Private insurance industry? Nah! They wouldn't try to give you less and expect you to pay more? They're not really asking for PPO prices and only giving catastrophic style insurance!! No..no..no. it's all your imagination. They don't need laws...they are honest nice folk....you know like your apple pie granny.
This is a great change that should be adopted in other states. The Insurance Companies are hold the handle in rate negotiations often forcing Doctor's to accept rates that don't cover the cost of operation. In this scenario they present the front that the Doctor is abandoning the patient vs they making it impossiblefor the Doctor to stay open. The emotional and financial toll of serious illness is only compounded when your Doctor is dropped by your insurer and they pass on the cost of seeing your Doctor to you (the patient) instead of just paying the Doctor what he is worth in the first place. Medicine is the only profession where someone else consistently determine what ones labor/skills/expertise is worth. Doctor's need 12+ years of education and training and are highly monitored. What training do Insurance CEO's need? Who determine their worth? Yes Medicine is at heart an altruistic profession but Doctors have to live and pay bills too!
To be an insurance CEO requires the same training as any CEO.... You have to have no compassion for your fellow man, no empathy for anyone but yourself and your money and above all a god complex because you get to decide who lives and who dies by virtue of who has the money to pay. We really need to regulate the insurance industry better.
