It concerns me that "Fact Check" only focuses on "facts" that the authors took exception to. This article sounds much like a report from Fox News. It should have been headlined "Some of the Facts, Cherry-picked and interpreted with Spin".

Ron Paul, the libertarian stalwart, has an earmark rap sheet. Earmarks can be done correctly and account for a very small percentage of infrastructure spending.

as for the mandate, legally, with the power of taxation in tow, the government could have done "Medicare for all," which a lot of people now complaining about 'government takeovers' and 'mandates' would have accepted, but it would have entailed creating a sharp, potentially panic-inducing disruption to the existing market and a real takeover and foreclosure of American-based health insurance companies-- rather than a new Patients Bill Of Rights, tax incentives for individuals and businesses, subsidies to work within the existing system, moral and lawful caveats and guidelines anew-- would have burdened the government with mind-boggling bureaucracy while complete absorption of the existing system and insurance pool seems like a lot to expect in a country shamelessly controlled by corporate dollars.

An automatic government payroll deduction was averted, an existing market and pool gets a long overdue regulated makeover.

The finished product allows for more flexibility and choice.
