We need more positive stories like this to promote organ donation awareness. Much thanks to the Hernandez family and the countless other donors and donor families.
This is a beautiful story, full of inspiration and hope. I myself am listed as an organ donor on my driver's license, only because life is precious and helping someone sustain their own by donating is an act of kindness to a complete stranger. Even in death this young man was able to keep living by being so selfless.
I know it can be morbid and a bit taboo, but I'm glad people are bringing awareness to this absolutely selfless act. Bless these families, they've risen from hardship and are able to come to closure because of a selfless act of love.
God Bless that young man for such a gift to leave behind !! My late husband had 18 years of life , because a wonderful person signed a donor card , and he received a new kidney , on ST. Patricks Day !!! The luck of the Irish !!!! God bless that person for their generosity !!!!Bless all that give that priceless gift to their fellow man !!!
My 18 year old son died two years ago and unbeknownest to me he too signed a donor card. I recently received an update from the donor bank that all of his donations have been used. I wish I could look into the eyes of my son by the two people who received his corneas and hug the person that has his heart. It has helped me just knowing he helped others. I love my joe..... he is still helping others.
Donating the organs of the people you loved allows a little bit of them to continue to live and allows some good to come of their death. It is a self less act, an amazing gift, a blessing to the recipient and and their family. Can you imagine being 27 and diabetic and on dialysis for years already, losing your eyesight and suffering organ damage as your disease progresses? Now imagine getting a new kidney and a pancreas from a donor and no longer being diabetic, and no longer needing dialysis, no longer being sick, looking forward to life.
Those who are given that kind of gift would ALWAYS be grateful to the one who gave them another chance. They would always remember that person, known to them or not. In that way too the donor lives on in the memory of the recipient and his or her family. Say yes to organ donation. Check the box on your license, tell your family. It might be your final and best gift to someone.
Great story. I feel for the father, who had to leave the room. I can understand how hard it would be to deal with losing your son and in the same hour have a conversation about cutting up his body to be doled out like spare parts. Poor guy. I'm glad the family's found some solace in Mikey's recovery. It's also great knowing Mikey's "paying forward" has gotten so much local support. I hope it becomes a successful and functional large-scale charity for the area. The boy who died would probably be very happy that his tragic death was able to bring so much good to others.
Only God knows when he will call 'one home and in what manner. A young death is a tragedy no matter what the cause, why bury potential life for others in a coffin? Celebrate having had the time you did with the deceased and share that life thru others!
My bestfriend was hit last january by an 18 wheeler in San Antonio Tx, he was an organ donor and they said that he was able to give blood vessels, his corneas, and a bunch of his other organs, he saved atleast 14 people... I miss him like crazy and everytime I see a donor story I get a little weapy-eyed, He and I used to teach first aid with the red cross and he's still helping others. Love you Matty & miss you.
