I have diverticulosis. About 5 years ago, I had one of the areas rupture and had to have a colon resection, colostomy, and reattachment about 3 months after that. It seems to me, one reason the flair ups may occur more in summer is the foods that are eaten more during summer months. Strawberries and tomatoes are in season. They contain many seeds, which can lodge in the pockets and cause problems. Could this be a possible cause for the seasonal fluctuation?
most probably seeds but it could be that you eat more GMO foods in the summertime, particularly corn and tomatoes. A study was done where 7 out of 40 rats died of unspecified stomach issues after 2 weeks of eating GMO tomatoes. China and India won't even take our GMO seeds. What does that say?! That they are a heck of a lot smarter than we are? Or that their gov'ments won't let corporations rule them. It will not change for us until each of us keeps our officials notified on how we feel. I just received another response today from my senator- about a different issue- but I have notified her about GMO foods. Please put in as much time contacting your reps and senators as time spent on these sites! Sorry, the rant is not directed at you per say but I hope you feel better this summer. You know, a Vita mix blender will pulverize the seeds in fruit in seconds if you want your fruit in smoothies for the summer. It turns cream into butter in less that 10 seconds. Incredibly powerful, i love mine! it is so powerful it can make any combination of foods steaming hot, as a soup, just by running it for 5 minutes. I kid you not!!! Did I say I love mine? Just no GMO's.
Corn....Corn...and more Corn.....I think there is corn at every summer function...I agree it is foods that are consumed during that time of year...I also hit the hospital last August with peritonitis and bowel resection...
i have been in the hospital 3 times in the past year with divertiulitis. Once in June, once in February and now in May. i try to avoid seeds, nuts, celery and berries. i love salads and that is part of the culprit. The other is stress. I work for the State of Kansas- we have laid 50 employees off in the past 2 years and now are doing a massive layoffs due to our new Governor and legislature cutting money and funding. My doctor says the stress is my main contributor right now as i have been very careful with my diet. i am still not completely well since February when i was in the hospital. i think the stress plus people eat diferent in the summer-bbq's, fresh fruits and salads are more readily available and we are much busier with graduations, family reunions and get togethers.

Gary Im with you 100% this is probably related to foods containing seeds.
