I'm not sure what the author of this article is trying to accomplish. Should all persons with a diagnosis of autism receive speech therapy for a lifetime? Funded by the government? The author of this article obviously has no idea that most individuals with moderate-severe autism have cognitive levels in the mental retardation range and will reach a platueau at some point. They're giving all they've got and it's unrealistic to believe they will function as "normal" someday. Most of these kids have been in speech therapy since they were in preschool or elementary school, and alot of districts now have an adult (18-21) program that allows students to continue to access services. So about 15 years of speech? How much do you expect them to progress after this? The whole point of them getting speech therapy in the educational setting is to prepare them to function to the best of their ability once they are done with school! There isn't a cure for autism for MOST children, they are going to have struggles through life until a cure is found. Research shows that the best kind of therapy for teenagers with autism is FUNCTIONAL communication. Functional, as in real-life situations. Is speech therapy for an entire lifetime realistic? These people need to do some real research behind autism treatment before posting articles like this.

If you don't want your child to have autism take your vitamin D and maintain a circulating level in the range of 50-80 ng/ml, year round and for life.
The highest rates of autism are found in children and mothers with the lowest levels of vitamin D (Seattle etc).
Read the Vitamin D Theory of Autism, the only theory to correctly predict every major development in this dreaded disease.
Harvard Medical agrees and you should too.
