Thank you for posting this article - I am more a dog lover than a cat lover, however, I wish no harm to either equally - cat companions need to be warned. I started cooking for my dogs (they eat human food, cooked) 7 years ago - my vet, and I are both amazed at the difference in health and longevity for my large dogs. I have specific books, some cover cats and food you can make for them - I'd be happy to share dog or cat recipes with anyone who wanted to leave the "preservative and filler" laden dog and cat foods - and money doesn't buy a better food... Science Diet's first ingredient for dog food is corn - when have you seen a dog (a carnivore by nature) tear into a cornfield?
For recipes, just contact me through NV - may take me a few days but dog or cat, I'll get it to you. I need to know breed (if mixed give me two guesses)/weight/ideal weight/age and activity level. None of my dogs are overweight (or under) they have great coats, no dandruff, no farts, etc... - I cook in bulk and it is not very expensive to cook for your pets.
If you talk to an older person (70+) about the dogs and cats of their childhood - before dog and cat food was mass produced - they will tell you about their German Shepard dogs living 18 years from scraps of "real" food.
