Yes, this is completely true! I also found out that when I drink 6 cups of coffee, it alleviates “butt-pucker-ites”. That’s a condition that strikes older individuals. 6 cups of coffee prevents the butt from pucking up when passing gas. How cool is that!
Another infocommercial masqueraded as journalism paid by the coffee industry. It is amazing the mileage these kind of health propaganda receive when certain business gets greased.
Isn't it incredible that the most popular foods are always in the news for being healthy? Chocolate, wine, beer, coffee, they all are repeatedly found to have magical healing powers. Apparently the only foods worth studying are the ones that people eat anyway.
I'm raising three children under the age of 9. I drank more coffee before I had kids. These days, I'll pour a cup and then get so busy I'll forget about it. Two hours later I'll find it and stick it in the microwave. Then I'll get involved with something (recently a wolf hat for the school play) then find my coffee stone cold in the microwave. So I nuke it again. Then it's time to fold some laundry or something.
Before I know it, it's 4 o'clock and I haven't finished one cup of coffee.
Coffee is like booze - you build up a tolerance. For someone who doesn't drink a lot of coffee, 5 cups would totally tweak you out. For someone who does it regularly the effects are pretty minimal. Unless you try to stop, then the reaction to the addiction is pretty painful.
Personally I'm waiting for Anheuser Busch to sponsor a study saying a 6-pack a day keeps the doctor away.
Checker, I don't mean to be that guy... wait a second I do mean to because right now I'm going to be that guy. Anheuser Busch is now In-Bev. They do need to get their doctors on this right now.
Who comes up with these idiotic studies. We all know that drinking too much coffee has been pegged as bad in numerous studies. It must be the coffee industry that funds these things. I am not saying there might not be some truth to this but there are plenty of ways to reduce the likelihood of getting cancer and binging on coffee is just not a good one. Do they look at what these subjects are doing in other ways to reduce their risk? If you are not eating a good diet then piling coffee on top of it and saying it makes it better is just bad science.
There is known to be a lot of anti-oxidants in freshly brewed coffee, and they dwindle about 50% over time so the fresher the better (not just for taste).
Is this really useful information? Coffee causes one type of breast cancer and prevents a different type of breast cancer? Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
If I drink that much coffee per day, I won't be able to read my own writing or hold a cohesive conversation, but hey, if it lowers my risk and raises my stock...
I'm very curious to know what size "cups" were involved. A 6oz, 8oz, 12oz, etc. Most "coffee cups" we use are of the standard 12oz mug variety. It would make a big difference if they were referring to 5 12oz "mugs" vs. 5 6oz "cups".
I think you may be right (I hope so anyway, then I'm getting a good benefit from the amount I drink).
I'm thinking that all the directions for the making of coffee says for every 6oz cup, use one Tbsp of grounds. That is why I'm curious. Also, they show in their ads as being drank from those 6oz little tea cups no one uses anymore. . . I use the "normal" 12oz mug. Who the hell drinks 6oz cups?? Tinky-Winky??
Heck yeah MSNBC, finally an article that I love. Lets see if I drink 5 cups a day, which I do, and smoke a few cigs, it cancels itself out. Also it clears you out pretty good too.
I can't stand these studies. That caffeine may prevent breast cancer but:
That much caffeine daily will burn out your adrenal glands making you tired, unable to handle stress well, mental fog, lack of energy, increased food allergies, decreased sex drive, increased food cravings, decreased ability to recover from illness, or muscular weakness, among other things.
That much caffeine daily will cause insomnia which can cause heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes, among other things.
That much caffeine daily will raise your blood pressure, thicken your blood by raising level of fatty acids in the blood, irritate stomach lining, makes digestion less effective, among other things.
That much caffeine daily has been reported by the AMA to decrease bone density (or osteoporosis) in women.
I think that the best thing for most people to avoid breast cancer is to eat better foods and stay away from any kind of pseudo-drug, such as caffeine, and keep hormones in check.
most of that isn't even true and can be explained by confounding factors such as diet and lifestyle. please do elaborate on how caffeine raises the level of fatty acids in the blood - last time i checked there was no fat in coffee.
As a medical first responder we had a call on a younger guy one day with arrhythmia and shortness of breath. After a full checkout by the paramedics and finding "nothing" wrong. I proceeded to ask him some basic questions about what he had to eat that morning. Nothing to eat. Anything to drink? Yeah, 5 cups of coffee. The paramedics just stared at him and said, yeah, you're going to have to quit that. We never had another 911 call on him again.
I am a 5-cup a dayer. Yeah I don't worry about breast cancer at all since I am a guy, just it causes big swelling for overuse of another of my bodily protrusion.
Guys can get breast cancer, too. I don't know if guys can get every type of breast cancer, but they certainly can get it (albeit, it's pretty rare in comparison to women).
Men do get breast cancer and it is not a rare thing! One of our pastor's died from it and when he came to a church conferance in the late stage of it, i didn't recongnize him! Do don't kid yourself. I am hearing and reading more and more about men getting breast cancer.Check it out on the internet./
As a young 30yr old women who has survived breast cancer, i am troubled by published studies such as these. The fact is, women over 50 IN GENERAL have a higher incidence of cancer anyway, and many of them will be estrogen-neg because they are probably close to menopause.
If they really wanted use this topic in a actually helpful manner, they would look at a study of women who started drinking coffee at a young age, and it's long term effect on getting cancer for the future. DONT BELIEVE THIS BIASED STUDY. The best fight against cancer is early detection, women & men push for ultrasounds if you feel something different.
And, by the way TF-1561528, if your mother has the BRCA gene, she has a 50% chance of passing it to YOU, even if your MALE, and so you are also at high risk of getting breast cancer FYI

what. are you talking about? it puckers? these bodies are so weird

I can't even drink 2 or 3 cups. My gods, how do people drink 5?
Exactly. I couldn't drink five cups of coffee in a day.
Try raising young kids while trying to make ends meet.
I like it strong.Nuff said.
Lol Tai, I know what you mean. Before I had my son, I only probably drank a couple cups of coffee, now I'm in that 5 cup range, sometimes more.
A cup of coffee is only 8oz. Drinking 5 cups of coffee is only 40oz. Lots of people drink more soda than that each day.

Be specific, Pissed. Tell me about those "numerous studies." And from where did you get your degrees? For many people, five cups is not "binging."
There is known to be a lot of anti-oxidants in freshly brewed coffee, and they dwindle about 50% over time so the fresher the better (not just for taste).
Your info is dated homey.
Early studies didn't separate out smoking and alcohol consumption. Once you isolate out those factors coffee is neutral to slightly positive.

Does anyone know the answer to this? Thanks.
I'm just going to guess, but I'm thinking they were assuming 8 oz.
I'm with Nick on this one. 8oz is a cup of coffee as determined by many coffee machines.

Does this include decaf? If I drank that much regular coffee, I'd never sleep! Yikes.
They might not get cancer, but will not survive the sleep deprivation.
I'm so sick of reading this kind of crap.... and doing crack might make people happy. If you have facts, then write a story about it.

haaa! that much coffee per day will certainly wreak havoc with your heart.
bullsheet.

I don't know about you folks but I am sick and tired of these stupid bullcrap "STUDIES".
Almost every damn study will have another study next week that will say the complete opposite. Remember wine?
Stop wasteing taxpayers money on this crap!

They make these assumptions because coffee does have a very high amount of anti-oxident content.
