"The products include Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews and Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews. The company says the materials were potentially introduced into the products during the manufacturing process at an outside manufacturer."

Sure send your manufacturing offshore where you don't have to be concerned about quality control. What the heck its only the American consumer that you are jerking around. No more Rolaids for this old man!
"outside manufacturer" does not mean offshore. It means "not at a J&J owned facility". J&J hardly has any facilities that it owns and operates, so it's not much of a surprise.
As for not having to be concerned with quality control, ALL third party manufacturers must abide by the rules and regs (including quality) of J&J. They're even more restrictive on third party companies than they are on themselves (see the PA plant that they owned that was shut down this year).
So please stop ASSUMING that they're offshore and they're not abiding by quality regs, because it's simply not true. This recall just proves that they're taking product quality seriously (would you rather they not recall product and leave adulterated product on the market?).
Honestly, your ideas about everything being sent to China are incorrect. There are PLENTY of U.S. manufacturers making products for J&J and other companies.
It's funny how most people are assuming the plant was overseas. An "outside manufacturer" can be right here in the USA, folks. There's a network of companies here in the States making product for J&J. When you assume...
penguin, I know when you assume you make an ass/u/me...I was just guessing, because they do have companies overseas doing some work for them. Odds 50/50
While that's true, we cannot just jump to conclusions and assign blame to unknown entities. You would be surprised that most of their 3rd party manufacturers are U.S. businesses.
My question, who is "an outside manufacturer", China? If so, get the hell out of China and any other foreign countries to us. We need to protect ourselves and let the others protect themselves.
As stated above, "outside manufacturer" does NOT mean "outside the U.S.". It simply means that a non-J&J-owned plant made the product. J&J had oversight of the manufacturer and the product (both of which have to abide by all J&J specifications), and thus the recall because the company didn't produce the product accordingly.
As for China, you buy products made in China every day. I love how the very same people that say "get out of China" are the very same people going to Wal*Mart to buy cheap goods made in China, thus perpetuating the advantage China has over the U.S. in production costs.
It seems like every time I read something about Johnson and Johnson it is about another Rolaids Recall. Rolaids has a long history and strong brand recognition, but how many more Rolaids recalls can we see? At some point the brand is going to be damaged forever. I even saw a website the other day devoted to Rolaids Recall information - The definition of "Recall" is now becoming Johnson & Johnson Rolaids. How many more Rolaids Recall do you think we will see?
Those "soft chews" don't sound so soft! LOL!

Explain that to China!!

thats right send prodution overseas jerkoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on folks, they were just trying to make sure you got your iron and fiber. LMAO
This is what happens when the law/oversight is there on paper and not enforced.
Sounds like Rolaids are being produced in China now.
''outside mfg'', hmmmmmmmmmmm, my guess is China
Wow if you're getting the additional fiber and minerals, shouldn't the be charging more for them??
Tums works better anyhow...
No wonder its called JOHNSON & JOHNSON. Seems like a couple of them are running the company
I've always preferred tums anyways.

It is interesting that the original entry for this subject was dated 12/09/10 and yours is dated 12/14/11. Do you know something that we all should?
