I got my 1st pair of glasses when I entered 6th grade. They were not stylish in the least, can you say Clark Kent? "Four-eyes" was the mildest of the insults my oh so empathetic classmates sent my way.
But that was in Northern Utah, in the U.S. of A. Children in the 3rd world are so much more empathetic and nurturing...sure...The article was correct in its evaluation. If the glasses are ugly or become associated with poverty, the kids won't wear them, and I don't blame them at all.
If effort, (and money), isn't put into addressing their looks, all the money and good intentions invested in them will be for naught.
