I'm so sick of this stuff. If you poll cancer patients, you get a mix of all sizes. They are ALWAYS saying "we think this causes cancer" or "These people are more at risk" and then it's retracted later. So I just don't buy it. People are getting cancer in other nations because it can affect ANYONE. But yet "Oh eat this to prevent/reduce risk." Or "Ohh no eating that will increase risk of cancer!"
They actually don't know that. And never will. They don't know what causes it, what cures it, what prevents it, or what increases it and they need to stop freaking everyone out!
Why do you say they never will know what causes/prevents cancer?
Yes, cancer is complicated, but advances are made all the time in the medical sciences and it will just take more time. Letting us know the probable risk factors now is good health policy.
Wow, MSN deleted my comment.....gee, I wonder why. An italian doctor found that cancer can be cured with baking soda. If you raise your alkaline ph this will prevent viruses, bactria and cancer from forming. Big pharma doesnt want us to know because all these donations to all those cancer fund raiser are important to them. The american diet has too much acid which raises our acid levels. 1 tsp in 8 oz of water a day, half for kids will prevent such illnesses. See Coast to Coast Am Alternatives to cancer....
This article serves as an interesting adjunct to another article in the Health section today that talked about how overweight and obesity are becoming ever more prevalent throughout the globe, including developing nations. We know that overweight and obesity cause numerous major, potentially deadly chronic diseases. We know that being overweight and especially obese negatively impacts quality of life for many people. There is no need to deny the facts and bury our heads in the sand about this epidemic. There is time to stop this problem from affecting developing nations to the extent that it has impacted the US.
However, a campaign like that will have to be a global effort. Education in this country is far better than in many developing nations and still we have a massive majority of the population who essentially knows nothing about how to properly feed themselves and avoid becoming overweight and obese. Widespread education and health promotion may be able to nip the problem in the bud. We have an example of what not to do: the US. We can concretely show how the financial and social damage done by the ludicrously high overweight and obesity rates in this country. If this same problem afflicts the entire globe, just imagine the cost in terms of both money for health care and in human lives. We have to do all we can now, while their tastes, preferences, and habits are still malleable, to encourage a diet that will more successfully support public health.
Thin and obese people alike get the same diseases and we do know the reason why. It is not a mystery. Diseases such as cancer are man-made due to the toxins we put in our bodies through the foods we eat the the products we put on our skin.
Unless we are eating 100% whole organic foods, we are eating fruits and vegetables laced with pesticides or we are eating meat where the animals have been pumped full of antibiotics which has been proven, and the FDA admits, to chemically altering our bodies. Most of the products such as shampoo, lotion, deodorant, that we put on our skin has harmful chemicals in it, therefore, altering our bodies cells leading to cancer, etc.
We need to start eating whole, organic foods and grass-fed, free-range, antibiotic-free meat and using products that are chemical free in order to prevent obesity and cancer and other diseases.
A good place to start in addressing the issue of obesity, would be to seriously look at phasing out the use of steroid/HGH in the production of our foods. If we would be willing to admit it, this is the biggest culprit; coupled with the prevalence of fast/junk food consumption. To argue that education is the answer is almost a cop- out. Education is only one variable in the solution equation. Case in-point, people are fully aware that smoking causes deadly cancer but are not deterred by it.
Live long enough and you're probably going to get cancer. Fact of life.
Fighting obesity is more than a cancer problem. It's a diabetes, back problems, heart disease, strain-on-your-organs-and-society problem. I don't think it really matters too much if we can PROVE it causes cancer or not, we all know there are a host of other nasty side effects of being obese.
People need to grow up and stop blaiming everyone else for being fat. I work damn hard to stay fit and slender, and if you don't put in the effort to eat vegetables, lean meats, fruits, complex grains and stay away from sugar & processed foods I will certainly not ever feel sorry for you. I don't care if your mom was fat, if your medication makes you gain, if you can't help shoving cheetos in your mouth. Grow up and take some initiative. It takes hard work, and I'm damn proud of it.
I might get sick, or get a disease or get cancer some day, staying fit and eating right will not promise me a healthy future. But we have to take care of this one body we've been given.
Yeah a big society problem when people are douchey about obese people. Being an ass to them is not going to help. Constantly highlighting that America is fat is not helping. And having people like you always commenting on articles about how perfect they are and how easy it is to be thin doesn't help either.
I didn't say it was easy. I said it was HARD work! I think part of the problem is the acceptance of obesity!! I'm not perfect, I'm just a normal weight and in shape. Don't put words in my mouth. I could blame birth control for making me gain 10lbs, but I don't. I work past it. People make comments to smokers all the time, "that's bad for you" but it isn't ok to say "don't eat that massive hamburger"? They are both bad for you, one is socially acceptable. THAT is the problem.
henry you're an idiot. Nobody says it's ok to be obese, that is just a bandwagon assumption. Did we completely wipe out tobacco and prevent people from smoking? No. Will everyone in America get thin? No. Medications, injury, and self-neglect (which is also a factor in smokers), will continue. There are many, many, many people trying to help themselves with Weight Watchers, gyms, etc. A Planet Fitness opened up near me and it's only $10/mo. I am impressed that people that don't seem to be the type to go in there are in there working hard at improving themselves. They seem to be low-income overweight people and they are working very hard and it's nice to see that. People have been overweight for decades. It's just now become the trend to criticize, hate, and belittle these people because of all the weight loss ads and articles like these.
Also, with SO many people getting cancer (big and small), and smoking, and all sorts of other diseases, yes health care will cost more. Not by overweight people alone. That is another bandwagon accusation.
here's what i think. i ask myself, how did my ancestors live? did they stay indoors, sit most of the time, eat processed food and a lot of it?
biologically we have not changed and we are not designed to live the way we do.
eat as close to what your ancestors evolved to eat as much as possible. this is not the same for everyone. i am of irish lineage . i eat meat and fish, leafy greens, apples and berries, dairy, walnuts. i avoid most grains and drink mostly water. i try to buy as local and organic as possible. i consider food to be my most important purchase.
walk. that is what us bipeds are designed to do. walk a lot.
sleep when it gets dark, get up when the sun comes up.
if you have to be indoors a lot then you need vitamin D. i take 7,000 iu's per day. that is still much less than what my body would be making if i were outside all day. and skip the sunscreen dammit! i am very white and i grew up in the tropics before there were commercial sunscreens- and no one had skin cancer! hello? trees make great sunscreens.
go ahead and bathe everyday, but only use soap on the smelly parts, and use only soaps and oils that are natural and organic, your skin is very absorbent. i use a mix of corn starch and baking soda as an underarm deodorant- works great!
The rise in cancer in developing world is mainly do to growth in western style food serving and increased use of over the counter medication both which are cause to cancer. 78% modern medication could cause cancer as a side effect over time. Almost all fast food serving that use saturated fat and excess salt could cause cancer and heart problem. In many parts of Africa fish and chips which is frequently fried and contains heavy salt and saturated fat (hydro-carbon particles) is partly to blame. Countries whose traditional food is based on stew experience low cancer rate as long as excessive modern medication is not in use.
Do you want an antidote for cancer in the fat cells? You take Vitamin E and Niacin (sparingly). What happens to fat cells when you have them is free radicals get caught or lodged in the fat cells like carbons. NON flush free Niacin, burns the fat cells and Vitamin E frees the free radicals from the fat tissue. Want the cure for cancer? The cure for cancer is "perfect" cancer or normal cell division, as found in procreation, from the zygote to the perfect infant vs. abnormal cell division, as found in free radicals like the T cell in AIDS or crossing over to the divided cell. That aint how Mommy and Daddy made you! You might find some relief in Potassium Permanganate and Vitamin E combined in water, or turning lead into gold. You ever try a heaping tablespoon of baking soda with Coke Classic and Ice. It will get you high as a kite. Side effects include diarrhea or a colon cleanse, do not drink more than two tumblers of concoction. A good all around antidote for freeing radicals is Extra-Strength Excedrin or Equate Headache Relief.
Also, yes, while everyone needs to take their lives into their own hands and be healthy, sometimes medicine and/or injury contribute to weight gain/difficulty in losing. Not every overweight person is an irresponsible slob. The majority, yes, but everyone, no.
As a breast cancer survivor - I really don't appreciate your calling it a "fat cancer". It's demeaning and is just another way of saying - "you got cancer and it's your own fault." I've known many people who have been diagnosed with cancer and only a couple would I call "fat". Cancer is hard enough without adding shame to it.
Its the food stupid....not the sitting down or lack of exercise.
The processed foods in every form whether canned, frozen or dry contains high amount of corn syrup, fructose, sucrose and high salt content.
Studies done in Canada showed salt could be the culprit combined with other chemicals you eat. Try this, stop eating all processed foods..eat fresh vegis ok fresh frozen with no sauces, eat lentils , beans , pasta, organic meats, reduce meat intake to 10% of what you eat each day or less. Meat is ok 2-3 days x week no more. Fresh vegi and fruits come first, reduce fried and cheese product. Moderation is the key and changing the type and the amount would reduce incidence of illness. Your looks should be slender to be healthy or lean.
Studies show that people who are skinny live longer.
Temperance is the key, there are no excuse today with all the info we have.
By the why watch out for GMF not a good idea modifying genes or using loads of pesticide....our bodies resistance diminishes. Spread the word and demand corn syrup subsidies by the government to stop. The increase of its use has jumped 1000% in the last 10 years. Bad news for us, more money for the corps...we are being poisened really and no one speaks against the big lobbyist for food.
Just because thin people get disease too doesn't mean that the Western problems aren't being exported to the rest of the world via fast food and processed food being increasingly pushed everywhere in the world now.
It's common to be thin and still very toxic inside.
When someone is obese, there is a whole lot more strain on the heart and circulatory as well as the lymph and immune system.
It's no surprise that being a healthy weight is better than being obese, health wise.
But it's also true that anyone can get virtually any disease. One must eat right and think right (emotions affect physical health too) to stay clean and strong.
Cancer and other diseases now do have natural cures, and they are often simple. Medical associations and those who continually push for "Race for the Cure" or other charities, rake in millions to billions of dollars, and have for decades, and no progress has been made to really cure cancer.
The answers are found in nature and keeping one's body on the alkaline side (as cancer and other diseases can't survive in an alkaline body). Unfortunately, all processed, fried, fast food is very toxic and acid-forming in the body. Eating food like this destroys one's immune system and vitality.
Cancer is caused by oxygen deprivation which can be caused by poor blood circulation (poor oxygenation) or too much acidity in the blood which also results in poor oxygenation. The blood needs to be slightly alkaline to be able to hold enough oxygen. Poor circulation could be the result of too much bodily restriction (such as wearing too tight brasiers, or lack of daily bodily movement) or massive blood vessel blockages such as those caused by consumption of too much terrestrial animal fat/flesh. Take fish oil capsules to keep your blood fluid, drink plenty of good quality water and eat alkalizing foods (above-ground vegetables primarily, fruits secondarily - eating them raw is important). Certain areas of the body don't have too much blood running through them like fatty areas of the body such as women's breasts, so are more vulnerable. Also, daily consumption and application of raw garlic is a powerful cancer cure. For things like uterine or cervical cancer, use raw garlic depositories to keep the cancerous areas in close contact with fresh-pressed garlic. Lung cancer - apply pressed garlic in mesh bags on the areas of one's back.
the reason simple and natural cures for cancer are never spoken about in the major media, is because profit is at stake.
research any of the major medical associations' histories (AMA, ACS, FDA, etc.) and they have been involved in tampering with data, going to great lengths to discredit and marginalize anyone who has found and mentioned natural cures, such as Max Gerson.
There may not be an exact cure for cancer, but good eating habits are linked to lower rates of cancer, and theres blogs all over alternative health forums about people eliminating their cancer thru drastic eating and lifestyle changes so instead of looking to drug companies that are into making money
Have any of you folks been around long enough to remember the warning not to eat the fat of the steak or pork, etc., you eat. The reasoning was that all of the toxins that the animals were exposed to from the foods they ate and water they drank, like fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, polluting chemicals from factories, etc., was stored in the fat cells.
Keeping that in mind, we were taught in nursing school over 40 years ago that cancer was caused by constant irritation; therefore, consider this: If we consume many toxic substances in our food, water and the air we breathe and we store them in our fat cells, as the animals reportedly do and we are also animals, doesn't it make sense that our fat cells are constantly irritated? With that, anybody that has fat cells can develop cancer, right. How many people do you know without have fat cells? That gives everybody the chance for developing cancer. That also gives fat people a bigger chance to develop cancer, because they have more fat cells. Perhaps this constant irritation of the cells can be referred to as free radical damage, you think?
I'm so sick of this stuff. If you poll cancer patients, you get a mix of all sizes. Thin people get disease too. A lot of them do.
How many of these countries have McDonald's and other fine fast food establishments?

LadyLynx. You eat right, exercise, do all the right things, and what happens?
You die healthy.
Seriously though, I agree with you. Being healthy does fight your chances of developing cancers, or diabetes and other illnesses,
They will never find a cure for cancer. There's too much money to made treating it.
we tell people that smoking is bad for them, we publicly ostracize people for it, yet somehow it is OK for people to be obese?
Health care costs will only soar as people get fatter and fatter. You think insurance is costly now? You ain't seen nothing yet...
And if marijuana ever gets legalized? Think how bad the 'munchies' are going to affect fat people, it's gonna be a gorgefest!

I have no sympathy for fatties. They are the authors of their own life, and shoving food in the faces is their own responsibility.

The promotion of smoking and obesity are both government plots. They are the best methods for maintaining the solvency of social security.
As someone who lost her mother to breast cancer, I find the headline incredibly offensive. My mother was NOT fat and she ate healthy food.
I am tired of this blame the victim nonsense.
