Malnutrition can cause lethargy. Mild lethargy may seem like an improvement in ADHD symptoms. The diet the study would not necessarily provide everything a growing child would need. The article did not mention the kid's vitamin and mineral intake. Something as simple as Iron deficiency could have been a factor.
How can an allergy to certain foods cause emotional stress? I think the idea is pretty corny. My daughter has ADD and like Kevin, I could tell there was something wrong when she was a small infant. She already has enough trouble as it is and I could just imagine her shock if I told her about this diet. Rice? The vegs. are cool but jeeze.... whole thing sounds like a bunch of nonsense. I think Darthedon has it right.
My son has ADHD. He was extremely active as a baby. As a mother of two grown sons before him, it was easy enough to tell something was not right!!! My doctor also had two sons who had adhd...like he said, don't believe the hype that it is diet, or he should be taking "natural" medicine, etc...it doesn't work...
At 15, my son has improved a lot! Mostly because I got him into activities that he can excel in, and he is happy about it. It keeps him very busy, which is what he needed.
From the article it seems like the diet is just treating the hyperactivity part. I think it would have been better if they also used kids who just had ADD, no hyperactivity.
B.S.!!! My daughter was born with ADHD. It's not something a diet change can fix.
The way she acts now is exactly the same way she acted from the day she was born only she can talk and walk now.
If changing from Formula to regular food doesn't show any change in ADHD behavior, no other type of diet change is going to make any difference.
I could tell from the day my son was born that he didn't have ADHD like my daughter.
