This is looking to be another "Darwin Moment", where all the folks who decided that getting vaccinated for easily avoided but highly dangerous diseases are going to remove themselves from the gene pool by their stupidity . . .
The British have had an ongoing measles epidemic for years, so there are no surprises in this . . .
Nobody cares about anything anymore, and so stuff like this will continue to happen at geometrically increasing rates . . .
This is no different than what happens with food inspection, where perhaps 50 to 75 percent of the raw ingredients for our food come from China, but there are only 50 to 75 USDA and FDA inspectors in China who the rocket scientists in the Congress and White House believe are able to inspect and supervise the work of billions of Chinese . . .
Welcome to the dawn of the 21st century, where The Age of Sneaky Weaseling™ has coincided with The Age of Mindless Stupidity™, for sure . . .
For sure! :(
P. S. And for the folks who no doubt will present a series of patently ignorant lectures on the perils of mercury in vaccinations, I refer them to the ingredients of a 6-ounce can of tuna fish and the amount of mercury contained therein, which they will discover is a lot more than in the entire series of childhood, adolescent, and adult vaccinations . . .
Actually, the "patently ignorant lectures" were one gigantic, proven medical fraud, and the fact is that the quack who perpetuated it lost his license to practice medicine. Alas, annoying facts such as this will be denied or ignored by the simpletons who still subscribe to that malarkey. Darwin cases, the lot of them, and too bad they were still able to reproduce and further pollute the global gene pool.
Unfortunately, some people have allergic reactions to some vaccines. My child is one of them. She is not able to get MMR, so we do our best to keep her safe. She was able to get many but has a serious reaction to any vaccine that uses embryos from chickens... What can I do? I vaccinate her with those that do not use that technology and hope for the best. Before you make ignorant comments be sure to know the facts. It is possible this woman had the same reaction my daughter had..
Nobody faults you for not vaccinating your child due to legitimate medical reasons. We're faulting those who choose not to due to a mistaken belief that there is some nefarious plot afoot. By not immunizing their children (and themselves), they're putting children like yours at a higher risk level than they should be.
Two of my children had an egg allergy and could not have the MMR. In high school, they were retested and had outgrown the allergy. They did not have any trouble having the MMR at that time. May your child outgrow her problem.
heymrsm, you're right that there is a difference between not being able to receive any given vaccine for medical reasons (I am immunosuporessed by some the meds that I take for inflammatory arthritis, and cannot therefore receive attenuated vaccines, only those that used killed material.) and refusing to have your child/yourself vaccinated for sheer stupidity. Your child falls under the former category, and no one should be blaming you for having to protect your child in the very short-term instead of in the long term.
Your child is protected by a phenomenon called "herd immunity". It refers to the fact that when the majority of the people in any given area have been vaccinated against any given illness. it is extremely difficult/impossible for that particular illness to attach the unprotected people in that area.
5% of the population does not develop antibodies to the virus after the shots. So even if you get the immunization you are not immune. You can get a titer to see if you are immune.
If you are foolish enough to not vaccine yourself or your children, then you should live apart from society. Why should the rest suffer just because a person wishes to ignore basic science?
If you are vaccinated then why are you endangered by people who are not vaccinated? Vaccination protects the individual against the disease. So, if someone who is not vaccinated contracts measles it does not affect your immunity. The only people that would "suffer" are other people who are not vaccinated.
The highest risk is actually to children in the womb who can be born with terrible deformities and brain damage and people whose immune systems are compromised (vaccinated or not). So not getting vaccinated most certainly poses a risk for the general population.
Vaccination protects the individual against the disease. So, if someone who is not vaccinated contracts measles it does not affect your immunity. The only people that would "suffer" are other people who are not vaccinated.
Someone who chooses not to get vaccinated may not put me personally at risk, but since a baby cannot get the MMR vaccine until 1 year of age, and since immunocompromised children (for example, children with cancer) can't get live vaccines at all, that unvaccinated person could go around infecting newborns and kids with cancer with a disease that might kill them. Infants, kids with cancer... these are the people that NEED to rely on herd immunity to stay well. So, a big thanks to all of those who choose not to get vaccinated, from the infants and the kids with cancer who are praying they don't get stuck sitting next to you on an airplane.
Measles? I was vaccinated for that and I refuse to be manipulated by the CDC and their obvious hardsell for more "sickness" fear as I am not a wussy. I also think that kids do get way too many vaccines at once and too young for the practice to be anything more than a money making scam. Autism is just too widespread now for this to be blown off anymore. These are human lives and families here. The correlation can not be so unimportant to just babble off the same guilt trip "don't kill my kids with your unvaccinated kids" trip, you dumbass. Basic science isn't much of an argument either, and demonstrates the law that states: bu!!s3T, lack of a functioning temporal lobe, and debate logic cannot exist within the same lame two sentence comment. All that need for hateful and deliberate mockery of people who have children that have been harmed is so...I find you superfluous and you must be evicted if America is to be safe.
Go to any reputable health website and you'll find that the vaccine-autism link has been disproved by a large study. Go to any reputable news website and you'll find the doctor who published his study which set off the vaccine-autism scare is under investigation.
Autism has become a catch-all category for many different conditions that doctors don't take the time investigate, either because they don't have the time, money, patience, or training. Every mental problem with children isn't autism, and there is no verifiable proof that vaccines are linked to autism. Stop jumping to conclusions and relying on someone else's talking points.
Go to any reputable health website and you'll find that the vaccine-autism link has been disproved by a large study. Go to any reputable news website and you'll find the doctor who published his study which set off the vaccine-autism scare is under investigation.
That would be great information, if only it were true. There are two commonly cited large studies on the autism/vaccine link.
One examined children who had not received MMR BUT HAD RECEIVED OTHER VACCINES. It's hard to put faith in a study that says there is no link to vaccines when the kids got LOTS of vaccines.
The other large study examined thimerasol in the vaccines and autism rates after it was eliminated. It ignored all the other ingredients in the vaccine. How do they know the other 200 or so ingredients don't cause autism? They don't.
The autism/vaccine link has NOT been disproven. My personal feeling is autism is genetic, but for those parents that believe it is caused by vaccines, there is NOT concrete evidence that a link doesn't exist.
DH-356393, do me and everyone like me a huge favour and STAY AWAY FROM US UNTIL YOU WISE UP AND GET VACCINATED FOR EVERYTHING POSSIBLE.
I am immunocompromised by some of the meds that I take for an inflammatory form of arthritis. Anyone who is or has been a cancer patient is compromised. Anyone who has ever had an organ transplant is compromised. Pregnant women are compromised, even before they know that they are pregnant. Anyone with any type of chronic illness is compromised. It's not just children who are vulnerable.
So, wise up or find a way to avoid people, because you do not have the right to put other lives in mortal danger.
german measles (rubella), considered the milder form of measles overall, causes a birth defect rate of 85% if a pregnant woman gets it in her first trimester. yet a simple shot can prevent it, but dumb people would rather play russian roulette
Measles? People still were getting them at the time I went to school. If you had them, you stayed home until you were over them and end of story. Sure, sometimes a few others had them at the same time, but I still don't know anyone who has died from them. There are so many types to try to vaccinate from. I was vaccinated, got a different type anyway.
I realize this is a different case with a 27 year old having them and traveling around on a plane, but, it would be quite rare, I would think, if someone were to die from them.
No, it all boils down to plain old American stupidity and selfishness. "Gee, I have this fever, cough and body rash, but I really need to get home, so I'll just go pass the infection along to thousands of others, because my needs supercede those of the entire world. Screw those losers, and let them fend for themselves!"
Some illnesses can be transmitted during their incubation period before symptoms appear. The incubation period for measles is 7-18 days. Maybe this passenger didn't realize she was sick--or she only thought she might be coming down with a cold...why miss an expensive flight because you're coming down with a cold?
if you read the article you would have seen that hundreds of thousands of people die every year (world wide) from measles. back in the 60's when children were vaccinated people were still getting measles and it was devasting for pregnant women/unborn children. read your history many died.
The problem with that is that if you are in that 2%, it's 100% for you. If your child is in that 2% or lives but has lifelong problems, it's 1000% for you, and them.
No, immunizations do not have a 100% sucess rate across the board. Nothing in life is 100%. However, why anyone would endanger their child's life because they believe they know more than every disease specialist in the world is beyond my understanding. Of course, I remember when not immunizing your kids brought you the scrutiny of Child Services. Now they're too busy prosecuting the folks who swat their kid on the butt for throwing a fit in the store to address the important stuff.
Note the article said she became sick after she arrived in New Mexico. Like egroves said, many illnesses don't manifest symptoms until several days after they are contracted. Most common cold viruses take about 14 days to run their course, but you may not have symptoms for the first five to seven days after you catch the virus. It all depends on how strong your immune system is and what type of virus you are fighting.
well gee, if YOU don't know anyone, then it must not happen, after all your "common sense" knows more than some person who only spends their life studying a subject.
( note the extreme sarcasm directed towards self-indulgent arrogance)
The problem with your comment and your theory is that people can spread just about any communicable illness before they become ill themselves. It's called an incubation period, and in fact, it's when the illness is msot communicable.
Staying home when you know that you're sick is one thing, but how do you stay home when you are infectious but BEFORE you know that you're sick?
Staying home when you know that you're sick is one thing, but how do you stay home when you are infectious but BEFORE you know that you're sick?
that's how I got chicken pox (this was before a vaccine was available).
visited a friend, called the next day, and friend tells me "I have chicken pox". sure enough, two weeks later, it was my turn. and not much fun at twenty
If not getting vaccinated were truly a "Darwin moment", then the human species would have become extinct long ago. Vaccines are recent in the history of mankind. All those diseases didn't manage to wipe us out, and apparently they still haven't succeeded in wiping out the rest of the planet, while leaving those in the U.S. the lone survivors sitting smug with a vaccinated population. Now, this being said, I did choose to vaccinate my children simply to spare them being ill, even though I have natural immunity being older and having contracted and survived what were considered at the time the usual "childhood diseases". My only immunizations were polio (I remember being lined up and given a sugar cube in 1st grade) and smallpox (want to see my scar?) My point is just trying to put this in perspective. While people will get sick, and a minority will even die, the world isn't going to end because people don't get vaccinated.
I believe the author of the "Darwin moment" is stating that when you have the option of vaccination against a disease and choose not to receive it, you are ripe to be culled from the common population. Since, as you succinctly stated, vaccines are a fairly modern concept, those who did not have access to them in the past, and present, are excluded from the natural selection process he was referring to since vaccines were not available to them.
BTW, if I recall, there were a few diseases where a minority of people constituted was counted in the tens and 100s of millions. For example, the 1918 Flu Pandemic killed 3-6% of the global population or 50-100 Million people; Small Pox killed 300-500 Million people in the 20th century with as many as 400,000 europeans killed every year during the latter years of the 18th century. Of course, vaccines were not available for the diseases back then but when they were developed and used, they all but eradicated small pox in the US. The flu still kills because it constantly mutates or produces new strains that require new vaccines, but when it is available, and an individual chooses not to use them, then the indiviual places many more than themselves at risk.
Though some may not agree with vaccinations, the rate in which they are administered or the number of vaccinations required, the general populations has suffered less from many ravaging diseases (small pox, polio, etc.) because of the use of vaccines.
Well said, Siberica. And I believe you will be healthier for your entire life because you had the childhood diseases. You will be less susceptible to the autoimmune disease also, I believe.
Makes sense to me. Don't vaccinate and if you get a childhood disease and you die then so be it. That is the way it works in nature. Only the strong survive. SARCASM intended.
Well said, Siberica. And I believe you will be healthier for your entire life because you had the childhood diseases. You will be less susceptible to the autoimmune disease also, I believe.
yep, your "belief" is a far more reliable indicator than intense study , testing, scrutiny and analysis.
"common sense" (also known as self-delusion) trumps reality again.
Really? I guess you didn't read your history books, did you? Black Death (bubonic plague) wiped out roughly 75% of the population of the planet. Cholera can wipe out a whole village in a matter of days. And throughout known history, there have been pandemics that have significantly reduced the work population. At least one such plague killed such a large proportion of the population that humankind was barely left with a gene pool sufficient to sustain human life.
Hey Baldie, I can see right now, all the money your parents spent on Physiotherapy of the grey matter was for nothing. You are still repressing your true feelings. Son, you have to learn to say what's on your mind. lol Your points are well made. Kudos
I was born before the MMR shots were available, although I received the vaccine for polio and small pox .When I contracted measles at 7, I was never that sick in my life. Even pneumonia was a walk in the park compared to measles. I vividly recall the horrible fever dreams. Please, please don't make your kids suffer unnecessarily--get them vaccinated.
I did too, November 1957, same age as you, and my 3 year old brother and infant sister did too, at the same time. I, too, have never been so sick in my life, including when I had pneumonia.
For the idiots who don't vaccinate, I suggest they have somebody who knows how to read look up the stats on how much epidemics reduced the population of Europe during the Middle Ages.
The cell culture media of the rubella vaccine is derived from tissues taken from therapeutic abortions. The Vatican Curia has expressed concern about the rubella vaccine's embryonic cell origin, saying Catholics have "...a grave responsibility to use alternative vaccines and to make a conscientious objection with regard to those which have moral problems." The Vatican concluded that until an alternative becomes available it is acceptable for Catholics to use the existing vaccine, writing, "This is an unjust alternative choice, which must be eliminated as soon as possible."
And just who says that the Vatican and the Church are actually fonts of wisdom of any sort? That the Vatican, in it's infinate lack of wisdom, has problems with this is actually an excellent reason to go ahead and have the vaccine.
Stop making this about religion. This is about science and critical thought, two things that are anathema to all organized religions.
Uhhh wrong...the Rubella vaccine comes from a weakened strain of the virus. If the vaccine came from tissues of a theraputic abortion and the embryo had Rubella then we should be thankfull they were aborted because the baby would be born severly developmentally disabled!
I had all the childhood diseases, and am extraordinarily healthy in my late 50's. My titers are extremely high.If you do not permit your immune system to exercise, it will weaken.I believe this is making us more susceptible to diseases we have less tools to fight off.  It is better for our children to get these childhood diseases and fight them off, then to receive so many questionable chemicals in their small bodies. In this day and age, we have more supportive medicines for childhood diseases. And if you choose to be vaccinated, then you don't have to worry, right?
It is better for our children to get these childhood diseases and fight them off, then to receive so many questionable chemicals in their small bodies.
And what about the kids who are unable to fight them off? "Acceptable losses"?
Live viruses require animal or human cells as a host for production of more virus. Frequently a chicken egg is used, as is the case with influenza vaccines. With rubella, the resulting vaccine does not protect humans when made from chicken egg media. So it is made with embryonic tissues. These are not diseased tissues.
Yes..you are correct that the live weakened virus originally came from human embryonic fibroblast cells. However it was from one theraputic aborted embryo from England in the 60s. These same cells have continued to grow in the labs since then.
freedman1, I've got news for you. You are NOT freed at all. You have allowed yourself to be brainwashed and because of that you have lost the concept of individuality and of critical thought. These are attributes of free people everyone, and when you chose to deny them to yourself, you put yourself into the ranks of slaves and not among the ranks of free persons anywhere.
Thanks for the info Freedman. This is a topic I have personal interest in because I am in the healthcare field and have had to be vaccinated many many times because my titers always come back negative. If one person comes into our ER with measles I will have to leave work for an entire month required by CDC!
Polio is not around any more because parents got their kids vaccinated. Of course, polio leaves a person's body much different after they have had it. With polio, the results are visible, with measles the damage is not so visible. We seem to me more frightened by polio because the damage is visible and forever.
To say we should not be vaccinating our children is absurd and ignorant. We can be sure that those folks who choose to remain unvaccinated, and perhaps handicapped for the rest of their lives as a result, will expect the vaccinated to pay their medical bills and support them the rest of their lives.
Before vaccines were available, I had both. Luckily, I was not severely damaged by the polio and was able to go to college, have a career and family. Not everyone I knew was so lucky. Did our kids get vaccinated? You bet they did.
I sincerely hope that this measles spreader did not infect any pregnant women as we know what the damage to the child will be.
I wonder if the measles girl had her polio vaccination. She probably does since polio might make her ugly and disgusting. Measles probably wouldn't.
Having polio and measles are much worse than having the vaccination.
Wrong. Polio is still around. It ought to be eradicated by now, but it's not. WHO and other international health organizations are working hard to vaccinate everyone who hasn't been vaccinated, but there are hampered in this not by governments and not always (sometimes but not always) by geography but attitudes, including by religious leaders who inculcate their followers with the idea that vaccines are attempts by Westerners to poisoning a given population.
Polio is also still around in pockets of North America, again among groups who refuse and refute science in the name of religion.
I had the Sabin vaccine when it was first available. I was about 4. I remember having had the measles. It wasn't a lot of fun, and the thing that I most resented about it was having to be in a quiet and darkened room to protect my hearing and my vision. I don't think that I've ever been so miserable and so bored at any other point in my life.
A simple fact that people seem to over look, while not so worried about contracting these diseases is the fact that they cause birth defects in the fetus' of pregnant woman. Some innocent child will live with life long effects of ignorance.
Peter your veiw is well taken. Please check your medical facts though and see that it is GERMAN MEASLES not measles that can cause POSSIBLE birth issues. The man onboard had an unknown case of infection of ordinary measles. How many people I wonder even bother to think about sitting next to another human being at any public place wondering about whether or not that person has a communicable disease??????? Living is a chance you take.
That is not true. My daughter was warned when she was pregnent because she has no immunities to the measles. She was vacinated but needs to be revaccinated
Immunizations are the single most important medical miracle of the last century. Those who do not take advantage of it due to fear and ignorance should be isolated from the majority of society that takes care of their health and that of their children.
It has been my privilege to enforce this mandatory immunization law as a school nurse for the past 17 years.
Correction - immunizations are the single most important medical miracle ever. But they long predate the last centrury. See Edward Jenner. His An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae, a Disease Known by the Name of Cow Pox was published in 1798.
And on a personal note, thank you for your years of delivering a truly essential service.
This is the most assinine news flash I have ever seen...horror of horrors you were exposed to measles....PLEEEEASE, how did we ever survive the 50s and 60s. We were exposed to far worse than this and most of us came through without ever noticing it. Chicken pox, mumps, measles, whooping cough, german measles polio and the list goes on. I can see the headlines next week "Man arrives in New York with a cold"....".Woman boarded airline coughing without cough drops"...."Child goes outside to play, exposed to germs"......what sort of generation have we produced.
Many people didn't survive, robert. Many died, were disfigured, lived in iron lungs. I am old enough to remember neighborhood kids who died.
Yes, perhaps we would have a stronger population if we took every three week old baby down to the sewage treatment plant for a quick swim and exposure. The weak ones would be culled from the gene pool and only the strong would make it. Sounds like a plan.
You say you are an educator. How do you feel when one of your students dies needlessly? Does it even matter to you?
If there were an HIV vaccine would you get it? Measles, whooping cough, chicken pox etc. does kill people. If your child or grandchild died or was born with severe disabilities because of one of these childhood illnesses maybe you would think differently!
Sorry Robert, but people in the late 50's & 60's WERE immunized! Perhaps you just don't recall it? But I know for a fact that I started kindergarten in 1960 & we were ushered off to the firehouse that yr for polio & measles/chicken pox imunizations. For some reason, there maybe wasn't yet, or I didn't get a rubella (german measles) & caught it a couple yrs later. So you were right about the german measles! None the less my mother carrying my brother caught it from me & my brother has paid the price for it his whole life.
Peter-2885517, we (I started kindergarten the same year that you did) didn't get the rubella vaccine because it wasn't available.
In fact, when my youngest sister was diagnosed with rubella my mother put all of girls in the same room, in the hopes that we would also come down with it. We were all pre-pubescent at the time, and of course, having rubella at that age would rarely do us any harm, but would vouchsafe our potential children from the horrific disabilities that result when a woman comes down with rubella while pregnant, even before they know that they are pregnant.
It didn't work for me, but as an adult, as soon as that vaccine was available, I chose to be vaccinated.
Perhaps we should start verifying each passenger for thier personal immunization records? Airlines currently require pets that travel to be seen by a vet with a very recent certificate, stating they are in good health to travel, and updated with vaccinations. Once checking in at the counter, the airlines will take this certificate, and call the vet's office to verify the certificate is valid. Kind of annoying, but to what protection's will segments of socieity to take the extra step and responsibility, to assure other passengers that another area of 'safe to fly' is taken? Especially when it comes to parents and their children? Few parents will want their children to grow up permanently disabled, in which lifelong care will probably fall on the parent shoulders. Personally, I am a Grandma, and about the only one living, and not addicted, that all my adult children and grandchildren look onto, at least for a role model and guidance in their lifetimes. So please, if you don't care, keep in mind there are many others that DO care, and not to get vaccinated, or get on a plane ill, has already proven for me...such as a long planned trip to help out my daughter's family with an overworked husband, a young child, help long distance, while she is happily bringing another grandchild in the family, we were all exposed (and some of us) came down with the flu, just because of one person 'that didn't care (about themselves). God Bless All of You!
Who cares? That is a racist, ignorant, and completely irrelevant question and demonstrates that all you care to do here is incite hateful fearmongering rather than thoughtful discussion.
freedman1, you are missing the point here. IPfreely's hobby is trolling and, like his name says, peeing on others, and generally being a dick. He has nothing to offer anyone. Check out his other posts and you will get the drift of what he is up to. It has nothing to do with the topic at hand, vaccination, measles. It only has to do with his need to be sarcastic, mean, and hateful to people he doesn't know or care about. If he has a family, wife and kids, he abuses them too. He is an abuser.
I know for sure I received the MMR vaccine in middle school and probably when I was a young child as well. I am now 28 and am pregnant with my 2nd child only to find out I am not immune to the measles anymore. I now have to wait until after I deliver to get vaccinated again. Supposedly this vaccine can wear off over time.
freedman1, you're showing once again that you are anything but free.
Both measles and chicken pox can KILL. With that in mind (and I do say that loosely), why would anyone want to risk their or ther child's life by NOT being vaccinated?
Polio and Measles are still around. Here we have the knowledge and tools to protect ourselves and our children. Those who choose not to or can't vaccinate depend on those us who do vaccinate to protect them. I will care for mine and yours, because the tragedy of death from these diseases is all to real. Polio, Measles, Chickenpox all kill, and will, kill again. To hold the hand of a grieving parent who has lost a child or loved one and to hear the words... "If only... So very sad.
Just because you have been vacinated does not mean you are immune. My daughter had all the vacines and when they tested her while she was pregnant they found she had no immunity.

You say: "EXACTLY this is NOT news who cares.... only the palin stupids didnt get vaccinated and who cares if they go 6ft under en masse"
Funny ... I read the article twice and saw no reference to any Palin.

I was vaccinated and still got the measles when I was in High School.
I was wearing a seat belt and was still injured in an automobile accident. Seat belts are worthless, aren't they? By your logic, of course they are!
skull ... there are several types of the measles virus. Brenda's point is well taken. Yours, not so much.
5% of the population does not develop antibodies to the virus after the shots. So even if you get the immunization you are not immune. You can get a titer to see if you are immune.
Were you vaccinated against rubella or rubiola, and which did you get? Be specific, because they are two different maladies.
If you are foolish enough to not vaccine yourself or your children, then you should live apart from society. Why should the rest suffer just because a person wishes to ignore basic science?

Well said, Elaine.
Sounds like another example of an illegal criminal alien. They hardly ever get vaccinations.
The highest risk is actually to children in the womb who can be born with terrible deformities and brain damage and people whose immune systems are compromised (vaccinated or not). So not getting vaccinated most certainly poses a risk for the general population.
That is not true, read up on 'herd immunity'.
Elaine,
Someone who chooses not to get vaccinated may not put me personally at risk, but since a baby cannot get the MMR vaccine until 1 year of age, and since immunocompromised children (for example, children with cancer) can't get live vaccines at all, that unvaccinated person could go around infecting newborns and kids with cancer with a disease that might kill them.
Nice incoherent spew you have there! So tell us, do you use the new teflon-coated aluminum foil for your hats?
Go to any reputable health website and you'll find that the vaccine-autism link has been disproved by a large study. Go to any reputable news website and you'll find the doctor who published his study which set off the vaccine-autism scare is under investigation.
"Basic science isn't much of an argument..." that pretty much explains were you are coming from, DH, the land of the nut cases.
DH..you are an idiot...too bad there isn't a vaccine for that!
" not a wussy", ROFLMAO, yep, being a tough guy" protects you and keeps everyone around you safe.
with a little luck , dh will get some immunizable disease that will render him sterile.
Comment # 5 restored. You made a good argument in your comment, DH-356393, but next time leave out the "you dumbass" part.
Everyone else, please mind # 1 of the Code of Honor, as well.
What a great idea! STAY HOME when you're sick! People don't do that anymore! Guess they're afraid they'll lose their jobs.
Maybe this passenger didn't realize she was sick--or she only thought she might be coming down with a cold...why miss an expensive flight because you're coming down with a cold?
barney-312547
"it would be quite rare, I would think, if someone were to die from them."
If you can read, you can succeed. Globally, the death rate is about 2%.
if you read the article you would have seen that hundreds of thousands of people die every year (world wide) from measles. back in the 60's when children were vaccinated people were still getting measles and it was devasting for pregnant women/unborn children. read your history many died.
Staying home when you know that you're sick is one thing, but how do you stay home when you are infectious but BEFORE you know that you're sick?
that's how I got chicken pox (this was before a vaccine was available).
visited a friend, called the next day, and friend tells me "I have chicken pox". sure enough, two weeks later, it was my turn. and not much fun at twenty
Assuming that you survived the diseases as a child, that is. Those who didn't, well, they're not around to contradict you.
Small pox didn't wipe out the planet but it did kill millions.
yep, your "belief" is a far more reliable indicator than intense study , testing, scrutiny and analysis.
Don't feel bad. I noticed my titers get a little larger every year also.
And what about the kids who are unable to fight them off? "Acceptable losses"?
Kids having the common cold is more than enough to kick start their immune systems, without endangering their lives or the lives of anyone else.
Your post is offensive, because it advocates the laissez fair policy that kills people.
Wise up and stop playing Russian roulette with MY life and with the lives of others. You don't have that right.

Peter, you are absolutely right. Obviously this measles spreader did not care about other women's unborn children. It is both ignorant and selfish.
Dear Robert,
If there were an HIV vaccine would you get it? Measles, whooping cough, chicken pox etc. does kill people. If your child or grandchild died or was born with severe disabilities because of one of these childhood illnesses maybe you would think differently!
Tewi, I really have not offered an opinion today. However, no, I would not get an HIV vaccine. My odds of catching it are slim to none.
I believe the point is to let those who may have traveled in close proximity to the carrier know that they may have contracted the disease...

Her name was Juanita Gonzalez Guadalajara..who's taking bets that she was mexican?
Who cares? That is a racist, ignorant, and completely irrelevant question and demonstrates that all you care to do here is incite hateful fearmongering rather than thoughtful discussion.
Click on his name above and look at his other posts and you will see what he/she is up to.
are you a stalker, grump? get a life.
I clicked on your name and all it said was Ignoramus
Can't stop, can you? It's all you have to offer.
obviously you can't either, that's why you replied.
Ok freely, then I challenge you to resource that name - Juanita Gonzalez Guadalajara.
I'm guessing you simply made it up.
Freedman, you're not the sharpest tool in the shed, are ya?
uhhhhhh DUH...I did. It was called "being sarcastic"...
Sarcasm usually has a point, usually an ironic one.
I guess I missed your point. Would you mind breaking it down a little?
freedman1, you are missing the point here.
If you actually catch the measles, your immunity never wears off. Same for chicken pox.
...to that particular strain...
Congrats on the little one. Hope all goes well.
freedman1, you're showing once again that you are anything but free.
Both measles and chicken pox can KILL. With that in mind (and I do say that loosely), why would anyone want to risk their or ther child's life by NOT being vaccinated?
I'd rather not catch the measles and just get vaccinated again when the baby is born! =)
don't worry about this one woman. WORRY, about the millions of illegals that are flooding the southwest.
Worry. Then get vaccinated and vaccinate them too.
