Here's a tip. How about just don't wear heels. I'm not so insecure about my height that I feel that I must torture myself. I'm not so enslaved by fashion that I have to be oppressed by it. I like to dance and have fun at parties without the pain and agony. And guess what, I still look good.
I used to be a dancer, so my feet are used to being pointed. Therefore, wearing heels for me is more comfortable than wearing flats. In fact, when I wear flats, I often get shin splints.
It's not always about being insecure or a slave to fashion.
Really, I have many heels that are 3-4 inches that are just as comfortable to wear as flats all day long. It's all in how the shoe or boot is made. I have some 3-4 inch heels that I have a hard time walking a even block in them. I usually only wear them if going out to dinner and will be sitting all night and nothing else matches the outfit. It's not all about heel height. It about how it is made and if it is comfortable to wear. One 4 inch heel may feel like a torture rack while another is just as comfortable as can be.
Oh and it's not about being insecure with a persons height. I am 5'8" and love tall heels because they make my legs look great and I do try to buy the most comfortable I can find. Plus being a couple of inches taller than most men is pretty cool too. ;)
I wear uncomfortable shoes all the time as I am short and love high high heels. What has helped me a lot with foot pain is a toe stretcher called SmartToes http://www.smarttoes.com They're super comfortable and they help restore your toes and feet, back to their natural position. At the end of a long day it's great relief. I used coupon code MB10 for 10% off.
Actually I have bought shoes, but I live in a major city and haven't done any shopping in Duluth lately. Tapered heels might still be out there in the hinterlands.
Buy your heels at dance-footwear outlets. stylish, and ensure that your feet and ankles are being properly supported-(though I do still advocate inserts if you tend to wear them 24/7.) Mix it up-heels and skirts, ballet flats and floor-length pin-striped slacks-still gives your legs that elongated look, drawing that line to our torso, etc, switch every other day-I wore heels at work constantly because I love them but after three days in a row, my back was not happy-make yourself compromise. It's just healthy.
I have a much better idea! Wear shoes that don't hurt your feet! You'll be better off in the long run! Yes! At one time I wore HIGH Heel shoes & now years later, am paying the price! But! you are only young once! Just remember there is nothing better that HAPPY FEET!
I love high heels. Be reasonable and smart about them. At 57 yrs of age I don't have bunions or hammertoes because I bought well constructed high heels when I worked in corporate for over 20 years on the road. I wear them now at parties, etc and they don't bother me because I exercise my calf muscles to accomadate the non wear time.
Use common sense. My girlfriend suffers from bunions and hammertoes because of crappy shoes she bought when she was in her in 30's - 40's. Now her back is off because of her foot issues.
Maybe Duluth is just years ahead in a 'tapered heel' revival?
What unabashed (and geographically challenged - snobbery. Duluth is in Minnesota not Missori. The tiny city in Missori would be St. Louis. Of course, this is just fly-over country and who needs high heels here when all one should have is work boots and snowshoes. That internet thing will never catch on so Midwesterners, being as stupid in other important things like shoes, couldn't figure out how to order on-line up to date pieces of cow leather and plastic. Anyway all that highfalluting frippery would be wasted on the monthly social trips to the co-op to get cow care products, borax, candles and wagon wheel grease.
....oops, that reminds me, I left my deer skin soaking a little to long in my urine - don't want to overcure it - good thing I have that tallow on hand.
just like my home state of minesoat hailing from anoka, most iowan and minnesotan women look like corn fed cows anyway and heels would be wasted on them anyway!
www.istudio.com/barbylegs and i thank goodness i aint the 1~!~-)
new yorkers not far behind with cowpies spewing from their traps putting down men who LOVE us looking sexy even if we suffer as i aint no lez either!

Who invented high heel. Has to be a man. No woman would invent something that has caused more pain and injury to millions of women over the years.
I will not wear high heels. My highest heel is 1" that are on my 'dress shoes' - a beautiful pair of black patents. Thankfully, I'm a native NYC girl - and here people WALK. So it's perfectly fine to go out wearing flats or low heeled shoes since you'll be doing a mile or more in them.
The fashionable girls in the offices keep the heels under their desk and only put them on at work. NY women carry really large bags as a rule - one reason is to carry their heeled shoes in them while what they're really wearing are flats!
A few weeks ago I went to a gala fundraising events with many celebrities. As it was winding down, I was standing next to an "A" list celebrity in the hallway, who was waiting for her driver. She found a chair, sat down, and removed the super high 'stage' heels, and put on sneakers! With the gown! I started laughing and said: You just reaffirmed my faith in the world! I told her I often wondered about the high heels the celebs wear on the red carpet. She told me those 'devices of torture' come off as soon as the cameras go off!
what women do for men is amazing, of course they do for themselves too, but what man doesn't think "heels." aren't just bloody erotic. women know this. no objections to anything just an observation, I think women are beatiful and beatiful legs, high heels, ah................
high heels .... all about sex..long legs and a butt that sticks out. (yes looks good, but girls, take care of you precious feet)! A guy's sexy move, although he likely doesn't even know it...is wearing a 'arrow' pointing to his penis. At least he won't suffer bunions, blisters, and such by simply wearing a tie!
As the saying goes " walk a mile in her shoes ", lol, and guys will have a better appreciation of the problem. I have and do once a year, every halloween, no I'm not a crossdresser and the funny story that started it is too long for here.
Four inch heels are a b^tch and usually takes me a week to get use to balance and walking without killing myself, LOL. Where the practising doesn't really bother me or my feet, I'm very glad to get out of them by the end of the party.
I love seeing my wife in them, but I understand the pain now,and to all ladies, my sympathy as I understand, LOL
Well I don't wear high heels anymore due to medical reasons. I have a double back problem (chronic low back pain and sciatica). Plus, I also have difficulty walking in heels. I would much rather wear flats nowadays. They are more comfortable.
I started running when I was in my twenties. Shortly after I started having knee pain in my right leg. My doctor asked if I wore heels, of course I did because I worked in an office, he said stop it or you'll end up having knee surgery. So I started wearing ballet flats to work and boy did it make a difference! My two mile run went to three and a half miles and I felt great. Even that little lower back pain I had went away. I'll never wear those painful devices again and I don't give a crap if guys like them or not. I'm free!
just a tip that should help, when buying heels, try to find onethat support your ankle, astrap buckle whatever, to keep you foot from rocking side to side, sandles are best to keep your toes from getting crunched.
I have feet problems because of ignorance of shoes and am now paying the price badly. We're just informed about the looks of a shoe and not the harm it does and it's easy for men to say it looks pretty because they don't have to wear such shoes. Well I don't see why we have to endanger our feet for just plain joes. I can see a model, stripper, or an actress doing so, it's rewarded highly for doing so and you catch the great men.
Guess what, it's not men that make women wear high heels. Ask ANY married woman and she'll tell you that men hardly ever notice ANYTHING about women... Their outfit, their shoes, their new hair styles, ANYTHING.
Women who claim they are going through hell to impress men need to be honest with themselves... You aren't doing it to impress men, you're doing it to impress other women. After all, other women are the only ones who notice one way or the other.
As far as men go? Most of us think the sexiest look a woman can have is a sweater, jeans, and a ballcap with the ponytail pulled through the back. Think about that for a bit.
I love high heels. I love the height they give me (I'm 5' 2"), I love how they extend the leg line, I love how they make me look and feel. But I must admit that I do not walk far in them. I wear flats when I drive - I'm concerned the heel will wear a hole in the carpet, or get caught under the gas peddle or clutch. And I wear flats when walking into the office. When I wear trousers which require high heels, I simply roll them up at the bottom so they won't drag on the ground. And I am a runner. and have no problems with my feet from wearing high heels. Personally, it's all in being yourself, with or without heels.
I don't wear heels because of a height issue. I wear high heels because I love heels. As long as you take care of your feet . . .wear your heels and enjoy. I know I will.

I went out to an out door New Years event last night with my son and his mom. It was held in one of those artsy brick paved pedestrian business districts. We got quite a laugh watching all those half drunk ladies in their stilletos. They would have had a tough time on regular pavement, the bricks were murder!

Violet, you are a perfect example of why high heels are a bad idea (and a spammer, too).
Lovely shoes in the picture, bows and tapered heels were all the rage in 1985. Perhaps the author would like to join us in 2010.
I guess you haven't bought many shoes or boots lately. You can find tapered heels all over the place. :)

you all look mighty fine in heels so don't give em' up---------- from all us guys
Do you wear them?
send us a video of you wearing them daily then you can comment. No average Joe is worth endangering feet for.
Yeah!! makes their legs LOOK awesome--sorry they hurt-but they sure look nice!!
Thank you revolt, we appreciate it. And, GoToHell, when I wear heels, 90% of the I'm wearing them for me, not the male crowd at the bar.
