I had identical twins at 35 and was very healthy until recently (18 years later). The twins were born premature but are now healthy. I did not have any children after them but did have one child who was 10 when the babies were born. I would agree with the article that I was physically strong because I did live through their childhood.
Very interesting study/article... but I wish that the author would realize that IVF is not the only ART used that creates a higher rate of multiples. There are various methods used that can end up with twins or more.... IVF is just ONE method used for infertility.
I'm just happy they at least made the distinction between naturally conceived twins vs. assisted conceived twins. People tend to be ignorant about twins in general so I appreciate the occasional surprise. :)
K, had twins & they sucked the life out of me if you ask me :) Might live longer in the end, but it has taken nothing, but hard work to keep up with them as all you twin moms know. Twins run in our family, so genetics is definitely part of it :)
Very interesting study! I have a 4 1/2 year old son that was born Aug. 2006. I also have a set of fraternal twin girls that were born Nov 2008. I was 38 1/2 weeks when they induced me with the girls and I delivered them both Vag birth. Baby A was 7 lbs. 1 oz and 20 in. long. Baby B was 6 lbs. 12.5 oz and 19 1/2 in. long. I got pregnant again in July 2009 with another set of twins but I miscarried them both at almost 9 weeks. Now I am currently 16 weeks pregnant with another set of twins and due to give birth Oct. 2011. Hopefully my birth experience this time around will be just as easy with no complications as last time :)
Should be interesting if I live longer due to having my fraternal natural twins. I know they sucked the life out of me during pregnancy & still feeling the side effects to this day. Luv them so much that all the side effects dissapear when I think about them, but should be interesting to see if I can follow the statisics :)
I had a set of twin boys, fraternal, although hardly anyone can tell them apart and they are now 7 years old. They have always looked alike, stayed the same size and height and have same features. They were naturally conceived and I was 35 years old. The boys were a day past full term when the doctor induced. They both headed for the door at the same time and stayed there for 10 hours. There was very little, if any, room to move. Before pregnancy, I was 5'7" and weighed 119 lbs, so full term twins was stretch for my body. Other than that I did not have any serious health issues. My feet are a size bigger now. :-) The doctor had to give up on labor and take them cesarean. Hunter was born 7lbs 11 oz and Alex was 7lbs 2oz. Two full size, full term, healthy babies. If they had been born early as predicted, it probably would have saved my tummy for being so stretched out, since most of the major growth and stretch marks happened the last 5-6 weeks. I nursed them both and they have never had any serious health issues or illnesses. As babies, they never had more than a sniffle. Probably because they were never in daycare. I took them with me everywhere. They were fascinated by the travel and going all the time, I guess it was entertaining. I am a real estate broker, so I even took them in their portable carriers to open houses. They were entertained and happy. As they got older, I had to keep working to support us, so at the age of 3 1/2 years old I found a pre-school. It was the first time I had ever left them anywhere for more than a couple of hours. I know by then I needed the break also, but the separation was difficult. Now, we had a few illnesses, nothing serious, but wow! For about 6 weeks, the babies and myself had every cold, flu, strep or whatever bug they could bring home. It was time to be exposed and build the immune system.
I have had many comments from parents with one child or even parents that have more than one child but not at twins. Some would come right up to me when they had been watching me with my babies and say, " wow, you are brave, to have them out here, shopping or going out to eat, and they are so good." Others would say that they don't know how I did this when they could barely handle one. Just one wears us out terribly, how do you do it with two? It's funny, every time I was asked that question, I really did noty have an answer. I don't know, I just do. The alternative would be to stay home and feel tired and never do anything, I guess. Maybe this article is right, somehow we are given what we need to handle it. It isn't that I do not get tired, sometimes I am exhausted. I would rather be doing something than not, and that keeps me going. I think it has been good fo rthe boys too. F.Y.I., when the boys got older, thats when it made me tired more often. They are active, playful and noisy above all! Their energy is incredible. My theory is that they took some of my natural energy and my short term memory as well, on their way out of my body when they were born. I love them with all my heart. By the way, I am a single mom...all the way, no breaks from another parent here. If I lose any of my health, it will probably be my mental health. :-) Nicole
Great article! I have 2 sets of spontaneous fraternal twins (g/g and g/b) born 17 months apart (currently 31 months old and 14 months old). They have drained me physically and emotionally, but hey, I guess I'll get to grow very old with them! :)
Fascinating study!

So... how does this fair for us spontaneous triplet moms??
you'll live forever :)
This article reminds me of the Doctor Who episode named The Twin Dilemma!

interesting article....
I always assumed I was a remarkable physically exceptional person- and now this article just confirmed my suspicions. ;D

Good news since I am a mother of naturally concieved twins! Carried them for 40 weeks too and had a natural birth.
