I am trying to take a volunteer mission trip to Tanzania to deal with the multitude of issues surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa, specifically to care for the orphans of this disease and to provide education on HIV/AIDS prevention and reproductive health. Unfortunately, I am a financially-strapped pre-med student, and I can't afford to take the trip myself. I must rely on the generosity of well-meaning strangers...if you or anyone you know can afford to make a donation of any amount, please visit my fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/janetminton. Thank you very much, I know that if we all work together we can change the situation in Africa.
If you're a pre-med student, you don't even have a bachelor's degree yet. Kind of early to be soliciting funds for your future plans. There is not much of a guarantee that you will finish college, let alone get accepted into medical school, graduate, and ultimately fulfill your alleged plans. I suggest you work part time and take out loans just like everyone else, and then start fund-raising for your Africa plans when you actually have something to show for it - like a medical degree.
You can also start with the Peace Corps, or any number of reputable organizations with established funding to get over there. That will have more impact than spending 4 weeks over there as a "pre-med" student.
