I would rather suffocate myself with a pillow than wind up in one of those places. Unless young blonde nurses changed my diaper daily and sang gentle lullabies to me. Then I'd consider it.
I had the misfortune of having to place my frail wife in a nursing home in Mooresville, NC. I visited her daily without fail because I "felt" an uneasiness with the employees. I did observe mistreatment and routine neglect of the residents and specifically my wife. When I confronted the Director of Nursing (the Administrator hid and refused to speak with me), she told me their Number One priority was making money for the Corporate Headquarters in Texas; NOT the residents. I removed my wife under HER doctor's orders because of the neglect after being there for only 39 days. This place receives a rating overall of 1 star out of 5; the lowest possible. I would compare a nursing home to that of a dog kennel with the dogs receiving more attention and certainly much better care than the elderly in a nursing home. Incidentally; my FOUR written complaints to the State of NC were swept under the rug! Nothing was done to correct the problems I described in specific detail.
