These researchers are full of dog @!$%#! I'm sixty years old and have been drinking coffee since I was 4 years old on my grandfathers' lap. I was diagnosed with prostate cance on November 10, 2010.
Hey! Guess What? I quite smoking 15 years ago because smoking it is bad and I didnt want to get cancer. GOT cancer anyway.
Look. Do what you want in life. Just remember moderation is the key. Though my death may come as a surprise it will not interfer with my amusement. Enjoy life!
Exactly, reduced risk doesn't mean no risk. Some people just have bad genetics that predispose them to certain things, while others just have bad luck and no matter what they have done, the dice fell a certain way.
I just hope the cancer Wind has is cured, and he/she can continue to live a good life.
You are right that these researchers are full of BS. The study is so flawed as to not amount to any sort of "scientific" study. No wonder these studies keep finding different results. None of them have any basis in science or fact. But, as long as they can get companies or government to fund them, they will continue.
A neurologist in California, who suggested that one to two cups of coffee a day is good to people's brain. But more than that is not good like drinking too much alcohol damages the brain. Which of the two studies is beneficial? Maybe tea is better than these two line of thoughts.
6 mice sized cups a day has been shown to reverse the plaque buildup in the brains of mice with Alzheimer disease. So while nobody in my family has ever had it, I'm gonna keep drinking 6 pots of coffee a day.
The debate over coffee and ill effects and benefits has been going on for years. It wakes me up, I like the taste, and I only drink 3 cups at most during the day. I feel rather safe myself. Unless they come up with something a bit later that proves it's a bad health risk, I will continue to drink it. (At home, I am not spending $3 for a cup or more at a "specialty store". lol.
Doing research for a business class in college, I had found a website (I can't find it anymore) that referenced reputable studies that demonstrated coffee's health benefits as: Reduced risk of Parkinson's, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cirosis of the liver, gout, colon cancer, rectal cancer, stomach cancer. Now we can add prostate cancer in men, and Alzheimer's.
It's debated that the caffeine in coffee can cause kidney stones in prolonged use of high quantities (more than 6 cups a day for years), but unfortunately, some of the beneficial qualities of coffee do not exist in it's decaffinated form.
In 1982 I visited Frank Zappa at his house in the Hollywood Hills for an interview (I am a journalist) and spend a day with him. I never saw a human being drinking more coffee as Frank Zappa did. You know what he died from.
Did he die drowning in a pool of coffee? BTW, his music was messed up. I mean that in a nice way though. Crazy, weird, odd, just how my brain likes to function too. RIP Zappa.

Yep, he also had radium treatment as a kid, did you know that? He was exposed to high levels of radiation before people really understood what the implications of it were. To do the treatment that he received, by todays standards, would be considered insane. They would never do it with our current understanding of radiation and cancer risk. I also believe he had lots of health problems all of his life, which is an indication of a system that is not functioning normally and is prone to break down and disease. Therefore, Frank Zappa cannot logically be used to support or refute any scientific study. He's tainted. Great music though. What a loon. I appreciate a good loon.
This is absolutely huge. A 10% drop in risk for prostate cancer for every cup of coffee you drink each day. I usually drink close to a pot a day, so I should be covered, on top of the other things I do to reduce my risk as well. I bet it reduces the risk for other types of cancer as well. Now I just need to remember to get my GARDASIL vaccine, and shift some of my investment to coffee. - RC
It didn't help me i got prostate cancer at the age of 49. And I drank a lot of coffee and other things they said would help. Why is it with all research and the drugs and operation and every other medical tools why haven't they been able to cure any ills or disease? All they do is keep you alive a little longer.
When I tried this trick this morning I could only hold 3 cups. I let it cool off first. But, when I stood up about 3 cups ran down my legs. Is this because of my age?????
It says "... the benefit is likely linked to other compounds in coffee that act as antioxidants, reduce inflammation and regulate insulin."
How about that the coffee acts as a diuretic, thus flushing the plumbing? It turns out urine typically collects high concentration of toxins that are being excreted from the body. That's how urine works. As it is channeled through the internal plumbing on its way out, small droplets of concentrated toxins are likely leftover left and right throughout the plumbing, including the prostate. (The prostate is like a manifold.) Because the poison is in the dose, high concentration of toxins may predispose surrounding cells to be intoxicated, perhaps even go cancerous. Happily, high coffee intake leads to high volume of urine that naturally dilutes leftover toxic droplets. In other words, coffee may flush the plumbing.
This reasoning is an equal or better hypothesis that the one I quoted above. It does not minimize the scientists' work... just their explanation.
This is how a good scientist thinks. Cause and effect are extremely hard to prove. People who haven't been exposed to the scientific method do not understand how or why it is so difficult to truly prove something. I think that the standard is slipping, mostly because the public likes to hear cancer and health "news" like this so it gives the researchers a lot of incentive to put out junk science. And that trend is just getting worse, and is spreading into institutions that should be completely free of fame seeking and publicity.
Just like everything else in this modern world, a thoughtful person doesn't trust any information that they hear or read, regardless of the perceived prestige or reputation of the source. What does that mean for people who can't or won't think? They are doomed to misunderstand the world they live in and the lives they lead, and I could care less. It is their choice to live life in the dark, relying on others to think for them.
Bottom line: there is no magic bullet cure or reason for any disease in a normal persons life who does not have any extreme behaviors or above normal exposure to risk factors. It is always a combination of genetics and lifestyle. Live your life. Be happy. Don't eat garbage, and you know what garbage is, so FACE IT, quit ignoring the obvious answers, quit being lazy and take action in your own life. Drink coffee if you like it, but always always drink LOTS of good clean water.
This study isn't exactly useful, nor is it prudent to drink six cups of coffee a day, especially if you have high cholesterol. All food and drink is safe in moderation.
BULLHOCKEY!!!!!!!! my grandfather drank at least 8 cups a day for as long as i knew him and he died of colon cancer in 1987!!!!!! so in closing id like to say SHOW ME SOME PROOF!!!! also what grade did these young punks get for this fictional conclusion they drew?
I'm 70 years old, retired Military, been drinking coffee since I was 10 yrs old working on a farm, thousands of gallons of coffee while I was in the military for 24 yrs, Spent the next 10 yrs teaching school, drinking gallons of coffee, and wound up with a real bad case of Prostate Cancer there is nothing in me but a big hole..............THERE IS NO PROOF........This is just another piece of BS............Makes you wonder how much government money the school received to pull of this joke.......
I'm not buying it! I have always been a heavy coffee drinker (at least according to my health care advisers). I drink between 40 and 64 ounces a day (often more) and have since I was in my late teens. At 55 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and discovered that it had already penetrated the prostatic sac. I had a radical prostatectomy and followup radiation. Three years later and I am still cancer free but I can't says "thanks to the coffee". OBTW I still drink a lot of coffee and like it strong enough that most visitors to my home add water to a cup.
I'm getting younger and healthier every day and Columbia's GDP is rising!!!
I basically have an iv of coffee tapped into my vein. My prostate should be the strongest one in the world.
Why won't the world stop shaking? Has any research been done on this yet?
Now if they just find out tobacco prevents something/anything I’ll be a happy chappie
MSNBC Newsflash: Scientific research conclusively proves that the use of tobacco prevents intimate social contact with non-smokers.
OP must be thinking about Columbian cocaine...Brazil exports the most coffee in the world.
Columbia? Is the story about cocaine or coffee?
1 cup of coffee, 1 glass of red wine, 1 cup of coffee, 1 glass of red wine, ........
Hey Mr. Bartendar give me one scotch and one beer!
And one douschbag full of coffee!
It's one bourbon, one scotch, and then one beer.....

How are they full of it? The study says coffee drinking men may have REDUCED risk, not zero risk.

Eat your beans.

If you are paying $3 for a cup of coffee you are getting ripped off. I own a coffee shop and sell a 16oz cup for $2.

Coffee is also helpful for asthma control.

Linus Pauling promoted large doses of vitamin C to help prevent cancer. Guess what he died of? Everybody! Stop eating oranges!

Trying to save a drowning witch? Eating yellow snow? What was it?

Don't fool yourself John. It was right in his poopshoot. Woooooooo!
Sir I almost loled in my pants when I read that...I wonder if he could take about an hour on the tower of power?

My boss who died of prostate cancer in 2000, drank 15 cups a day. All in the genes.
When I tried this trick this morning I could only hold 3 cups. I let it cool off first. But, when I stood up about 3 cups ran down my legs. Is this because of my age?????

Bah- I know 3 men who were avid coffee drinkers and all have prostate cancer.
Coffee = Caffeine = Stimulant = Overworking Body = Not Good for Heath = High Blood Pressure = Regular Headaches

Signed: Heavy coffee drinker
Oh well, I like coffee, I drink it all day, no sign of prostate size increase or cancer at 52, at least it gives me a reason to like coffee even more.
I'm not buying it! I have always been a heavy coffee drinker (at least according to my health care advisers). Perhaps the research was funded by Starbucks.
