Just because it's a dare doesn't make it an accident - and it also doesn't mean it isn't a crime.
I guess they are just being lenient because it was a pellet gun - and they both apparently assumed (incorrectly!) that it didn't have enough power to cause harm.

Seriously, being older than 18 doesn't make someone a man. I'm embarrassed to know this but it wasn't even the same stunt that Johnny Knoxville had completed. Johnny was shot with a bean bag projectile this kid was shot with a bb or pellet. I need to find new friends that don't watch such childish things it's a shame I'm too old to make new friends.
