Funny how the lengthy story on this disappeared, the one where the company spokesman encourages people to continue to use the 2,000 per injection treatment when the 50.00 works just as well. They slightly altered their own existing drug, which failed as a cancer treatment. When an application for treating retinal bleeding in macular degeneration came up they immediately slightly altered it, got FDA approval, and raised the price 4000%. I've had 14 of the injections. I'm getting ready to start them in my other eye.
This is a contemptible company and, I believe, represents much of our health care system problems. I hope the company rep who continues to lie for profit, ends up in need of his own product. I hate that I have to pay them even for the less expensive one. My doctors told me it was basically a scam. Disgusting. Let's hear it for corporate American, especially in this field.
All drugs, therapies and products/equipment should be required to demonstrate outcomes vs. costs. In addition, all new drugs need to be compared in a similar process with exisitng drugs from all companies. Drug companies historically do "isolated" research on each new drug when an existing drug may be less expensive with a better outcome. A "new" drug with a meaningless added ingredient and a different colored capsule, should be not be allowed on the market.
Drug companies will hate this story........

This can only mean that Avistin will cost 5-10 times more than it does now.
