Every medication come with side effects, which at times include death. But if the medication is improving your life and helping you cope day to day, then what is someone to do. Medication is not a cure all, there maybe unlying factors in someone's health that may cause other problems not associated with the medication. I feel it is up to the patient on what they want to take or not, what treatment they want or not, everytime a company comes up with a medication that help but someone dies or get a side effect, they sue and the drug is pulled off the market. Let the patient decide and you accept what come with that medication or go on without it and see how your life is then.
If the drug works by blocking VEGF and the heart needs that to mantain itself, then I would think other cancer patients would be at increased risk as well. Yes all medications come with possible SE, some of them deadly.. so there must be full disclosure and the patient needs to give their informed consent. However, I highly doubt there is ever full discloure. It seems like a lot of drugs are on the market, then pulled off because of SE that weren't previously reported. People who have ccancer are scared, they want treatment and are willing to take the risks. Nevertheless, let the buyer beware.
If you don`t wanted the increased risk of heart failure then do not take the avastin and take your chances with the breast cancer. No doubt the chemo and radiation you had for the breast cancer in the first place weakened your heart to begin with but you at least survived. That is what is great about having choice though Everyone has choice. My dads cancer surgeon said that some folks shook his hand and went home with their cancers to die on their terms. Choices. You live or die with your choices. If you want to be angry then be angry that technology has not advanced far enough to come up with something new. Avastin is just another choice.
