I'm following this story in the Houston papers and from what I understand, the woman and her family are still claiming she was at home when the fire started and not driving up/going inside with groceries as two of the neighbors who assisted have said. For her to not have been home at the time of the fire will surely add on to the charges. That's sad, because the families of the little victims need to know the truth and yet she's keeping quiet to save herself from any more legal trouble.
Obviously she was not inside for very long regardless of where she was when the fire started, because in the photos of her standing outside the house in tears she looks clean and not in the least disheveled as one would be in frantically trying to seek out and carry children out of a smoke-and-blaze filled house. My guess is she opened the front door and was met with smoke in the entryway, so she went back out without trying to brave the smoke and get to the rooms where the kids were, instead calling for help to the neighbors who went around back to try and get the kids out. Tragic...young lives lost and damaged, families wrecked, and a 22-year old woman's future ruined because of poor planning and decisions. I'll be interested to see how this case turns out and how much time she gets.
Agree 10 years not enough where is the person Jackie that home daycare is licensed to? Did this employee have the proper training ( looks like no she didn't) if not Jackie should also be charged. And this should be murder if proven she was not there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It said in a different article that it was licensed to Jessica Tata, maybe Jackie is her nickname? Very sad thing. I sincerely hope what the neighbors said wasn't true because I can't imagine leaving seven toddlers alone to go to the store...
My heart goes out to the family of those precious babies.....My God comfort your pain... Any I would also like to pray for Jessica Tata may God be with you...Because if it was me I would be on my knees to God because this is way to much for you to handle along knowing those babies die while in your care.... May God give you the strength to face this..... Be Bless......
Not enough information really to feel one way or the other....Other than this person put the lives of these children/babies in harms way....there really is no excuse when you have the lives of other's in your's and have been approved by the state to be a licensed and safe healthy caregiver to children, especially that many....that is too much, one there should have been at least 2 or 3 handling that many children and two, if these are all babies toddlers, what in the heck are you having to cook? Only if this was the fault of faulty wiring or an old unit only then should she be fined, but it does not seem to be the case....also, if she did leave where did she go? Need alot more info..
Those little ones must have been terrified beyond comprehension....If she left the kids unattended when the fire broke out, she should get 4 life sentences - one for each life she negligently took.
Unbelievable, she has fled the US and was able to get on a plane and fly to Nigeria...The unraveling of this story is going to be interesting....I can not believe it....News update tonight....this came out of nowhere....what now?
Oh my Lord, what has gotten into people? Why does anyone have the ability to be a provider? Why don't parents do more random stop-ins to check on the place through out the day?
Before all of you people go off: My kids were in daycare for 3 months ONCE. This is why my kids have never been inside of one since.
1) You really do not know who is ACTUALLY watching your children. Put a tape recorder in the bottom of the diaper bag, and hide it. You would be amazed what goes on. I was appalled.
2) The first time I did a random drop in, the woman was "in the bathroom". For 15 minutes. I stood and waited for her to make her grand entrace. Real nice.
3) The second random: Why are there rated R movies on for 2 and 3 year olds?
2 and 3 led to #1. I am a very protective mother, and as of that point, I quit my job and jerked them out. Went to DFS, told them that what I saw, made a complaint, and made arrangments so that my family would bounce them around between three and four houses every week so that I was at ease. Ya know what? My bosses helped out too, allowing me to break my lunch up so I could take them between places if I had to.
Where is this cowardly scumbag at? I want to choke the living daylights out of her. How dare she leave the country. I blame the Houston DA for dropping the ball. If she doesn't get caught, I hope Karma bites her in the fat a$$.
I wondered how long this would take. Kids can not be left alone at that age. Looks like she's going to pay for that mistake!

10 years is not long enough.

These people need to stop raising our children.
