Poiuy, the same TYPE of individual who put poison in Tylonal bottles in the states. Or the guy in the Nethlands who killed a bunch of kids in a pre school.
That kind of person is nuts.
What is your point? That China does this and not individuals?
What is especially loathsome are the companies that doctor baby milk powder. People in China who can afford it get their baby milk powder in Hong Kong where all the major Japanese and American baby milk is imported from those 2 countries.
We live in mainland China and have a 10 month old baby and anything that goes on or in the kid we buy in Hong Kong.
Almost every week there is a new food scandal popping up. I used to buy Chinese mushrooms and remarked to my wife how white they were..well come to find out the farmers use industrial bleach to whiten them.
In China when food shopping it is buyer be very very aware.
A few instances and you proclaim like that is all of China.
Yes, China's food safety laws are not that strong, but it is getting better. I live in the central part of China, ex pat, and I have no choice, and I feel the food here is safe. I buy direct from farmers.
About the mushrooms, there are many varieties, from white to dark. I fail to understand why someone would bleach mushrooms.
In the USA, our beef, chicken, pork, etc is loaded with hormones. Vegetables are loaded with pesticides. Apples are one of the worst, yet we feed our children gallons of apple juice.
Seems to me, while you are trying to get your ducks in order, you're more paranoid then having common sense, and that paranoia is creating a lot more expense.
PS food scandals happen in the USA, food is recalled for having high bacteria counts to too much chemicals. China is getting better, but no country is perfect when it comes to food.
tea party supporters and those who advocate for deregulation..pay attention to stories like this. this could be any farm in the u.s. absent regulations. but this is just the type of cuts the tea party wants to make. cut the agencys's budgets so they can't do their jobs. buyer beware.
I have not heard of ANY Tea party supporters wanting to cut regulations on food production and handeling. Please provide further information to back up your stupid remarks.
Dave the Doubter, tea party is one big accident-- have you noticed that the popularity has waned, especially after some of the most ardent spokesman have been proven to be paranoid freaks. Glen Beck ring a bell?
Don't buy food that is a "product of china". Read some of the articles about china how they are routing their honey to places like singapore before coming to the U.S., so it says singapore on it instead of china. China uses chemicals that arent' even allowed in the U.S., and add corn syrup to their honey to make more volume. Read about how those bags of frozen fish that say China on it, are really cheaper types of fish labeled differently. They have no laws, use chemicals and antibiotics not even allowed here, and that stuff ends up in food. When you are at the grocery store, make sure the items you buy are from the U.S.
Joe, while I agree with you on some points. BUT there has been reports of tainted foods being sold right here in the good ole USA, grown and raised here also.
Salmonella is present in a lot of American foods. OH remember the bastard that was selling tainted eggs just a month or so ago. He was not Chinese. How about the Tomato scare not long ago? Seed sprouts that people put in salad ring a bell?
Yes I try to buy "Made in US" products, no doubt about that. But with the American companies shipping their goods to China and others, you don't have too much of a choice anymore.
Good points Dave. You could go on and on with your list.
irrert Post # 3 I see that you have taken the page from Sen. Charles Schumer. Place the blame on the "Tea Party People."
I think that the media needs to keep replaying Schumer's speech about dumping all the problems on said Tea Party. He did not know, when he said it, that he was still being recorded. I noticed this line was being used by many in the fight over the budget.
China? The least of my concerns with them is the way they handle their food problems. I am a little more concerned with the massive Navy they are building and the railroad under construction from Lhasa to Syria.
Yes indeed, when we look at the track record of our FDA they have failed time and again to protect the people, and the food supply. This is their job. Cut them and let the states handle these issues as is their Constitutional right.
We have had decades of "tainted" this and that. Johnson and Johnson "The Family Company" didn't even get a slap on the hand for the dangerous baby wipes they were producing. Were they even ordered to pull them from the shelves?
I suspect the FDA to be on the take. Why would they allow our cows to be injected with so much that many people consider to be dangerous? Today I read that milk cows in America are being injected with "human genes."
Years and years of "tainted greens." The FDA studies this for a year or so to find the cause and then place the blame on a small herd of cows miles from the tainted farm. Poor little cows.
The FDA failed to note that the pickers, mostly in America illegally, are paid by the basket full. They failed to point out that the "johnnie-on-the-spot," the portable bathrooms were located five miles from the field. What would a "picker" decide to do, loose all that money or use the field? Does that make you feel a little sick?
No, it is not as Chuck Schumer wants you to say, the problem is not with the tea party. The problem is with a bunch of over-paid, lazy, liars who work for the FDA and are paid by We The People with our hard earned money.
My personal experience with them was forty years ago. Following two days of meetings with several of their higher-ups over getting their permission to sell a very safe agricultural product, ( all natural, all organic ), I was invited by two of them into another private room. It was made obvious to me, at that moment, that this issue could be resolved with a briefcase of used twenties.
China? We had best look at our home first. Please count the number of times just plain old simple lettuce and spinach has had to be recalled in the last five years alone. Please tell me why human cells are being injected into milk cows for the consumption of the children of our country. That seems very weird to me and I do not believe that the tea party, who ever they may be, has a hand on the teat of this.
I would argue that the FDA is understaffed, not that it should be disbanded, also, leaving it up to individual states would be a disaster, as poorer states and those more susceptible to lobbying dollars will be overrun by products with virtually no regulation at all.
As awful as it sounds, it is often times cheaper to face the risk of lawsuits over a product than it is to just develop a safer (but less profitable) one.
The baby-wipes are a fantastic example of cut corners to save a buck. Less regulation, or state-run regulation is NOT going to solve that.
If states controlled regulation, you would see states like Delaware become the bastion of ALL production, because I'm sure they would not impose ANY regulation.
Now, with everything produced in Delaware, these products are just going to be shipped out EVERYWHERE!
Instead of having one cohesive health/safety standard, you'll have something similar to state-pollution regulations where CA and NY will have their own super-high standards while Idaho and Montana would have almost none...it wil be more expensive because these companies will not be able to sell in certain states unless they either adhere to the ridiculous standards of NY and CA or make 2 separate versions...which causes waste...your choice.
Anyway...I followed up on your mention of human DNA introduced into dairy cows...holy crap!
We need to clear the lobbyists out of DC, this is getting out of hand! the USDA and FDA are definitely on the take, and all too often, agri-business has a firm grip on safety policy! Look at how they constantly fight with the FDA on trying to loosen the "certified organic" label requirement so that they can literally false advertise! They already won being able to not have GMO categorized as artificial!
i'm sure this person will die of either suicide or natural causes very soon. wouldn't surprise me if a few others are found hanging (commit suicide) with their hands tied behind their backs too.
Nah, this isn't Kenneth Lay of Enron. China makes no bones about their criminals.
They'll just kill him, charge his family for the bullet, and an allocation of the soldier's time and the body's disposal. And that will be that.
The real question is whether this person is actually the one behind it, or if it is a much more pervasive problem from a large industrialized producer.
milk is a big deal in china. and to cause panic isn't a good thing. they will also need to save face. the best way to save face is to have 2 things happen. the government needs to find a person or group guilty and execute them. and they also can isolate the problem if someone commits suicide. this should calm the masses into buying china made milk products. if you have money in china, and many people do, they will buy imported milk products. i do like how china sends a bill to the family. it's a good idea....
Indeed. China has found a fall-guy. This unlucky soul may just be the target of a small tin-pot fascist running a small rural town.
I've heard horror stories from a few expats that its critically important to keep your head down and not to draw attention, positive or negative from authority figures, lest you be railroaded by someone looking to make a name for themselves.
Out here, scumbags like that are at least occasionally exposed like the DA in the Duke Lacrosse scandal (though I think the problem is a lot more pervasive than many imagine).
Edgar W Smith, I am an ex pat who lives in China for the last 5 years and I have none of the fear that those ex pats you talk about have -- in fact, I have never met an ex pat who lives here who feels that.........so I think you are making up stuff or badly misinformed.
The truth is in the pudding, come over here and see for yourself - but something tells me you won't, you just want to chicken squawk about things you know nothing about. Which makes you chicken.
my brother is in china now, want to visit him and my wife is chinese, want to talk to her? i know allot more than you do. i'm sure of it! and it's not ex pats i'm talking about, i'm talking about chinese buying the milk, can you read? by the way, it's powdered milk jimbo......find that in the news..........enjoy your chicken friend rice..you get an interpreter yet long time.....
Edgar, I am sorry, but I don't believe anything of what you say...........nothing, and the proof is in the pudding.
Get your butt over here and prove me wrong. But something tells me you're as chicken as the day is long. Misinformed China haters are always that way. Always.
what are you doing in the middle of china, you in wuhan? you know the french are there so my guess is you're eating pastries. watch out for the small dicks, they'll lie right to you and you won't know it......i'll be easy to recognize, i'll be the one having a good time with your girlfriend.....
China has a problem. Obviously there are profiteers who don't care what they do to their own people as long as they make more money.
The Chinese don't have a monopoly on those people. Look at some of the corporations and conservative politicians in the US.
There is even a few that post here on Newsvine, Huh Wakehead? "Conservative Politicians"?????
This is about an INDIVIDUAL who did this, not someone trying to make a profit.
Shame on you for twisting this into your own version of China.
"This is about an INDIVIDUAL who did this, not someone trying to make a profit.

And what version of China is one with an individual who would kill babies that did nothing to harm them ?
