Tell your kids at a young age that it is important to eat right and exercise. They most likely won't suffer these dreaded diseases that come with obesity or have to lose weight.
This is mostly true, but do not be forceful to the point of where kids will rebel. As a child I refused to eat specific foods that now I have come to love, that are healthy. I wish my parents would have given me an opportunity to pick out which 'healthy', good for you vegetables I wanted to eat instead of forcing the most rank and disgusting stuff down my throat.
I do not wish obesity on anyone, and hope that more families will try to be healthier because when I go to the store and see all the big sizes are gone, and only size 0-8 remain, that speaks volumes.

People eat too much period. For the average American who goes to a white collar job and doesn't actually exercise regularly, your body only needs about 10 calories per pound per day. This means if you are 150 pounds, you should only be eating 1500 calories per day. Count up your calories one day and see just how much you are actually eating. You would be surprised.

I was just speaking to my girlfriend about this, because she is thinking of going on a vegan diet for a few weeks to see if it will help her health problems (fibromialgia, neck and back issues, sleep problems, urinary problems, etc.). I stated that if she went organic and vegan, and lost weight on top of it, she might feel worse for a while if toxins, hormones and chemicals are stored in her fat cells are are released during this "cleanse".

I've been telling friends/family for years how harmful substances are stored in our body's fat cells. They just either laugh or look at me like I'm crazy. Acetomenaphen (sp?) in Tylenol, Advil, etc. are difficult to metabolize and are stored in fat cells as well. The only over the counter pain killer I use is Bayer Aspirin.
My doctor has treated me for 20 years with homeopathic remedies to get pesticides, pre-emergents (weed killers), and other harmful chemicals out of my body. I don't metabolize them normally and get violently ill when exposed to them. Homeopathy is the only thing that works for me. I've noticed I've been getting less ill than I used to and can prevent reactions if I take drops everyday to lessen the bad effects of exposure.
Even though he has 3 medical degrees, Blue Cross/Blue Shield won't cover a penny of my medical care because it doesn't cover "alternative" forms of medicine. I'm an old guy and I've seen this same old mess before. First eggs are good for you, then they're bad for you and now that's changed back again to being good for you. And then there was the good old Hamburger scare, causes cancer, and the list goes on. I've seen people run everyday and die when they're only forty years old of a heart attack and seen some people smoke well into their eightys and die of something non-related to cancer. When your time is up, it's up, so try and enjoy this life with the things you want to to and stop living in fear of the few pleasures we all enjoy.

Got ciguatera poisoning once, really bad. You get it from seafood. It's odorless, tasteless. Look it up on Wikipedia. Doctor told me it stays in the body probably in body fat. You don't want that stuff. Thought I had a stroke, and so did they until all my tests came back negative. So now I'm very reluctant to lose weight.
Think about the stoke you will get if you don't lose weight. You should go through a gradual weight loss program with a doctor and learn to eat healthy. You should be aware of what fishes have the potential to carry ciguatera. It all comes down to educating yourself.

This can be done safely if one follows Richard Simmons' advice : love yourself, eat less, and shake that bootie. That is, no crash diets, no weird food plans, no expectation of instant fat reduction.
I would add that cleansing should always accompany fat reduction: Drink plenty of purified water and organic apple juice. An excellent tonic is the juice of half an organic lemon, 1 T apple cider vinegar, 1/2 t. cayenne, and 1/2 T grade B maple syrup. Be certain to eat a diet high in vegetable fiber esp. beans. The fiber pulls the nasties out of the body and they are eliminated in feces.
If you reduce body fat thru sensible diet and exercise I don't think the levels should be enough to harm you (normally). Doing a starvation diet where you're losing body fat at a high rate without a rise in metabolism can have bad effects, the least of which is bad breath due to ketosis (energy deficiency).
