At least until the little pencil-necked Feds from Virginia, who constantly hallucinate that they are something out of a Tom Clancy model, show up to kick the door down, and save America from these.....what????
I live in OR, it's quite relaxed. I've yet to hear a local complain about the medical marijuana situation. Police treat small-amount offenses like a parking ticket, if they bother doing more than confiscating.
My brother was in law enforcement for over 20 years, back in the mid-west. In all that time he received many "family disturbance" calls. They were most all related to alcohol use. None involved marijuana. Pot should be legalized for many reasons, political, social and financial.
Some ideas just seem to scream "it's about time"; legalizing marijuana is one of them. In over 40 years as a working musician, I've played at a lot of beer blasts and pot parties, and I've NEVER seen any violence or ANY sort of trouble at a pot party, alas, I can't say the same thing for beer blasts.
Knock the feet out from under the drug cartels, put thousands of DEA agents out of work, reduce the deficit, and leave working people in society where they're productive instead of warehousing them in jail where they learn to become REAL criminals all in one stroke of a pen legalizing marijuana.
Will someone remind of of the downside to all of this - without resorting to unsubstantiated histrionics?
So I'm confused. It's not legal to smoke tobacco in any building but you home in Orgeon, so how do they get away with smoking pot? Smoking is smoking why aren't all the anti-smoking people giving these guys a hard time? Smoking MJ is worse for you than tobacco is.
You said it yourself, the laws are about TOBACCO, not smoke of all kinds. The medical community is still very much unsure of how bad marijuana is for you. I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion that it is worse for you than tobacco, but needless to say you did not base that on any facts. What's your problem? Just don't go into this bar if you don't l ike it.
Daaaav, thank you for clarifying that marijuana is far less dangerous a drug than tobacco but you are also incorrect in regards to the medical community. Late in 2009 the American Medical Association changed it's tune on medical marijuana after it had proven to contain several medical benefits in it's natural form. It has been reported that the only real danger that comes from smoking marijuana is, naturally, the ingestion of burning vegetative matter.
You can't smoke in most bars in Oregon, however, there are exceptions, as I know of at least 2 cigar bars in Portland. They must fall under the exemption.
I'm from Portland. The smoking laws depend on the city in Oregon. Except for the cigar bars and this marijuana bar, smoking is illegal in all bars in Portland as of 1/1/2009. Some bars in other cities still allow smoking.
So proud to be from this awesome city! I would not be surprised at all if MJ was legal here in the next 10 years.
I am so anti-tobacco and so for smoking pot. I'm one "anti-smoker" that won't give stoners a hard time for as long as I live. Does that answer your question? And even though we don't have the research to tell us the "bad" effects of smoking pot, I can tell you that pot has never killed anyone... While "More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from HIV, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined." (www.cdc.gov) See? Illegal drugs is included in that, which marijuana is currently a part of. Tobacco is the biggest murderer in this country. Quit denying the truth. BAM!
Larry your a freak I don't give a RAT'S AZZ if your a veteran you need to leave the space bar alone and do like the rest of the so-called Vets and file for some fraudulent disability. And John you are confused second hand smoke is BS anyway and besides the second hand smoke from cannabis has benefits you get a BUZZ! Enjoy it and Shut The Hell Up.
How is second hand smoke BS? You said yourself you get high from the smoke of the marijuana (which I know is true from experience). Well, you can also get cancer and other smoking related disease from the second hand smoke of tobacco. Constantly being around second hand smoke is just as bad as smoking the tobacco yourself. I can also speak on that from experience because my parents didn't believe in second hand smoke and I now suffer from breathing difficulties and have a 30% increased chance of developing lung cancer or heart disease. While I enjoy smoking cannabis, I am forever plagued by the repercussions of two parents who didn't believe in second hand smoke. Please educate yourself better.
Think of all the part time jobs for your kids that would be eliminated! Let's not put it in a store where someone would check ID's, like liquor and cigarettes. Let's not eliminate the violence of our gun toting south of the border friends by allowing America to produce it's own legal product and eliminate these nice people from the market place. Let's not stop crowding our prisons with these people so we have to let the violent criminals out to make room for these horrible pot smokers. Let's not begin collecting taxes on a multibillion dollar industry. After all, it's working so well like it is, and America doesn't need the money.
America needs to wake up an smell the "Colitas". We would not have a defecit if this herb was legalized, markets and taxed as Liquor is. We as a nation are really stoopid.
I agree. We need more of these places if for no other reason as a testing ground to work the bugs out of the system while providing a place for people to go and not be in fear, or singled out. kudos. Do they have a "movie night" I can think of several that would be a good experience!
May I offer all of you a little challenge? Run a search for "Granny Storm Crow's MMJ Reference List" and just read the titles of the medical studies and articles that I have collected. Here's the titles of a few I gathered from WebMD, a very respectable medical site- it is most definitely NOT a front for "High Times"!
"Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's"
"Marijuana Chemical Fights Hardened Arteries"
"Marijuana Ingredients Slow Invasion by Cervical and Lung Cancer Cells"
"Marijuana's Active Ingredient Targets Deadly Brain Cancer"
"Marijuana May Fight Lung Tumors"
"Marijuana Eases Spasticity in MS Patients"
"Heavy Marijuana Use Doesn't Damage Brain"
"Chemicals in Marijuana May Fight MRSA "
"Marijuana Ingredient May Cut Fibromyalgia Pain"
"Teen Pot Smoking Won't Lead to Other Drugs as Adults"
"Marijuana Smoking Doesn't Kill"
Those titles will give you a clue about what cannabis can do! Now, you can either go over to WebMD and call them up, one by one, or you can read my List for all of them, and a lot more. My list is made up of links to PubMed, medical journals and news articles about the studies.
So, what ELSE don't you know about cannabis? You really should read up on what it does for diabetes, nausea, migraines, ADHD, epilepsy, Crohn's, PTSD and so much more! There is more to cannabis than just getting high! Run the search for "Granny Storm Crow's MMJ Reference List", read the studies and EDUCATE YOURSELF!
Thank you for pointing this out. I watched a documentary on the internet that insisted marijuana could be a cure for cancer. Don't know if it's true, but they really should conduct more research and spread the truth!
The World Famous Cannabis Cafe was just interviewed for WebMD last week. We are also featured in the amazing documentary "What if Cannabis Cured Cancer" a must see.
No drunk or drug driving accidents either. A very good start, and it seems to not be creating problems.
No alcoholic bar fights..wtg Oregon!
How cool is this? I wish Illinois would get with the program
At least until the little pencil-necked Feds from Virginia, who constantly hallucinate that they are something out of a Tom Clancy model, show up to kick the door down, and save America from these.....what????
God, I love Portland! What a groovy town! No irony here, no sarcasm--just bald admiration!
The monthly bar fee is cheaper that my Medicare Rx drug supplement insurance.
A friend of mine moved from Tampa to Portland, now I know why he left. New Amsterdam? Gotta go to checkout if Southwest flys in..............
Could Oregon be the first state to implement a sane approach to marijuana?
I always liked Oregon. . .

You wasted a lot of space to say absolutely nothing.
I live in OR, it's quite relaxed. I've yet to hear a local complain about the medical marijuana situation. Police treat small-amount offenses like a parking ticket, if they bother doing more than confiscating.
And I'll bet they do a LOT of confiscating. . . (cops always have the best weed).

It's easier to hit someone over the head with a beer bottle than with a roach clip or rolling paper.

Legalize, Educate, Medicate, Regulate!
There are exceptions for the smoking law in Oregon. I believe one of them is bars.

God this is Awful News!
Whatever you do, don't legalize pot in America!
