here is a short list of "just theories"
1. Gravity
2. Evolution
3. Plate Tectonics
4. General Relativity
Are you prepared to argue against those too? Just wondering

Thank you BMette for the explanation. Now maybe some of these will stop blaming the victims. God Bless
Yeah..... This ****Hole of a country had nothing to doi with this. The 3 largest Industries in Haiti are;
1. UNITED NATIONS FUNDING
2. FUNDING FROM USA
3. DONATIONS FROM USA...and Sean Penn.
In the words of an Afro American Minister when referring to 9-11.....
"THE CHICKENS HAVE COOOOME TO ROOST" in Haiti
Darwin is very busy in Haiti now.
Wow, so the Haitans were correct when they said the UN was responsible. I thought they were hallucinating at the time.

I guess we won't send any help next time
U.N. should have to review the policy whenever they are going to send anyone to other nation.
U.N. peacekeepers may be perhaps receiving some basin screenings and immunizations, especially if the peacekeepers are from tropical areas...
It is time to improve and to fix the problems, from purifing water, promoting personal hygiene, taking antibiotics, keeping hydration...

That country is a disease all of it's own.
The United Nations continues its stellar record of making things worse by their intervention.
