Isn't it bad enough, this specie of bison fell to only 6 babies remaining extant after Prez Grant gave the edict to wipe out the bison to starve out the Plains Native Americans! And, it was these 6 babies that kept the specie from falling extinct. And, it was these tiny, baby bison that became the Yellowstone herd.
Isn't it bad enough, this nation pushed extinct the woods bison in the eastern states and one other specie of bison. America's oldest living animal specie is the bison, and bison are/were the most vocal native specie of biodiversity, a strand in the web of all life. And, it is too bad if you have never shared time, space and life with a bison herd as I, one of my life's most spiritual and richly rewarding journeys.
No animal is as American as our bison, and it appears they are in trouble again, only based upon the folly of some judge who is scientifically illterate with ties only to paper laws, most of which were crafted by the very dumb, long ago, and very scientifically illiterate, utterly ignorant as to why they are alive and breathing, and it has everything to do with this nation's biodiversity, just like the American bison, a vital rivet that holds spaceship Earth altogether.
How is it modern man and his Dark Ages paper laws decide the very fate of the breath of all life and the great continuum of the Earth? Where is God's Holy Ark when we need him?
Shame, shame, shame on America and her brainwashed drones.
"Biological diversity [biodiversity, just like the bison] is central to the productivity and sustainability of the Earth's ecosystems. Organisms, biological structures and processes are the means by which the physical elements of the ecosystem are transformed into the goods and services upon which human kind depends." The Ecological Society
The bison should be treated and removed to other parks in their former range before being slaughtered. Ideally, the non-infected bison should be vaccinated; and the infected bison treated.
"Publicly owned herds" of bison should be given priority in grazing rights on publicly owned land over that of privately owned cattle. If farmers are worried about disease, then they should keep their private herds on private land - or vaccinate them if allowing them to graze where bison are located. Ranchers are extended the "privilege" of grazing their private herds on public lands; but - as with most such privileges granted - the recipients confuse "a privilege" with "a right" and to often begin to feel entitled to the use of the land.
this is just another excuse to kill wildlife. i do not believe that these bison have anything wrong with them at all, and if so, nature takes care of its own. this is just an excuse like sarah palin did when the hunters were paid to kill wolves for money. i am not native american, but i know wildlife is important to them as well as they are to me.
what kind of stupidity and cruelty to keep of herd of hungry wild animals from getting to food because of some arbitrary boderline. keep the ranchers cattle off public lands and then there won't be a problem.
i am sick to death of these ranchers wanting to kill wolves and bison to "protect" their cattle and sheep. if you want them protected then keep them on your private property. whoever shot the bison who crossed into private property...YOU ARE A JERK. why didn't your call the park service to come get the animal.
For years, we donated monies to a group, attempting to help the bison. For all of these years, not one bison infected the ranchers' herds of cattle with this disease. According to this group, American elk passed on more of the disease than the bison ever could. Yet, it was just okay and acceptable that the elk contacted the cattle disease because they brought in hunters, and they killed the elk. And, there were monies to be made from the elk killing.
