This is a terrible and misguided attempt to address a serious social issue. Slut walks began because of the patronizing culture of "blame the victim" in sexual assault cases. Parading around and calling ourselves sluts completely fails to address this issue. Also, trying to lessen the derogatory meaning of "slut" will not make it any more acceptable in society or any less hurtful when hurled upon a woman or young girl. We as intelligent, socially responsible, and empowered women need to teach ourselves and those around us to treat all women with respect and common courtesy.
I once read a quote saying, "This is a nation that calls its women sluts.. or whores." Whoever wrote that must be laughing at this society's stupidity.
women have the right to do what they want, act the way they want, to self determine everything in their lives (its called equality something i support about 102%). they also have the right to suffer the consequences for any desires, actions & self determinations [i call that choices] they do. If they get raped because of circumstance from various occurances (including choice of attire, whom they are with, current inherbriation, etc), then they need to take at least some responciblity for possibly setting up the situation. They are still victums of crime but to act as if they couldn't or wouldnt prevent such crimes from something as simple as choice of attire, is foolish.
but then again, i blame fail parenting as much as anything... If we dont teach our kids to take care of themselves, regardless if they think they are immortal (or immoral), we fail.
Afmello, why dont you not box women into your 'ideal' character. Women are strong and silly and soft and aggressive - they can do what they want and call themselves what they would like to be called. Its the notion that a woman has to fit into the rules of your dress and speech or be raped that fuels these marches - we walk against you!!!!
The only person responsible for rape is the rapist. If you put two columns side by side, one side for actions males take everyday to prevent being raped and the other side for females you they are vastly disproportionate. The male side will have nothing and the female side will be filled with things like: don't walk alone at night, carry pepper spray, take self defense classes, carry your keys between your fingers, watch your drink, don't drink too much, be careful how you are dressed, etc. Women have been doing those things for years because it is what they are told to do, but the rates of rape are just increasing and not decreasing. The responsibility for NOT getting raped is put on women, when 98% of the time it is a male perpetrating the act against a female.
Additionally, in a college setting over 90% of rape survivors know their attacker. It may be the guy from class who is walking a woman home or a boyfriend who sexually assaults her. It is not the typical man jumping out at you from behind some bushes. This means a lot of the techniques that women are told to avoid being raped won't generally work.
Why should a man be able to get crazy drunk and not have to worry about being sexually assaulted and a woman can't? It is society's fault. It is time we hold the right person accountable- the rapist. Rape is not about sex, it is about power and control. If you see something that could or is leading to sexual assault step in. If you can't safely do it yourself find help- pick up your phone and call 911 if you have to. It is disgusting how often people aren't good active bystanders. If more people did bystander interventions everybody would benefit. A good example is why did it take hours for somebody to report the gang rape of a teenager several years ago when well over 20 people knew what was going on (and the person who finally reported it heard about it second hand).
I'm not sure you actually read my comment. First, at no point do I box women into a certain ideal. I simply specified three attributes which I think most women posses. Excuse me for thinking so highly of my sex... would you rather I call you a slut?
Secondly, you try to make the same point that I made, which is that the real problem is a culture of blaming the victim in sexual assault cases.
Maybe next time read more carefully before getting up on your soapbox.
Everyone else, sorry for the multiple postings. That was a glitch in signing in to the service. :)
Do you go out in the sun without sunscreen. Do you go out when it is cold without warm clothing. Crying over the injustice of the way you are treated because of the way you are dressed will definitely get some sympathy from me and probably from a great many others. But do you think that will make any difference to a rapist? I suspect he does not give a rat's patootie about political correctness. He just wants to put you in a place where he thinks you should be. It is up to you how you deal with him. But if getting sympathy is that important to you go ahead and dress in a way that you know would really turn on your significant other, just don't be surprised if it turns on someone whom you rather it did not. Or you could take the advice of those telling you how you should dress for protection...at least until you get everybody to understand that they should respect you enough not to rape you
I'm sure if you looked at statistics on women that have been raped, a very large percentage of them would NOT have been dressed "inappropriately". Do you really think that a 76 year old woman that is raped in her own home could have done anything to prevent it? Do you think a 7 or 8 year old girl that is raped by a family member dressed to "turn on" her rapist? I can't repeat this enough - RAPE IS NOT ABOUT SEX!!!!! It is about power, control, and violence against women.
Rick "He just wants to put you in a place where he thinks you should be." - Yes, because it is not about how she dresses - it is a crime of opportunity and because he thinks can get away with it. (And statistically, probably will.) Whether a "date rape" situation where she trusted him alone, or the drunken girl (it is a crime, rape, to have intercourse with someone unable to give consent), or the old "dark alley" stranger - because he found an opportunity to exploit. Young women need to be aware, and the colleges now try to tell them be safe - but sadly it falls on deaf ears sometimes.
The slut walk seems a pretty harmless way to protest, tho' not something I would advocate.
I've never understood it anyway. Guys are studs and girls are sluts. Really? Sorry, but a lot of gals enjoy sex too! And no, that isn't wrong. The Gods gave us bodies for a reason. They also gave us the ability to enjoy them too. If you want to spend your life denying your human existence, go ahead. Just curious, to what end?
As for rapists, I think a lot of people don't understand the nature of rape. It isn't about sex with a good looking gal. It is about power and control. The way one dresses has little to do with that, except in the murder novels.
You might get more unwanted advances, but you might also get more wanted advances. It's a double edged sword. Everyone has their own definition of what it means to dress "tastefully" or such other nebulous terms. Personally, I'd like the guys to dress a bit more "provocative." Not sure that's the right word, but the baggy pants and baggy non-shorts aren't it. Why do you think that straight gals are attracted to gay guys? Not all, but a lot know how to dress. Just an observation.
Rape sometimes really is about sex. Deny it all you want but ... not all the time just like not all the time is it about power. Blanket statements about causes are usually partially right and partially incorrect. The fact remains that we are all partially responsible for EVERYTHING that happens to us. Not accepting responsibility and placing the blame solely on another person seems to be what this country is all about. Own up to it, maybe you werent dressed provocative, but you coulda done something to prevent it. Fact is, there ARE bad people in the world. As a male I still am not going to walk downtown at night and if I do I am doing so KNOWING there is a good chance my white ass is gonna get beat... Would it be all or mostly my fault it happened, heck no.. would I at least acknowledge I shouldnt have been there, heck yes. This whole I do what I want when I want without thinking and being entitled to do what I want how I want and anything that happens is someones elses fault is just stupid. Any chick saying "Im a slut" well I cant much blame the guy that rapes her stupid ass all the while believing in his mind the stupid b!@$h wanted it... she is after all a slut, right?
As a kid who just got a scholarship to a major university...I was very dissapointed after reading the article. I was really looking forward to this "summer of the sluts"....Thank you msnbc, for your misleading title!
Huh, the Liberals have continued to bash anyone and everyone for over 2 1/2 years and now MSNBC is reporting this UNPROFESSIONAL jab by Schultz as something NEW ?
Good grief, on to the next news article about Mr. and Mrs. Obama's EU tour, or how taxpayers are paying for a Jello fight, or maybe about taxpayers paying for the shrimp using the tread mill.
Typical MSNBC reporting things to further divide our country while we are drowning in debt.
Afmello, I DID indeed read your post - perhaps YOU didnt! Shall I repost the section that is irritating since you seem clueless?
"Come on ladies, we can be better than this!"
WE are just fine the way we are, thank you! I doubt, highly doubt, YOU are doing anything or are involved in any way. WE dont have to be what YOU think is "better" for us or in the rules of what YOU feel a women should do or say. My point is: we are fine the way we are and with what we are doing today; we will not become victims because we are not "better" for you!
"Come on ladies, you're great and strong and are doing something to make a difference! Keep it up!"
I would counsel young ladies to see the dictionary definition of 'slut' prior to using it in reference to themselves. Wearing appealing clothes is quite proper.
JL-967114 - Why should a man be able to get crazy drunk and not have to worry about being sexually assaulted and a woman can't?
Hmm... Why is there a lady's night and not a mens night? Why is there 9 rows of footwear for women and 1 row for men? Why do most women get to go out on the town and get free drinks and food while the men have to pay? Why why why? You can cry about the injustice of things all you want. Fact is that some things just are. Rape pilliage and plunder has been the way throughout history. Is it right? No. In fact in todays society, at least in the USA, it's the time of the Woman. It's all about the Woman. Why is it ok for a Woman in the work force to say "Ok sweety" or "Thankyou honey", but if a man says that, it's demeaning to women. I am really getting tired of Women yelling about the injustice of things when they do exactly the same. And no I dont mean the rape part. Guess you women havent been reading the news papers lately, but you are commiting the same crimes we do, but get less or suspended sentances. Take for example Mrs. Bobbett, cuts her husbands penis off and throws it out a window of a car. Does less then 5 months in prison. Not on a sexual preditors list like a man would be if chopping off a womans breast. The school teacher who had sex with her 14 year old student, first time got suspended sentance. second time got 1 year in jail, got pregnant, and then ended up marrying the child. If a guy did that he would be crucified. So I guess I am saying I cant find too much sympathy because you get called a slut.
IT'S GONE TOO F ING FAR ! If I advertize something, that's exactly what it is in visual terms. The mind just doesn't change because I say it should. What many women don't understand is that men have hormones that are just as relevant or valid as their hormones, and just as powerful. They can't be shut off anymore than a woman could shut off her menstrual cycle. To think any different is insane! It's not a lot different than dangling a bate in front of a fish. The fish isn't going to shut off it's hunger instinct. Yes most men can control their hormonal urges, but their are some that can't, so why play with it? It's like playing with a bomb, just because you can! I understand the point, but it's just insane to think that changing a word in the mind is going to change a hormone. Crazy! Insane thinking! Don't play with tigers if you don't want to get bit.
Jim: Typical male response. But, there's a reason I pack one. Also, life is too short to live it in fear. Your attitude is one step away from women wearing burqas. And we all know that Muslim women never get raped, right? Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of the human body being treated as if it is some evil cast upon the earth. It's as natural as anything else in this world. There is no reason that people shouldn't be allowed to walk down the street in their own shin, if they choose. That's the problem with our society. Just the fact of making the body a taboo also increases the likelihood of abuse. If you've ever been around nudists you'd know that the mystique, mystery, or whatever you want to call it, about the human body, disappears real quick. That, in turn would put an end to all this petty control stuff. Plus, society would be a lot safer too.
Never heard more hogwash by one person in my entire life and you really believe it too. Typical Female response, " I should be able to walk down a street naked and not worry about anything." Girl, live in the real world, a place I like to call Earth. Not only would you be arrested for indecent exposure in public, but you just may get more attention from the male population then you want before you can get arrested. Put your money where your mouth is and show us your rights. Go for it.
Barry-Moore: It might be a good idea if you read an entire post and make sure you understand it before you comment on it. You'll sound a lot more intelligent that way. But, thanks for admitting that men are pigs! Well, excuse me pigs, I didn't mean to insult you. I'd spell it all out for you, but will give you a second chance to figure it out for yourself.
The thing is, we ALL need to stop judging ANYONE by their cover. Character and behavior are better indicators. And YOU CANNOT TAKE WHAT DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU. The end. Why do we put the onus on women to dress in a way so as to not attract the attention of criminals? JL is spot on.
Cause and effect are exclusive of right and wrong. Just because you feel you have a right to dress like a "slut" doesnt mean you're immune from consequences of having done so. I'm sure a rapist is not going to consider your rights to dress like a "slut" when they violate you. Common sense and wisdom would say to protect yourself from those who may not appreciate your rights to dress like a "slut".
You certainly have the right to go lay naked on a hill of ants, but don't expect that the ants will respect your right to do so and not bite you. And, don't expect people to not shake their heads at you for making such a stupid decision. We certainly don't wish bad things upon people (or shouldnt), but don't be surprised by people saying, "I told you so, you shouldve known better."
ALso, what happened to plain ole modesty in people?
Barry, your sexism is showing. "Typical Female response"?? What exactly does that mean?? As if we are all the same, think the same and respond the same? Now that is hogwash. This may be a "typical" response among a certain subset, but certainly not the entire sex.
I think the whole "slut" movement is silly, dangerous and misguided. The whole issue of rape aside, there are a myriad of very important reasons why women should not choose to present themselves to the world as little more than sex objects. I don't care how "empowered" you feel by dressing like a sex kitten -- doing so will elicit certain, at times unwanted, responses from members of both sexes. From the man who (incorrect and unacceptable as it may be) sees it as an invitation, to the middle aged woman in the business suit who sees you as insincere, shallow, and not well suited for the promotion. It is exactly the same reason young men who choose to wear their pants around their knees should expect to be treated in certain ways by others. It is human nature to judge and make assessments about each other based on the ways we choose to present ourselves to the world. Present yourself to the world as a sex object and (even though it might not be "right") that is how you will likely be treated. The key here is "choice." We all have a choice how we present ourselves and must face the consequences of those choices. By acknowledging that reality, I am in no way at all suggesting rape is acceptable -- no matter what a woman is wearing. And rapes - particularly stranger rapes - just as frequently happen to women dressed more modestly. Rape is not about sex, it is about violence and power. But that does not mean a woman should dress like a "slut" and think she should be treated with utmost respect. What you wear does say a lot about who you are and your priorities -- whether you mean it to or not.
But I would like to reiterate, the only person guilty in a rape is the rapist -- but that does not mean women have no choice but to simply be helpless victims who have no control over their own destinies. If you ask me, NOT dressing like a slut is as much of an empowering choice as those in this article think dressing like a slut is.
Dressing like a slut does not cause rape and that is just @!$%#ing stupid. In fact, nothing a female does can prevent a real rape. Real rape is about sex, power, control. Dressing like a slut is simply dressing like a slut. A rapist could care less if you have a mini skirt or a long dress or jeans. (And I don't mean she got drunk and naked, then he raped her)
Secondly, I do think women can do better. By all means ladies, be sexy. It feels good to be sexy, it feels nice to feel sexy. It is not okay to just want to be sexy to tease and it is not ok to act sexy without any dignity. There's no diginity to the title 'slut'. I may sound old fashioned, but I take pride in being a lady.
Beginning to wonder whether I understand all this slut stuff. To me it has been about getting rid of the double standard of guys doing it, they are studs, gals do it, they are sluts. That is certainly the way our society seems to take it. That being said, is it no wonder that so many marriages are doomed to fail. Sex is fine for the guys, just sow your oats as far and wide as you can, then when you get married, your stuck with just one. Thus, is it any wonder guys continue to stray after marriage. For the gals, sex is a no-no and dirty and don't do it until you get married. After all the years being told not to do it, is it any wonder that they are a little to a lot frigid during the marriage. It seems that both sexes are expected to turn on a dime once married. Just an observation.
Saddened - it was the same response that witchrunner gave. A female. Ask your own gender why they say standard male response. Oh and witchrunner, how can men sow their wild oats as you put it without the women complying? are you saying all women are being raped?
This is a terrible and misguided attempt to address a serious social issue. Slut walks began because of the patronizing culture of "blame the victim" in sexual assault cases. Parading around and calling ourselves sluts completely fails to address this issue. Also, trying to lessen the derogatory meaning of "slut" will not make it any more acceptable in society or any less hurtful when hurled upon a woman or young girl. We as intelligent, socially responsible, and empowered women need to teach ourselves and those around us to treat all women with respect and common courtesy.

I agree with you. I am not sure why "slut" has become a power word these days. I am a nontraditional student at Oregon State, and I sometimes see the younger women with "slut" shirts or some other derogatory term/phrase.
It's kinda of like "@!$%#," the word has become a common form of address among many African Americans.
What on Earth is a "nontraditional student"? Do you not do what students traditionally do, like study? Do you go to classes in a clown costume? Do you insist upon speaking Turkish in English classes?
I am being satirical but my question is serious. :)
The young set of women will "endearingly" call each other "ho" and the like - would have been abhorrent in my day - now they are joking around. (This is high school and college ages.)
So they want to redefine the meaning of the word "Slut"? Okay, let's try the "mom" test.................go home tonight and call your mother a "slut".....lets see how well its received by mom~.......
Are they gonna have a c-u-n-t walk as well? Sorry, but there has to be a better way to address the issue. No woman deserves to be sexually assaulted regardless of how they act or what they are wearing. However, women shouldn't get mad if some youngin comes up and says "gurl you got some tig ol bitties and an ahat pass" or if they just mindless stare, drool, and gawk over your stuff.
I wouldnt get mad at the 'youngin', I would get mad at the parents for not parenting a 'youngin' to walk up to women, or ANYONE, and treat them with the same respect and courtesy they would like to be treated. No one wants or needs someone to walk up to them and give their opinions about anything.
I'm with you Jason the more sluts there are the better! Sluts are easy and sluts are fun. Sluts can make you feel good at lunch time but are best enjoyed after a few shots of whiskey! Guys don't forget the first rule of SlutSex....use a condom.
But Lucy1, havent you read? Sluts want to be able to walk around looking like sluts, acting like sluts, but want respect while doing it. So basically they want anything and everything they want and to hell with everyone else. So why should the Men of this generation treat them any other way but sluts? Plenty of them to go around it seems, so why not use them for what they are? Sluts!! Just a place a guy can make a deposit for as little cash as he can. Kinda like a human toilet. Guys, dont forget to flush.
i always said if i was a girl, i would be a slut. imagine the power of being able to have sex anytime, anywhere, with anyone (almost) you want. it's a woman's world, we just live in it! seriously, ladies, or sluts, we love you "just the way you are", and no matter what you call yourselves, "you're always a woman to me"...did i just quote two billy joel songs in the same post? the guy got "slutty" with christie brinkley, so he must know something.
Things are different these days--if a guy wants to get laid, he needs to approach the girl and get her to go with him, not the other way round. And naturally those who don't get laid think of something nasty to say.
what has changed, you still need permission from the ladies for sex. As for the knuckleheads making nasty remarks while not getting laid? They wanted to be cool trying to impress the other guys on the vine, instead they should be saying kind words toward the ladies.
I meant that there was a time when girls frequently went after guys, and all that the guys had to do was not resist. Anyways, that's irrelevant to what we're discussing here.
It was a judge, not a cop, who made the idiot remark.
Not that it matters a whole helluva' lot except shoddy writing be it features or news, it one of the more obvious signs of the dummying-down of America.
Not one word that Leftist show host Ed Schultz was suspended today for his unwholesome rant against radio star Laura Ingraham. Strange, it took Comcast to clear out trash at MSNBC. Something the former Socialist owners, NBC wouldn't do.
The 'word' about Ed Schultz suggesting he be given unpaid leave is everywhere. If you think GE, one of the biggest defense contractors and the former owners of MSNBC and NBC, are socialist then I've got a shipment of sailboat fuel to sell you along with my oceanfront slip in Arizona.
I won't argue that Beck portrays a passionate individual, and he constantly says things much worse than Schultz did. I have yet to hear Beck apologize for anything he has said. He has made a very few backhanded attempts to justify some particularly outlandish claims, but that doesn't approach an apology. To compare Schultz to Beck is apples and watermelons!
I doubt that Beck would publicly challenge Maddow, because he knows she would destroy him. Not even in the same league. Maddow is pretty intelligent.
To say Beck is down to earth would be a stretch. More like he's on another planet! I watch him all the time for his idiotic, but entertaining diatribe. Have you watched him lately literally accusing the President of treason and conspiracy to destroy the government? He's passionate alright, but so was Jarred Loughner, Adolf Hitler, most serial killers and lots of other lunatics. Lots of people are passionate. but not very well grounded.
Beck's latest is to sell his charter trip to Isreal. What a joke! I've watched him of late trying to claim Obama betrayed Netanyahu repeatedly quoting Obama and cutting off the second half of his sentence about negotiated borders. Netanyahu speech had precisely the exact same meaning albiet from a different stance. But Beck has them in complete opposition.
I'll bet you really like it when the dropout "professor" does his little "community college" routine! Makes you feel like you're in school learning something.
Schultz is a political pundit, like his politics or not, but Beck is a babbling lunatic who is all over the map. The only thing he's consistent on is who the evil cabal is. Unions, Soros, Obama, Frances Fox Piven and of course the Muslim Brotherhood.
Schultz may spin things, but 95% of what Beck says is outright lies and distortions. "But don't take my word for it, do your own research. Go to Beck.com" The man is insane.
Admittedly, Schultz got revved up and made an innappropriate comment, but showed great humility and courage with his heartfelt and seemingly honest apology, a very liberal thing I might add. But given the issue he was addressing, namely hypocrisy in the right-wing media, he should have used a word rhyming with bore. Ingraham's attack on the president would not have occurred if a conservative were in the white house, which is evidence that the issue is less important than the audience she is pandering to. She gets paid big bucks to bash the liberals for issues that she would give conservatives a pass on. In my book, this makes her nothing more than a prostitute. And please don't interpret this in a sexist way. Men dominate conservative media brothels and the same word applies to them as far as I'm concerned.
I think Ed was right - remember that the so-call-doctor said the 'n-word' to a black caller 11 times last year, kinda apologized then said that she felt her first amendment rights had been violated because she had to apologize. At least Ed had the balls to get on TV and say sorry, and he doesn't pretend to be a psychiatrist like she does.
Kudos to Dr. Laura for accepting it at least - I wasn't sure if she would.
Ya things are much better now that Comcast has a huge monopoly on all things news related. Now we can look forward to all news being Fox News Right wing garbage. The kind of news where Glenn Beck calls people evil Left wing socialists and doesnt have to apologize. Pretty soon we can all be under the veil of ignorance where even the news only reports the Republican agenda.
I beg to differ. Do any of you watch the sluts on Fox.? I'm using the word to describe the over the edge content there. Put any of their names in front of the slut word and it describe bad taste in everything, exaggerations and distortions.
Quit getting so sensitive America. We went from banning books to banning words. Neither one is a good thing. I refuse to stop using any of the newly banned words, you know, Gay, Fag, whore, slut any of them except the "N" word. Although just saying the "N" word implies the word itself and so you really might as well say it instead of N word. If someone is a slut then they are a slut. If someone is acting retarded, then say "You are retarded". Does everyone really have to talk like a politician all the time.
Also, do all these people really have nothing better to do than protest a word or "redefine" it. How bout protesting something important like Wall Street thieving, the war, or the NFL and its players greed. People really need to get a life or real problems.
I think when a rotten society gets to the point where people are committing suicides because of harassment and name-calling, you know that it has gone really low.
Face it. America has a culture of hate and bullying. The economy is not the only thing that this country must preserve. It has to preserve its morals and basic respect for ALL human beings.
Whether or not this slut walks will make the world a better place is unclear. I can sympathize with their cause, though. Anti-bullying has called for teaching respect and civility. Unfortunately, it's not working. A**holes will be a**holes. If you can't tame these many animals, then obviously you'll have to try another method.... de-stigmatize the word "slut."
The Slut Walks themselves are a step in the right (general) direction, but yeah, people are way too sensitive these days. Unfortunately some words, such as the N-word, will never be reclaimed because it's intended as a racist insult. "Slut", on the other hand, was assigned values by society. If you look at the word's definition, there's nothing particularly insulting or offensive about it.
Unless the word is directed at you. Unless your reputation, personal or professional, could be undermined by any number of pithy euphamisms in the wrong ears.
Which is why they're trying to redefine it. It's also why societal attitudes need to be changed. Seriously, why is it okay to be a "stud" but not a "slut", when they're essentially the same thing?
It isn't okay. But the reason society allows for a man to be a stud or a playboy is because we value strength and power. A man that seduces many women is both. In the thesaurus, one of the synonyms for 'power' is 'male'.
And women aren't supposed to be strong in the eyes of many in our society. And if we are strong and/or powerful that's when the misogynists feel emmasculated and the name-calling starts.
Anyway...the definition of 'slut' is "an immoral woman, impure; a slovenly, dirty woman; prostitute; a woman of loose character, bold, hussy". None of which I would apply to just women. And how many men do I get to sleep with before I'm considered a slut? More than one? The NY Knicks? Just curious. Or...how about, it's no one's business but my own.
I think it depends more on age whether this word is derogatory with women. Men generally direct words "bitch and slut" toward women with derogatory intent. I support the women's definition as explained in the article, and in fact, find their proposition quite sensible.
It is a lot about how a word is used in context. I've actually heard this used as a compliment amongst female friends who were commenting on how hot one looked. It is probably most often used a slam in a derogatory sense, but the word itself, is just a word.
Schultz definitely used it a a derogatory term, but not in the typical sexual connotation. I'm not entirely sure what a "talk slut" is, but I have some ideas that fit Ms. Igraham, pretty accurately. She will say all sorts of outlandish things to get attention. She does come off as a "media whore" who will say whatever is necessary to achieve her goals. I've heard the term "Fox News sluts" referring to the women commentators on Fox news. (Google it) Doesn't make it right, but he was reaching for a derogatory word and just chose that one.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will get you FIRED!!! That's why I use the ever trusty finger. Seriously though, I'm glad to see a women led movement of any kind. There needs to be a lot more of them.
Well if we are gonna be run over by hoardes of sluts, I'm gonna buy some viagra and have one Great Summer! I'll do my best to get as many of these terrible people off the streets. Schultz get a life. msnbc you actually paid someone to do the research, and write this article. Under your health a family living section? Idiots. There's far worse things we are facing in this country. Start printing the truth to the American people. Instead of your biased onesided view.
negative labeling has always been about trying to lower the targets position in society, suggesting the person is less than those groups or people who have a need to feel superior to others. The word "slut" is used has a derogatory comment is used just to control others. What people choose to wear in public is their perspective as long as they wear something. Guys run around without shirts all the time, school cheerleaders wear revealing clothing, women on the beach barely wear anything at all. While you can't really blame men or gray people from looking that does not in any way give license or the right to injury those women in any way. The free will of every person should be respected including the way they choose to dress. Really do we all have to dress in white work shirts and black dress pants like some of the Mormons.l
Thank you NOW and other idiot groups for making sluts and baby killers normal.
Beside the fact that most of the sluts in the sluts walk photo look like dykes, it just confirms how degrading humans have become (both male and female and the "whatevers" of the world).
I'm sure that soon we will be having the "sex with animals walk" coming to city near you.
As for the "baby killer generation", do you ever take the time to think that over 73,000,000 unviable tissue, which, has been eliminated since Roe v Wade? Of course I don't believe that it is unviable tissue, but even in your feeble, selfish minds, they would have become humans. Or is it puppies? Of course you would NEVER think of ending a puppie's life, that would be cruel!
Enough for now. I just can't wait for the " I have a right to have sex with an elephant" tour.
What's your angle besides nothing but hate for what you disagree with? Sorry if freedom of speech and peaceable assemblies bother you so much. Silly me. It was just a stepping stone to get to your real platform of anti abortion, correct? That was one hell of a deflection, wasn't it? High five!
Tell ya what. When we can find homes for the hundreds of thousands of unwanted children in our foster care system, you can champion that we start all over again, OK?
Wow Jon, all that whining just so you can have sex with an elephant? Somehow, I just don't see the "moral majority (or minority or whatever it may be)" following your lead on this. Something tells me you need more visual aids for a bit clearer understanding, but I doubt that happens.
Besides, a person like you is the reason we have this generation of baby-killers. Daughters of people like you couldn't possibly give birth to the mistake that would taint the families name.
Baby-killers?! You aren't even talking about infanticide, which is what baby-killing is defined as. If they're not born, they're not alive. You can't kill something that isn't alive.
What a fuss over a word. Granted, I wouldn't like it if anyone called me a slut, but it's not unusual for the meaning of a word to change over time. Wait 25 or 50 years, and the word may well mean "an exceptionally confident and well-adjusted woman."
Maybe this will sound weird to y'all, but to me this is just like black folks taking up the N word and trying to make it a good thing... it just won't happen.
Come on ladies, we can be better than this!
Could you post this a few more times, I didn't quite get it the first three.
I prefer to be called the "B" word. I guess I'm just old-fashioned.
Ru--
I'm not sure you actually read my comment.
THANK you JL.
"Summer of sluts" ??
Huh, the Liberals have continued to bash anyone and everyone for over 2 1/2 years and now MSNBC is reporting this UNPROFESSIONAL jab by Schultz as something NEW ?
Good grief, on to the next news article about Mr. and Mrs. Obama's EU tour, or how taxpayers are paying for a Jello fight, or maybe about taxpayers paying for the shrimp using the tread mill.
Typical MSNBC reporting things to further divide our country while we are drowning in debt.
BTW, don't just "suspend" Schultz......FIRE HIM !
As if kids in school can't invent new terms to attack and ostracize with.
This just gives attention whores something to parade about.
Maybe we can have a parade and reappropriate "whore".
Go for it.
Insanescience
You are not appropriating ANYTHING. You are only displaying your ignorance.
Barry-Moore: It might be a good idea if you read an entire post and make sure you understand it before you comment on it. You'll sound a lot more intelligent that way. But, thanks for admitting that men are pigs! Well, excuse me pigs, I didn't mean to insult you. I'd spell it all out for you, but will give you a second chance to figure it out for yourself.
good grief (sigh)
standard female response. You are not even worth discussing this with, im outta here.
Stumped already?
Witchrunner is right. I've been to quite a few nude beaches and it's amazing how you don't even notice the lack of clothing after a couple of minutes!
Come on ladies, we can be better than this!

ADD??? ... Or you thought so much of yourself, you felt a need to post it three times? LOL
Please pour one for me if you're going to be having another. ; )
Typically a student who is not right out of high school and older than the "normal" college student.
Actually, I do not do what most college students traditionally do around here, which is smoke weed and get drunk several days a week. :)
lol, guess you explained yourself. lol
The young set of women will "endearingly" call each other "ho" and the like - would have been abhorrent in my day - now they are joking around. (This is high school and college ages.)
just curious, would it be rude if I try and pick up a slut during the march???
Thanks for defining "non-traditional student" Republic! :)
So they want to redefine the meaning of the word "Slut"? Okay, let's try the "mom" test.................go home tonight and call your mother a "slut".....lets see how well its received by mom~.......
Different generation. Go tell your great great grandmother your gay and she'll think your happy. :)
Hey, "c-u-n-t" walks, now you're on to something.
I wouldnt get mad at the 'youngin', I would get mad at the parents for not parenting a 'youngin' to walk up to women, or ANYONE, and treat them with the same respect and courtesy they would like to be treated. No one wants or needs someone to walk up to them and give their opinions about anything.
I like the idea of taking back the ugly words used by social conservatives to disparage those who don't heed their antiquated and ignorant beliefs.
That c- word should be outlawed. Nastiest word ever.
I agree, Cap'n.
Bring on the sluts then! I'm all for girls who want to have plenty of sex!
You may be disappointed.
I believe a real slut demands that you pay cash for the sex.
JC-Those are called whores.
I'm with you Jason the more sluts there are the better! Sluts are easy and sluts are fun. Sluts can make you feel good at lunch time but are best enjoyed after a few shots of whiskey! Guys don't forget the first rule of SlutSex....use a condom.
More power to the SLUTS!
Ah yes, the respect and class of the next generation.
I would rather they all dress like LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD.
Ed Schultz is a male slut, so I guess I'm off newsvine for a week with out pay.....
More like Ed "Schlutz"! har dee har har!
One might readily agree that looking like one is a helluva lot different than acting like one. Big difference.
Readily agreed.
It was a judge, not a cop, who made the idiot remark.
Not that it matters a whole helluva' lot except shoddy writing be it features or news, it one of the more obvious signs of the dummying-down of America.
You mean the news media got it wrong? No way.
It was Toronto police constable Michael Sanguinetti who made the comment. A constable is a police officer.
Schultz went to his bosses and volunteered his own suspension before they even approached him on the topic.
Schultz is a passionate, down to earth guy who got a bit carried away in a heated moment. Listen to his apology before you throw him under the bus.
We love you ED! Cant wait until your week is up, I miss you already.
Then I guess Beck is too 1NewDay.
Would you say Beck just got carried away if he had said something like that about Maddows?
Because that's in it's own full article, dumbass wh0r3.
Pretty soon we can all be under the veil of ignorance where even the news only reports the Republican agenda.
eXm,
Two different Lauras. Ingraham is the "slut", Dr. Schlessinger is the "racist".
If someone called me a fag to my face, I'd beat their ass, redefining be damned.
Please, there is nothing wrong with the word fag.
Lmao, and your wife's pregnant in the kitchen baking, right?
Well if we are gonna be run over by hoardes of sluts, I'm gonna buy some viagra and have one Great Summer! I'll do my best to get as many of these terrible people off the streets. Schultz get a life. msnbc you actually paid someone to do the research, and write this article. Under your health a family living section? Idiots. There's far worse things we are facing in this country. Start printing the truth to the American people. Instead of your biased onesided view.
If you knew how to read, you'd notice that this story presented several views of the slut walks.
negative labeling has always been about trying to lower the targets position in society, suggesting the person is less than those groups or people who have a need to feel superior to others.
"Some of the Mormons"? Have you ever been to Utah? You're out of your fuh king mind. Mormons are the same as any other religion...
.
Oh, how wonderful!
Jon,....we human walk upright. How about join us and stop walking with your knuckles.
"Jane, you ignorant slut!"
And still if you called one of these creatures a "slut", you'd probably be sued as soon as they possibly could.
What a fuss over a word. Granted, I wouldn't like it if anyone called me a slut, but it's not unusual for the meaning of a word to change over time. Wait 25 or 50 years, and the word may well mean "an exceptionally confident and well-adjusted woman."
Sometimes broads love whor-ing
Bring Ed back, there are women who have no problem being called a slut, after all it is what it is, let a slut be a slut. We want Ed, We want Ed!
Plus he was right. Breitbart deserves the right-wing slut label too.
What?? summer of sluts?? just when I thought the world was going to hell, a little bit of hope!
Ha'ha' lol
I wonder if these sluts are coming to my town.
Maybe this will sound weird to y'all, but to me this is just like black folks taking up the N word and trying to make it a good thing... it just won't happen.
Agreed. Neither word has any place in mature and intelligent thought or conversation.
As my grandmother said, you reap what you sow.
Personally, I love sluts. If there were a march, the sign I carry would say just that.
It may have been wrong to call her a " Slut" but she is a liar, and an A..hole.
Can't call a conservative a slut whats this world coming to
i know right ?
they called bill clinton a slut.
big deal right ?
