Or, to really solve all the health problems smoking causes we could just ban cigarettes and solve the whole problem. Of course, the politicians would never go for it because of the tax money they reap from the tobacco companies and smokers, not to mention how much the senators and representatives skim in the form of bribes from the tobacco lobbyists, but a guy can dream...
Not funny, Johnny- Desperate. Addicted to the point I don't know if I'll ever successfully quit for good. I'm scared of what I'm doing to myself (16+yrs), I'm scared of the mess I may make for my family.
I'm addicted. Scared for my health/life. Scared for the welfare of my family. Unable (thus far) to stay quit. Even having used lozenges, patches, wellbutrin, zyban, chantix.
It's too hard for me... I'm not a usually law breaking individual though, so banning the stinkin things would help me out a LOT.
A ban on smoking would cause riots, that's why tobacco is not illegal. It's just plain an unwise move. And the chaos would be even worse if the ban was on all nicotine products.
Why not ban all potentially addictive chemicals like caffeine too?
And this is supposed to be a free country. Why does the government have to play God over people. Besides the science against is flawed. What it leaves out is the possibility people will mutate and develop bodies that consume gases as a nutrient. We could experiment on tobacco smokers for future space exploration, if we find a planet that has oxygen but it has alot of smoke using genetics we force adaptation.
I see people in their 90's that still smoke tobacco. Which makes me question is the real issuse how much they are smoking? Everything in moderation!
Then there is the issue of tobacco becoming the new subculture drug. As the price goes up thanks to Big Brother crime families see $$$. More people will smoke to be part of the in crowd.
I conjur up images of Davie Crockett and Daniel Boone types hunting and fighting in the forests, spending all the day and into the night hiking, running and climbing, and then while sitting around a campfire with his comrades, after a meal of fresh deer or turkey, a nip on the ol' jug and pass the corncob pipe around full of fresh all natural tobacco. The sharing is a very spiritual experience. Brothers of the Band possibly singing and someone playing a harmonica they know tomorrow they migh all die by the hands of the enemy or get killed by a bear or mountain lion. They know life is fragile and temporary and godliness in this petty sharing is worth the fear of cancers slow death more than a million trips to a health spa. We were men and the government didn't turn us into something lower than children.
Armageddon is right around the corner. All your diet and exercise , no smoking won't do you a bit of good. Millions will die fighting many time over for freedoms of a variety. You who call yourselve men of God took it upon yourselves to set yourself up as overseers for all men. Oh you'll justify it all for the children. But remember all children grow into adults and they will remeber how you worked so hard to create what Hitler all along sought, the super-race of men , perfect muscles and brains that are good for colleges and government service, but when they can't find a job they whine and take minimum wage positions because they don't have common sense enough to open a simple small business. Like the song "Country Boy Can Survive" well see healthy smokers persecuted by the government and taxed like dogs with belief that it's OK to force people against their will. Punish and destory those that defy the government, but country will survive and when the end comes they will keep smoking a little and hunting/fishing whileyou healthy nonsmokers in the city starve and kill yourselves off for want of meal.
Well, we don't let people do heroin, coke, crack, meth, weed, etc... we regulate opioid prescriptions. Heck, we even regulate COUGH MEDICINE that is over the counter.
I'm in favor of a ban on cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Either BAN it or make the other drugs mentioned perfectly legal.

I'm a smoker and I'm all for a ban on nicotine products. There is NO decent use for smoking or smokeless tobacco products.
That's funny opponent...you're a smoker.

How come smoking cessation programs are not funded by all the taxes on tobacco?
Meanwhile, most of the tobacco taxes are going for things completely unrelated.
